A valuable asset for organizations seeking to modernize their financial management, improve efficiency, and gain better insights into their financial data
Pros and Cons
  • "Its custom reports feature is also noteworthy, as it provides flexibility for users to create their reports, tailored to their specific areas of expertise."
  • "While we can create, post, and manage general entries, we face a limitation in allocating multiple JL accounts."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for a wide array of accounting functions, encompassing accounts payable and receivable, general accounting tasks, fixed asset management, banking interactions, and reconciliation, as well as the generation of standard and customized financial reports. Our company handles the recording of transactions, particularly focusing on purchase-related transactions like RCTIs, and we perform recurring journal entries for month-end closings. Due to our intercompany system, we don't engage in traditional AR and AP; instead, we initiate ARAP and make use of the built-back approach. We have configured the built-in feature, which seamlessly facilitates our intercompany financial transactions within the Sage Intacct platform.

How has it helped my organization?

This is a multi-entity system with a hierarchical structure that allows us to have a comprehensive view of all our ARAP transactions within a single tool. We can access and analyze data at different entity levels as needed, and it's incredibly convenient. We can seamlessly drill down into the data from this unified interface.

What is most valuable?

One of the standout features is the ability to access all reports from a central location, eliminating the need to switch between entities. We can effortlessly view trial balances, pending reports, and more, regardless of the specific location or entity we're working with. Its custom reports feature is also noteworthy, as it provides flexibility for users to create their reports, tailored to their specific areas of expertise. For example, in accounts payable, we can extract purchase invoice details and item-level data, track credit applications for individual invoices, and generate custom reports to integrate into our toolkit.

What needs improvement?

The only challenge we've encountered is in role setup. While we can create, post, and manage general entries, we face a limitation in allocating multiple JL accounts.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It provides exceptional stability capabilities. I would rate it nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is potential for improvement in terms of scalability. I would rate it seven out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

It provides excellent support services.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

Setting it up isn't overly simple, but not really complex. I would rate it around eight out of ten.

What about the implementation team?

The transition process took just under three to four months. This involved migrating supplier previous balances and setting up suppliers and customers in the new system with multiple entities, along with handling fixed assets and other essential data transfers. During this transition, we collaborated with a third-party consultant who played a significant role, as we primarily sourced subscriptions through this third-party company, which also provided valuable support throughout the process.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment is 75 percent.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of subscriptions, the pricing structure works well for multi-level entities. It's reasonably priced, offering fixed pricing, which is quite fair. I would rate six out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

It's a good fit for us, especially as we operate within a multi-entity franchise system and the customization options are excellent, allowing us to add screens and tailor the software to our specific needs. From an accounting perspective, it's a top-notch product, offering comprehensive end-to-end automation. The banking features are particularly impressive, making back-office tasks much more time-efficient. The flexibility and customization options are a big plus, and the use of templates further streamlines processes. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

Great cloud connectivity and perfect for early stage startups, but not ideal for manufacturing powerhouses
Pros and Cons
  • "It's a top-tier upgrade for the finance department and does extend into full ERP."
  • "We have had some pharma manufacturers use Intacct at a very early stage and move to other ERP packages to maintain manufacturing controls and documentation needed for FDA-regulated entities."

What is our primary use case?

We have services groups, smaller healthcare clinics, data providers, warehousing and distribution, home goods internet retailers, and other clients that are using Intacct

The implementation team is critical - as always - so we make sure we maintain a close relationship with top Intacct channel partners.

One of the tougher assignments was a franchise restaurant with 40 locations throughout the US/Canada/Caribbean. POS (point of sale) and credit card processing went through a system maintained by the franchisor and reporting back to the individual stores took a couple of days to reconcile, as it was combining 40 different store-level reports (which was a pain).

Intacct's cloud-based connectivity worked best to replicate the data flows so both the corporate franchisor got their data and the franchisee had overnight reporting broken down by hourly totals. It was an integration we would not have wanted to tackle on a more proprietary system.

How has it helped my organization?

It's a top-tier upgrade for the finance department and does extend into full ERP. Its focus is on becoming the best available accounting/finance solution, and they have the awards from major CPA organizations to prove it.

You won't see Sage repeating what you're reading here in their marketing materials. It's more of our assessment of how we use Intacct in the places we've seen it best fits - which is a good way of saying 'your mileage may vary'. In any case, modern, made-for-cloud software is always a huge upgrade over programming created in the pre-internet era.

What is most valuable?

We've really been able to use the attributes function to keep a clean chart of accounts and report/record various business options and opportunities.

Of course, the integration we discussed elsewhere is a major advantage. One of the things is that Sage is only sold through channel partners. They used to use the term VAR. Sage is one of the best at managing a channel. (We're not going to talk about the Microsoft Dynamics channel here). However, historically, even with the very best channel management, there are very good partners and some who may one day become very good partners. We have done a couple of rescues of perfectly good Intacct projects gone bad. Once we brought in the top partners, it was very quick to turn things around.

What needs improvement?

We're not a good source for what's missing in any particular ERP product, as we are focused on selection and implementation consulting.

If there were a weakness in a particular software offering involving a key business requirement, we'd shift our recommendations to another option. For our clients, where Intacct fits, it fits well. We've not seen significant issues. Every client we have is very satisfied with the product.

We have had some pharma manufacturers use Intacct at a very early stage and move to other ERP packages to maintain manufacturing controls and documentation needed for FDA regulated entities, however, we were not involved in the initial selection of Intacct with those clients. That said, we can say it serves very well in early-stage IPO startup companies - just not in a manufacturing powerhouse.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have a dozen or so clients using Intacct.

It's one of the big three created-for-cloud options (NetSuite/Intacct/Acumatica), and, while there are a few new cloud options, most of the cloud ERP offerings are simply an online version of the ancient 1980s codebase ported to the cloud.

However, Intacct implements quickly and operates with modern features. The concept of Intacct is to be the very best accounting package with ease of integration to any operational software - which has some advantages in situations where you can keep your best-of-breed solution for operations and take advantage of numerous APIs to trade the data that needs to pass back and forth.

Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer. We're the advisory consulting service that recommends Intacct where applicable - we're not a reseller or directly associated with Sage in any way other than maintaining contacts to insure our clients get the best possible, qualified teams and support.

A stable and easy-to-use product that provides interactive and flexible reporting features
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is easy to use."
  • "The inventory module is quite tricky to use."

What is our primary use case?

It is an accounting software used for accounting purposes but has many more features. We can use the solution for reporting. There are standard and custom reports. The tool also provides interactive reports. The dashboard shows our key performance indicators.

What is most valuable?

Reporting is very flexible. We can choose how we report. We can create channels when we do bank reconciliation with the product. We can set up the tool to detect when certain descriptions come up and create a channel automatically. It is a very good feature.

I also liked the business form templates. The product is easy to use. It's very simple to go into each journal with a few clicks and record it. When paying the supplier with the Accounts Payable module, we can link our bank fees to it. We just need to upload it.

The fact that we can import stuff is very interesting. We do not have to go line to line when recording transactions. We can just put them on an Excel sheet, sort it out, and import it into the system.

What needs improvement?

The inventory module is quite tricky to use. I faced some issues with it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the product’s scalability an eight and a half out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The support team took a long time to resolve the issue I raised. I left my organization before they could resolve the issue.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not at all difficult. It is a really nice software. It makes you want to use it more. The solution is deployed on the cloud. The time taken for deployment depends on the project. It ranges from four months to six months. It depends on how big the company is. We had a client that had many entities under it. It was quite a challenge to configure. It took time.

What other advice do I have?

I have experience in implementing and providing support for the product. It is a very good software. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Covers a vast range of capabilities and has good integration between the different components of products
Pros and Cons
  • "We also use some of the other Sage solutions and for the most part, everything was integrated in the manner that I found beneficial."
  • "In the next release, I would like to see greater integration with the RPA software that's been created."

What is our primary use case?

We use it as backups for accounting software, for salary schedules, and to determine EMP that we pay over to individuals. From the accounting side, it helps to determine VAT calculations and income tax. That was the main competencies that were required from that side.

What is most valuable?

We also use some of the other Sage solutions and for the most part, everything was integrated in the manner that I found beneficial. The accounting sector we had from 2012 to 2017, all of them were functional and work together. Also from the cloud perspective, everything was functional from that side. The integration between the different components was something that I was also impressed with from that side.

What needs improvement?

The mobile integration was still lacking on that front. Now, most of those components have been integrated, so that's one thing that has already been implemented that I've seen that made a big difference.

Furthermore, there are not too many specific things that I can think of that I would require changes for us, because we're also in talks for certain additional features and integrating human performance elements into the systems that we use. Everything seems to be running smoothly at the moment. There's nothing specific that I feel needs to be addressed.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There were only a few times where we experienced glitches, but for the most part, it was infrequent enough that it wasn't an issue with the work environment. In our setup, everything was very time reliant. The processes needed to be completed by a certain date in order for us to be in compliance with the systems that were in place. There was no specific case that I can remember where the system, itself, had too many bugs that it did not allow us to do our jobs. There was nothing detrimental from that aspect.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We work with a lot of SMEs, so I'm not sure if our scalability it is, in terms of the thousands of employees and organization, but from my experience, the scalability was a stretch in magnitude that I felt that it was always that's not a problem.

From my experience it was scalable and it was satisfactory.

How are customer service and technical support?

We contacted technical support very infrequently. There was only one time that we had to contact technical support. That was because there was a payment issue. We made the payment but it was allocated to the wrong location. That was more of an accounting error that occurred instead of a technical issue. Even though we needed to contact technical, it wasn't a technical issue.

That was the only time I certainly had to contact the technical perspective. They didn't really need to contact technical. They were good. We got in contact with them. They were very proficient, so we didn't have any problems in that regard.

How was the initial setup?

The most difficult component was not the setup, but the training associated with the product. That took more time then the setup, from a technical perspective. It was not exorbitant, it was done within a reasonable amount of time. I didn't feel that it was too difficult to get up and running.

What about the implementation team?

At my previous firm, we were an accounting firm, the people were involved with the software for extremely long periods of time. We had people with technical proficiency that could train us. For the most part, because a lot of our clients were fairly new to assist them with some of the components and they had trouble getting up to speed. They didn't know what to do, so we initially had consultants that got us up and running.

What other advice do I have?

I would strongly recommend any entity that has a need for software that is easily implementable and that's already structured to use the services. It covers a vast range of capabilities and it is something that's implementable in an organization without too much of a technical price because they offer the services that assist them.

It's something that should be implemented for an organization. There are not too many negatives that I personally saw within implementations. I don't really have anything bad to say.

In the next release, I would like to see greater integration with the RPA software that's been created. I think that's something that can be quite interesting because it will also enable organizations to make bigger changes in certain circles. That can be interesting, but that's something for the future to consider.

I was quite happy, personally, with the software that we used. I never encountered any problems that I saw as detrimental, so I'd rate it a nine out of ten because I am personally satisfied with it.

Hybrid Cloud
