What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have found the scalability to be acceptable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward and simple. The installation took about an hour.

What about the implementation team?

I did the installation in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing could be lower. The actual device itself is included in the license, so the fact that you have to license virtual machines on it is the price point that could be lower.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Citrix ADM an eight on a scale of one to ten.

Is easy to use and manage but needs to integrate better with third party applications
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the ease of use. It's easy to manage. I also like it's ease of use with virtualization technologies with applications."
  • "Integration with other third party providers and third party applications could be better because it can be a bit complex at present."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for our clients' the desktops for their virtual machines.

What is most valuable?

I like the ease of use. It's easy to manage. I also like it's ease of use with virtualization technologies with applications.

What needs improvement?

Integration with other third party providers and third party applications could be better because it can be a bit complex at present.

Screen resolution needs improvement as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using it for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been helpful.

How was the initial setup?

Citrix ADC is quite easy to set up, and the deployment took us about four to five days. However, if all factors are available it should take a couple of hours.

What other advice do I have?

I would suggest that you use Citrix ADC, but you may need to watch out a bit for possible latency issues when you use some of their virtualization solutions. However, it's still good, compared to some other products.

I would rate Citrix ADC at seven on a scale from one to ten.

Effective firewall, highly scalable, and useful load balancing
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of Citrix ADC are load balancing and application firewall."
  • "Overall the price of Citrix ADC could be more competitive."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Citrix ADC for SSL offloads and security, secure remote access, loads balancing, and application firewall, web application firewall.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of Citrix ADC are load balancing and application firewall.

What needs improvement?

Overall the price of Citrix ADC could be more competitive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix ADC for approximately 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Citrix ADC is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Citrix ADC is highly scalable. You can upgrade it and put increase the bandwidth or add more security features. You can start from the basic standard version, up to the Platinum version.

How was the initial setup?

Citrix ADC's initial setup was simple. The full process took approximately a half-day.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation of Citrix ADC in-house because we have the Citrix consultancy services for our customers. They utilize our services on-premise, and in-house. However, typically, the end-user customers, for private/public cloud,  have to have some deep technical knowledge. It's not for every IT person to implement. That's why the consulting team is needed to implement these kinds of solutions because they're very sensitive and high critical position in terms of application firewall, et cetera.

We have one person who handles the support of our Citrix ADC. For our customers, we use one person for their support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Citrix ADC could improve the price and make it less expensive, other competitors have a better prices. This would allow Citrix ADC to keep dominating the market.

What other advice do I have?

It is a very good solution.

I rate Citrix ADC a nine out of ten.

Seamless virtual desktop integration, but not suitable for largescale enterprises or complicated uses
Pros and Cons
  • "The feature that I have found most valuable is its load balancing."
  • "In terms of what could be improved, I would say the user interface because sometimes it can be complicated."

What is our primary use case?

We are only using it for load balancing and application firewalls.

What is most valuable?

The feature that I have found most valuable is its load balancing.

Citrix ADC is actually not the most preferable product from our perspective but for the virtual desktop use it is very efficient. It's very integrated with the virtual desktop. It has a seamless integration and that is the most valuable part.

Since it has a significant integration with its virtualization, that has improved the usability access of the virtual desktops.

What needs improvement?

In terms of what could be improved, I would say the user interface because sometimes it can be complicated.

In the next release, I would like to see advanced language support for managing the traffic, rather than only the RegEx. That would be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix ADC for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of stability, it is not as good as F5.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is not as scalable as F5.

There are three people using it, and they're all engineers.

It takes one staff member for the deployment and maintenance - also an engineer.

We have a static user base in our organization, but for our customer base its use is going to be expanded.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is not bad.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are using most of the solutions together, so there is no switching between the products. We are currently using F5, too, and we always prefer that first. But it depends on the deployment and it depends on the needs. For deployments we choose Citrix.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It took two hours.

Our strategy is just deploy and use it. It's a simple process for us.

What about the implementation team?

We are the integrators.

What other advice do I have?

If they are going to use it with the VDI, it is a very good product, but it has weaknesses in application firewall development. So if they are going to only do load balancing in an SMB solution, it is a good product. But if they're consulting as an enterprise product and in a very large scale deployment enterprise, Citrix is not a complete solution. But for an SMB product and a basic cloud balance, it is a good product.

On a scale of one to ten, I would give Citrix ADC a seven. It does what it does. It is a product for some simple tasks, but just not suitable for the complex tasks.

Excellent analytics providing great insight and visibility into the working environment
Pros and Cons
  • "The analytics are a great feature."
  • "The interface could be improved, some customers struggle with that."

What is our primary use case?

We have several use cases but as an example, I have a banking customer who wants to know about their environment with Virtual Apps and Desktops. They're interested in performance, connections and network latency. The management part of Virtual Apps and Desktop is not available when you look at Citrix Cloud, it doesn't provide that information. To get more, you need to use ADM. I'm a cloud solutions architect and we are resellers of Citrix ADM.

How has it helped my organization?

This solution provides customers with the option to leverage all the features to gain more insight and visibility of their environment. Previously, they were always complaining about this lack of data and now performance has improved.

What is most valuable?

I think the analytics is the most valuable feature.

What needs improvement?

I think the interface could be better. I think some customers struggle with that. I mean, the learning curve takes a little longer than in other solutions so I think the interface and maybe training could be improved.

I'd like to see another licensing model that could complement or be similar to licensing models of other networking solutions. It adds flexibility for the customer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. My customers are usually mid-size organizations. Some small business, a few large companies. I now have a client that has close to 10,000 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

I think Citrix has good technical support and a good escalation strategy.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward, very easy. Our implementation strategy is to make a personal assessment for each client and then deploy the tool and all necessary components. It doesn't take more than two hours.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Customers have looked at Ryzen or other cloud services like Amazon, Microsoft Desktop or Azure Virtual Desktops. The advantages of Citrix is that it's managed from a single interface whereas other solutions don't have that presentation or that interface. I also think that ADM and other solutions Citrix offers are very complementary to each other.

What other advice do I have?

It's important to know about other Citrix solutions, it improves the experience. Citrix improves the Virtual Apps and Desktop interface in Citrix Cloud. There are two ways to visualize or take action with the data. I think they are well on the way to being the right solution. It's very viable, they're doing a good job.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Delivery and load balancing that is stable and secure
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are the VDA Delivery, Gateway Fort, and the load balancing."
  • "The security is okay, but the monitoring and reporting need improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We are using this Citrix ADC with Windows Applications and desktop delivery.

How has it helped my organization?

They need to improve the ADC report

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the VDA Delivery, Gateway Fort, and the load balancing.

What needs improvement?

The security is okay, but the monitoring and reporting need improvement.

The price can be reduced. Our customers have compared the pricing and have indicated that there is a big difference compared to others, so it should be more competitive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for the last three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

They have both the VPX and the MPX hardware, and with the ADC, it's a stable product.

How are customer service and technical support?

With a subscription, they will give you immediate support.

How was the initial setup?

Straightforward

What about the implementation team?

In-house Team

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When compared to other solutions, the cost is high.

There are subscriptions for technical support available for an additional fee.

What other advice do I have?

This solution can be deployed on-premises, public cloud, and private cloud. It's hybrid.

It's a good product and I recommend it.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

A scalable and versatile solution that allows us to easily monitor and manage applications and publish to many devices
Pros and Cons
  • "Citrix Director has been great. It gives us one pane of glass to be able to monitor what's going on with the user sessions as well as to keep on top of the virtual desktops, any servers that may be offline or behaving suspiciously, or any troublesome spots like disconnections. We also use Citrix Studio for maintaining the actual servers that are hosting these applications. We use it for delivery groups in case we need to modify delivery groups in regards to which groups have access to which applications. It has been very helpful."
  • "We are looking for some in-depth monitoring and analytics and more information that Citrix Director doesn't provide. ControlUp has insights that not only give you an overview but also allow you to do some drill-down troubleshooting for what's going on in your environment. We are looking for some more analytical and monitoring data to be able to monitor the environment better, not only from an application standpoint but also from the standpoint of the infrastructure to everything it sits on. They can provide more data to the administrators about what's going on within the application. They can provide data not only on the application side but also about what the application sits on. They're making strides with Citrix Analytics in regards to that."

What is our primary use case?

We are just publishing applications. We have some clients who need access to these. So, we're hosting the applications for clients. We're also publishing VDIs and using it for processing VDIs.

What is most valuable?

Citrix Director has been great.

It has been very helpful.

What needs improvement?

We are looking for some in-depth monitoring and analytics and more information that Citrix Director doesn't provide. They're making strides with Citrix Analytics in regards to that.

For how long have I used the solution?

My team has been using it for at least four to five years, and I just joined this team.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It has been pretty stable. The only thing that we've ever experienced is when someone is installing a bad patch or something like that. That has usually been a user error. It wasn't the product; it was the person implementing the patch.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very scalable. That's another reason why our company went with Citrix. It is very scalable and versatile. If you are trying to provide to a group that doesn't necessarily need a full-fledged desktop, you can just publish out whatever application is needed. A lot of groups are very appreciative of that. A lot of groups just want to be able to get to the applications they need to do their work. They don't really want to be bogged down with a full-fledged desktop if they just need one application. Citrix gives you the capability to just do that.

You could publish it to many devices. It doesn't have to be a specific desktop. It could be a tablet as long as a person has access to the internet. You're publishing it into a portal where they can just get to that application from anywhere as long as they have maybe an RSA token, Duo, or some type of security authentication and their phone. We have users who are impressed by the fact that they can get to it. As long as they have their Citrix workspace client on their phone, they can get to wherever they need. It is very versatile in delivery.

Right now, we have about 5,000 to 6,000 onshore and offshore users. Our environment supports healthcare, so we need the ability to deliver to those users who may be working within a hospital. As long as they have an internet connection and a browser, they can access our applications. It has been a very valuable tool that allows us to present that outside our environment.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've had to use them on occasions, and they've been very on point for the initial triaging as well as for the follow-ups. I would rate them an eight or nine out of ten. It was maybe after hours, and it took some time to get to the right engineering team for the issue. It wasn't like we were just waiting on them. It was just getting us over to the right team for a specific issue. After we actually got on the phone with an engineer, they've always been very helpful in getting the issue resolved.

How was the initial setup?

It is pretty straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others to just go through and look at the requirements and the needs of the people you're supporting. I will always recommend doing a POC, just to make sure that the product that you're inquiring about or thinking about purchasing does what it says it does because you don't want to be oversold something and it under-delivers. I will always recommend doing some type of POC to test everything out. If it is in your budget, then I would say go with it.

It has improved the way our organization functions. I have been very impressed with the direction in which Citrix is going. I got introduced to Workspace last year, and I attended the virtual SYNERGY conference. It was very impressive to see so many upcoming things that Citrix is working on. I noticed that VMware also has its version of Workspace, so I guess that's the new hot terminology to use. The Citrix solution is called Workspace, and the VMware solution is called Workspace ONE.

I would rate Citrix ADC a nine out of ten. There's always room for improvement for any application. That's why they have different versions or a series of applications.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
