Integrated hardware security has protected endpoints and streamlines remote incident response
Pros and Cons
  • "The best features that Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro offers include excellent integration between hardware and software security, providing significant leverage on AI-driven threat detection and giving all insights in one shot."
  • "As for improvements for Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro, there is currently no better support for mixed-vendor devices—if it is Dell, it is fine, but for other devices, the support is not that great."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro is that CrowdStrike Falcon is the best EDR solution currently in the market, and Dell Trusted Device comes along with Dell products, while Intel vPro provides security and remote management. Overall, it provides a great stack for working in a company or enterprise environment, helping significantly during execution and other aspects, allowing tasks to be performed in a secure manner at the hardware level.

What is most valuable?

In my day-to-day work, I use Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro starting with monitoring after the operating system starts, basically managing BIOS, firmware, boot processes, secure boot, UEFI integrity, and hardware tampering at the hardware security level. All these potential attacks on Windows can be easily detected by the hardware-level security that the EDR solution of Falcon provides. The CrowdStrike Falcon integration is extremely good, as I believe there is no other product in the market that provides all these features in one bundle, including threat intelligence, MITRE ATT&CK mapping, ransomware detection, and more. In our company, it helps us manage hardware shield and threat detection technology, and we have actually seen device recovery when the OS is not responsive—these scenarios were easily tackled via this product.

When we use Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro, we actually have administrative-level insights on most things, allowing us to see BIOS health and firmware events. If we want to deploy anywhere, we can check security postures, device integrity, and data disk encryptions, all via one dashboard, which is a great overall feature.

The best features that Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro offers include excellent integration between hardware and software security, providing significant leverage on AI-driven threat detection and giving all insights in one shot. I get firmware-level visibility across the board, so whoever is the admin can check that. Remote management, which Intel provides as part of the product offering, is really good. I have seen very little performance impact at the endpoint level with this EDR solution. I have used only this EDR solution and do not want any other, as it provides everything needed and is well-suited for zero-trust architectures, fitting perfectly in those scenarios.

The features of Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro help me day-to-day by allowing me to identify issues beforehand, making my life comparatively easy. For remote management, if, for instance, a person's OS is not responding, the admin can easily manage the situation, doing automatic reboots or similar tasks from the management console, which has definitely helped us a lot.

What needs improvement?

As for improvements for Dell Trusted Device powered by CrowdStrike Falcon and Intel vPro, there is currently no better support for mixed-vendor devices—if it is Dell, it is fine, but for other devices, the support is not that great. Additionally, the reporting dashboard could be made more comprehensive. I believe the licensing should be simplified and made cheaper, as they have been in the business for some time. Customization in alerting and reporting is another area they can enhance as a product offering.

The need for chip-level recovery is definitely evident, especially since there was a serious outage due to CrowdStrike Falcon that I have heard about, related to a null pointer exception—though concrete proof of that is lacking. When I see the blue screen of Windows on my system, it causes a panic moment, fearing lost work, so chip-level recovery is definitely necessary. I believe having control over these details via the Dell dashboard is extremely helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for almost eight and a half years.
