It can block the endpoint at the point of collection, but it needs to improve cloud management and remote connectivity
Pros and Cons
  • "Forescout has a feature that blocks the endpoint at the point of collection. It sets preconditions and will block the system if those aren't met."
  • "Forescout needs to improve its cloud management and remote connectivity."

What is our primary use case?

We're a financial institution with about 30,000 users.

What is most valuable?

Forescout has a feature that blocks the endpoint at the point of collection. It sets preconditions and will block the system if those aren't met.

What needs improvement?

Forescout needs to improve its cloud management and remote connectivity.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Forescout since 2018.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Forescout's scalability isn't robust or straighforward enough. You need to plan ahead and purchase the correct appliance before scaling up. You will be limited if you buy a smaller plan.

How are customer service and support?

You often need in-person support, so Forescout should invest more in training its customers. Customers need to be confident that they can service the solution themselves because it's often hard to get a technician to show up on-site.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also use FortiClient, depending on the use case. Both solutions are good.

How was the initial setup?

Deploying Forescout is complex and takes about four hours. You have to configure the devices before you can send packets. If you miss any of those devices, the application endpoint security will be compromised  In other solutions, you don't need to start the configuration before you can access the network advice. It pushes a policy based on the outcome of the process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price could be reduced. During COVID, many offices switched to remote work, but you still need to pay the same cost to renew the license even though workers are connecting remotely through one VPN.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Forescout Platform six out of 10.

Beneficial viability, easy to manage, and highly scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of the Forescout Platform are ease of management and outstanding visibility. The visibility is simple to obtain."
  • "Forescout Platform could improve the costs of integrations."

What is our primary use case?

I had to gain visibility across my network and be able to block any unknown device connected to my network and this is what I use Forescout Platform for.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the Forescout Platform are ease of management and outstanding visibility. The visibility is simple to obtain.

What needs improvement?

Forescout Platform could improve the costs of integrations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the Forescout Platform for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the Forescout Platform is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Forescout Platform can scale very easily. You can deploy as many servers as you want, and it's highly scalable. There is console to manage all the Forescout servers which make for easy scalability.

Forescout Platform is used by only the network and security administrators. There is a total of 10 people using it.

How was the initial setup?

Forescout Platform is very simple to deploy. We did the deployment within a few hours, and I gained visibility at the end of the day. I had visibility across my whole network.

What about the implementation team?

Forescout Platform does not require a lot of maintenance. It is a low-maintenance platform.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We need to pay for integration for each integration that we want to do and there is an additional license fee. This adds more costs. It is not something that anyone can afford. If you want to integrate this with a lot of other tools, it can be costly.

The initial cost of the Forescout Platform was $200,000 for three years. There are only additional costs for upgrades.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is to use the Forescout professional services. They are offering a fixed price to deploy the solution, and it's major pain relief as you are talking with experts committed to achieving your objectives.

I rate Forescout Platform a ten out of ten.

Great orchestration and discovery capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The best parts of Forescout Platform are its orchestration features, discovery capabilities, classification buckets, and flexibility in creating policies."
  • "Forescout Platform sometimes returns false positives, so there's some fine-tuning to be done there."

How has it helped my organization?

Forescout Platform allows actions to be automated, which reduces the response time to any suspicious or malicious activity.

What is most valuable?

The best parts of Forescout Platform are its orchestration features, discovery capabilities, classification buckets, and flexibility in creating policies.

What needs improvement?

Forescout Platform sometimes returns false positives, so there's some fine-tuning to be done there. There are also some limitations with the Mac and Linux versions - the company claims they're agentless, but they're actually agent-based. In addition, there are a few actions that don't work in conjunction when we apply multiple actions, such as wanting to send a notification and isolate a device. In the next release, I would want to see better compatibility and visibility on the cloud front, and the system needs to keep up with upcoming technologies and trends.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with Forescout Platform for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Forescout Platform is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Forescout Platform is scalable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would rate Forescout Platform's pricing as four out of five.

What other advice do I have?

I would give Forescout Platform a rating of eight out of ten.

Effective asset management, but user experience and technical support could be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "It's one of the tools that has given the federal government visibility into network devices and everything."
  • "I believe that the overall user experience has not always been preferable."

What is our primary use case?

We use the Forescout Platform primarily for asset management.

How has it helped my organization?

The federal government's continuous diagnostics and mitigation programs are the focus of the current project I'm working on.

It's one of the tools that has given the federal government visibility into network devices and everything.

What needs improvement?

The most common complaint I hear about Forescout is about their technical support.

Some sort of highly scalable platform, such as a private cloud, that can be distributed across a network quickly and grow rapidly, would be beneficial.

I believe that the overall user experience has not always been preferable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Forescout Platform since 2018.

I haven't had enough direct experience with the current project to know, but I know the federal government has a variety of various stages of Forescout deployment, but I believe it's just different versions of the CounterACTs appliances and such.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It has a place in terms of stability. I believe Forescout is likely to compete with other NAC tools used by agencies, such as Cisco ISE and new EDR tools that are entering the market. I believe, will be considered. But, overall, the asset management, is effective.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of our deployment, it's basically just buying more CounterACT appliances whenever we need to scale up. It can be done, but it's not scalable in the way that a cloud deployment is, it's somewhere in the middle.

We have a large number of users, in our organization.

It has been implemented in a large number of federal agencies, including the Departments of Health and Human Services, Agriculture, and the Treasury. It's quite large.

I believe that the current state should be maintained. I don't believe there are any major plans to increase our usage. Maybe just upgrades or future license upgrades, or something like that.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support needs improvement. They are not very responsive to existing customers.

My interactions with them have been satisfactory, but I've heard from federal agencies that they had difficulties because they brought it to us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

When we arrived, Forescout was still in the process of being deployed. I don't believe they had the kind of capability that Forescout provides prior to our arrival. If anything, they had different NAC tools.

How was the initial setup?

Because of the way it is deployed, the initial setup was complex.

I would rate the initial setup a three out of five.

It took a long time to complete. It's a massive deployment, depending on the agency, it could take at least six months to get it up and running and collect the data we require. Some of it is still ongoing.

What about the implementation team?

To my knowledge, Forescout did the majority of the deployment.

We are Forescout Platform integrators, consultants, and partners.

Most agencies, I believe, have NAC engineers who manage it, and they most likely have training skillsets for it. I would say that most shops require two to three, three to four people to maintain.

What was our ROI?

In terms of ROI, I've never seen any data.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't have pricing information.

There are no additional costs that I am aware of.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

They evaluated other solutions before choosing the Forescout Platform.

What other advice do I have?

Before you begin deploying it, I would suggest that you define how you intend to use it. Just have an end state in mind so that you can build towards it and ensure you have all the functions you need for the design in place. Whatever you want to do with the data that comes out of it, try to define it first.

I would rate Forescout Platform a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Helpful support, comprehensive, and simple configuration
Pros and Cons
  • "Forescout Platform's most valuable features are that it is very granular. We are able to cull out a lot of information about our particular device or endpoint. The configuration and the visibility are very seamless. Overall the solution is very easy to handle and it's very comprehensive."
  • "Initially, the implementation of the Forescout Platform took some time to figure out. The reason is we are a manufacturing unit and we have certain silos that are insulated areas where certain systems will not connect to the internet or to the LAN. Since there are many parts of it, we have to have an inclusive view of all those systems. It took a while for us to initially implement, but after a few months, everything worked well."

What is most valuable?

Forescout Platform's most valuable features are that it is very granular. We are able to cull out a lot of information about our particular device or endpoint. The configuration and the visibility are very seamless. Overall the solution is very easy to handle and it's very comprehensive.

We have visibility of all the hidden assets and there are various versions of implementations of an AV in our environment. From the Forescout Platform, we have clarity of the device, and all the different versions reported in a simple dashboard. The number of attacks has been minimal. After this installation, we didn't have any kind of noticeable incident.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the Forescout Platform for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Forescout Platform is scalable.

We have approximately 4,000 people using the solution in my organization.

How are customer service and support?

We have used the support and it has been good. However, sometimes we have missed them because of the timezone difference.

I rate the support from Forescout Platform a four out of five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have previously used Symantec Mac. We switched to the Forescout Platform because Symantec has certain inhibitions. Symantec doesn't have an agentless implementation and they don't have a roadmap.

I have done many POCs with many similar solutions, such as Aruba ClearPass and Cisco ISE.

The implementation of Aruba ClearPass was very difficult. When we tried other solutions, the initial learning is difficult and takes a lot of time. Forescout Platform has been straightforward to use.

Cisco ISE has a very difficult integration for us.

How was the initial setup?

Initially, the implementation of the Forescout Platform took some time to figure out. The reason is we are a manufacturing unit and we have certain silos that are insulated areas where certain systems will not connect to the internet or to the LAN. Since there are many parts of it, we have to have an inclusive view of all those systems. It took a while for us to initially implement, but after a few months, everything worked well.

What about the implementation team?

We have a help desk team for support of this solution. We have a few security people to handle it.  We don't require that much of people for maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is reasonable. We have paid for the license for five years. We have integration with Symantec AV for orchestration, and we have an additional license.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is Forescout Platform is a good solution. It's fairly simple to deploy in an environment, far better than the other products in which we have done a POC, has good stability and performance.

I highly recommend it.

I rate Forescout Platform a ten out of ten.

Simple to set up, easy to integrate, and very reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "Forescout is easy to integrate with a lot of end systems."
  • "The cost is too high."

What is our primary use case?

This solution ensures that every endpoint is compliant.

What is most valuable?

Forescout is easy to integrate with a lot of end systems.

It is very simple to set up.

We can scale the product.

It's stable.

Pre-sales is very helpful.

What needs improvement?

The cost is too high. We are looking at some other solution where costs might be lower.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for two to three months now. I've just joined the company.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. It is reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. I'd rate the stability a five out of five. We have not had any issues aside from a configuration that was not done right.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

While I haven't personally attempted to scale, it is my understanding that we are adding licenses and expanding it. Therefore, in all likelihood, it can scale.

We have 800 users in total. All departments use it.

How are customer service and support?

While I have spoken to pre-sales and found them helpful, I've never really dealt with technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In other organizations, I've used Nevis and Cisco ISE.

Nevis is not very good as far as scalability is concerned. ISE is good. There are no issues with that. Forescout also should be good. There should not be any issues, and I do not expect any challenges.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is straightforward to set up. It is not complex at all.

We're currently working with a third party that is auditing the implementation process. I also need some help from Forescout to validate how the implementation is currently done here.

What about the implementation team?

I wasn't part of the initial setup. However, my understanding is there was a third party involved. We just brought in a new third party, in fact. We're in the audit phase and working out some parameters. We're working to improve the integration aspect.

What was our ROI?

Since the costs continually go up with each new endpoint, we don't really see an ROI. However, we do see value in the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is very expensive.

The price is based on the number of endpoints and is an annual cost. For one license, we pay around 3,000 Indian rupees.

If you keep adding endpoints, the price keeps going up. Even if one user has three endpoints, you are paying for each endpoint, not per user.

What other advice do I have?

We are customers.

I'm not sure of the version we are using.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. It's just a bit too expensive. Still, I would recommend it.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Excellent support, reliable, and received return on investment
Pros and Cons
  • "Forescout Platform is stable, it is great."
  • "Forescout Platform could improve the integration or compatibility with other solutions, such as Chinese-made solutions. They do not have any integration with S33 which is a switch. They do not have good integration with new solutions in the market. They do integrate well with Rocket, Cisco, Juniper, and quite a few more but they could expand the integration."

What is our primary use case?

We are using the Forescout Platform for controlling the access to the network for devices.

What needs improvement?

Forescout Platform could improve the integration or compatibility with other solutions, such as Chinese-made and other market solutions. They do not have any integration with H3C,  RUCKUS Switching, Lenovo, CommScope, IBM Switching etc. which are network/Communication Brands. They do not have integration with new solutions in the market. They do integrate well with Brocade, Cisco, Juniper, and quite a few more but they could expand the integration.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the Forescout Platform for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Forescout Platform is stable, it is great.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The stability of the Forescout Platform is good.

How are customer service and support?

I had an issue with the license at the beginning but the support fixed the situation promptly the same day.

I rate the support from Forescout Platform a five out of five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

There are two main solutions in the market, Cisco ISE, and Forescout Platform. If we compare both of them, the Forescout Platform is best. The solution is top of the line. If someone wants to choose a NAC solution, I will definitely recommend it.

What was our ROI?

We needed this solution for our organization, it was essential. We have received a return on investment.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others, it is the best in the market at this time.

I rate Forescout Platform a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
