A really easy-to-use solution for monitoring the logs that need to be more flexible
Pros and Cons
  • "FortiMonitor is really easy to use for monitoring the logs on FortiGate...It is a stable product."
  • "FortiMonitor's monitoring could be much better. It should be like, in Palo Alto."

What is our primary use case?

We use FortiMonitor to monitor logs and everything, especially whatever is being run on FortiGate.

What is most valuable?

FortiMonitor is really easy to use for monitoring the logs on FortiGate.

What needs improvement?

It could be improved. FortiMonitor's monitoring could be much better. It should be like, in Palo Alto. So, I also use Palo Alto. Palo Alto is also very flexible in the logs, but FortiMonitor is not that much flexible.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with FortiMonitor for around two years. I am a partner and reseller for FortiMonitor.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable product.

How are customer service and support?

I have experience with FortiMonitor's customer service and support. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. At least two people, including any system administrator or any engineer, are required to maintain or deploy updates.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

On a scale from one to ten, I rate the pricing a nine since it is a good solution that is available at a cheap price. Palo Alto and FortiGate are also stable firewalls. But FortiMonitor is cheaper than Palo Alto, which is better. If someone has budget issues, they can go for FortiMonitor.

What other advice do I have?

Since there is a need for FortiMonitor to be made a more flexible solution, similar to the logs in Palo Alto, I rate the overall solution a six out of ten.

Proactive monitoring, reliable, and supports dual-factor authentication
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of this solution is what the devices are used for. We have big backups for our Cradlepoint solutions, but FortiMonitor is a great routing device and we love working with them."
  • "We use FortiToken, and it's a pain to use because you have to send things through your phone and then confirm by email. Only after this can you log in. It's dual-factor authentication. I wish that I could just log in or bring up a dashboard where I could log in from."

What is our primary use case?

FortiMonitor is used for high-level up and down monitoring, as well as proactive management and monitoring.

What is most valuable?

FortiMonitor is a great compliment to Cradlepoint.

The most valuable feature of this solution is what the devices are used for. We have big backups for our Cradlepoint solutions, but FortiMonitor is a great routing device and we love working with them.

This solution supports dual-factor authentication.

What needs improvement?

I have had a few problems when connecting from home. When I work at the office, however, I have no trouble with it.

We use FortiToken, and it's a pain to use because you have to send things through your phone and then confirm by email. Only after this can you log in. It's dual-factor authentication. I wish that I could just log in or bring up a dashboard where I could log in from.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

FortiMonitor's stability is great. Unless the carrier has a network outage, they stay up and work.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

FortiMonitor is scalable.

We deploy, approximately 1,000 per month.

I can't offer a number for all of our corporate users. We do retail, people going into businesses, people dealing with businesses, one on one, or, one to 100 things. Because we are not direct clients, I can't disclose anything about my business, but I can tell what we resell to other people.

We use the FortiClient firewall and there are approximately 2,400 users.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did use another solution. However, we have switched to Fortinet because of the discounts we have been given. Our choice basically came down to price.

How was the initial setup?

I was not involved with the initial setup of this solution.

We require API integrations with our own network, therefore I assume we have 60 employees watching it 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a large customer base for Fortinet, and the additional buying power got us really great discounts.

What other advice do I have?

We are FortiMonitor partners as well as Fortinet platinum partners.

I would rate FortiMonitor an eight out of ten.

useful monitoring capabilities, scalable, but logs could improve
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of FortiMonitor is the overall ability to monitor the health of the environment."
  • "There is room for improvement in the FortiMonitor report. It is not ideal for showcasing to tech customers or managers, especially when trying to display high CPU usage from logins within a specific range of months or the most recent month."

What is our primary use case?

FortiMonitor is an appliance with a distribution of Linux Ubuntu and it is working with the Fortinet cloud. We monitor logs from the Fortinet FortiGate and Fortianalyzer environments. We attempt to achieve efficient utilization of the CPU and memory through logs for troubleshooting.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of FortiMonitor is the overall ability to monitor the health of the environment.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in the FortiMonitor report. It is not ideal for showcasing to tech customers or managers, especially when trying to display high CPU usage from logins within a specific range of months or the most recent month.

The PDF documents are not generated, CSV files need to be exported, and Microsoft Excel needs to be used for filters. The solution is too manual to provide to our customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used FortiMonitor for approximately within the last 12 months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is an additional cost if you want to increase the scalability of the solution. However, it is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Fortinet has a highly experienced technical team for firewall-related solutions. However, for other more specialized solutions, such as FortiMonitor, there is a lack of adequate staffing to provide timely support when tickets are submitted. Moreover, the team may not possess the required knowledge to offer the necessary assistance, which can result in longer wait times for someone with the appropriate expertise to provide support.

I rate the support from FortiMonitor a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of FortiMonitor can be done in two ways. The first way is to try and use an open appliance, but in some environments, it is not possible. It's necessary to collect API to send logs. The documentation is okay enough technically to complete the installation in the customer's environment.

To set up an environment like Hyper V, it is necessary to establish minimum requirements, including CPU cores, memory, and hard disk space. After the machine is powered on, configuring the network interface only requires a few steps. Once the environment is configured, the collector will transmit information to the cloud. It is an easy process overall.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are additional costs needed for certain functionality, such as scalability.

What other advice do I have?

I rate FortiMonitor a six out of ten.
