PowerEdge C Room for Improvement

Al Vasek - PeerSpot reviewer

With reference architectures like VX rack, the update process is quite painful. They could automate or simplify it more. There are prerequisites to go through, and that's usually the only time-consuming pain we encounter.

Cost is an important factor needing improvement. The pricing of PowerEdge solutions is very high nowadays.

Additionally, technical support requires improvement as there can be delays and challenges when support personnel are required to resolve issues on-site.

One area for improvement is the customer support process. The specialization in support, while effective, can lead to delays and complexity in getting issues resolved. It would be beneficial if the support process were more streamlined.

The need to update the firmware and check if there is any bug in the product is one of the areas where Dell PowerEdge C falls short and needs to make improvements.

Nowadays, the product has started to become a bit expensive in the market, at a time when Nutanix offers virtualization software, which is even cheaper when compared to VMware. In order to penetrate into the market, the pricing of servers like PowerEdge C and other HCI solutions should be lower. Price-wise, I would want to see the product offer more flexibility. The hypervisor offered by ESXi is not compatible with different types of hypervisors. In the case of Nutanix AHV, the hypervisor is compatible with the other types of hypervisors. The aforementioned aspects need to be considered for improvement in the product to achieve high scalability.

There is some trouble with the stability part of the product, making it an area where improvements are required.

As far as I'm concerned, the current product works perfectly fine and I don't see any issues with it. The newer products may have additional features, but for my current needs, the current product is more than sufficient and I don't think it requires any enhancements.

An area where the product lacks and needs to consider improvement is by allowing it to integrate with some AI tool for monitoring.

In the future, I would like AI integration and iDRAC to improve.

It would be better if it worked with SMTP servers on the cloud. Right now, it only allows notifications via the SMTP server. In the next release, I would like to have a better processor.

CMC needs different storage in the blade server, like a three-tier architecture. It would be better if the solution provided simplified storage and hardware with an integrated one-tier architecture.

I can't think of anything that needs to be improved at the moment. A lot of evolution is occurring with Blade PowerEdge, including, what call, the blade servers. The VxRail should be opened to allow other virtualization platforms to be used.

I don't see the possibility of mixing LFF drives with SFF drives in a particular machine. The PowerEdge C series is a racked server good for enterprise data-centers or even cloud services. We deployed four PowerEdge C6100 when we needed to reduce the power consumption and the amount of heat generated in our data-center. In the long run, we discovered that we have succeeded in reducing the space occupied by our old PowerEdge 2900. We also noticed improved performance and simplified maintenance. View full review »
