We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's incredibly easy to use and greatly simplified our ability to both deploy and manage our storage subsystems.""The high availability of the product is the most valuable feature.""It's helped us because we've changed fundamentally what we talk about. We don't talk about storage and different tiers of storage anymore nor do we talk about servers. We talk now about applications and how applications impact the business and end users.""The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""It has good, reliable, fast storage.""The most valuable features of Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its superior performance compared to other flash tiers, as well as its ease of use, with an intuitive user interface that is simple to deploy and use.""The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use."

"The initial setup is straightforward.""It performed great originally, and when it performed great, it was awesome.""It provides a combination of all the protocols that you need, without losing deduplication and compression.""It's very fast. We were seeing read latencies of less than one millisecond. It is robust.""It has reduced our electricity usage by reducing the amount of disks needed for the virtual environment.""EasyTier/hotcaching: Valuable because it allows greater performance than standard SAS disks""High performance and ease-of-management are the most valuable features.""Data Compression: Up to 80% space reduction in the database"

"Great value for money.""This is a stable storage system.""The solution works well for non-critical applications that do not require a heavy workload. The tool's all features are valuable.""Its technical support team is helpful.""We get a quick response in case any component defaults. We have seen the benefits mostly.""The solution is easy to scale as needed.""The solution is scalable.""The solution is easy to use."

Cons
"Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better.""If the customer only needs 500 terabytes and doesn't care how much data they'll put in the server, IBM is cheaper than Pure.""They could add more support for file storage and different types of storage.""We would like to see VNC integration or be able to use Pure Storage with VNC.""In the future, I would like to see integration with enterprise backup systems.""In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"In the proxy section you can’t choose a user account and password, so it is not allowed at the moment to go out, if customer has such constellation.""Snapshots are not as easy to access as on a NetApp device.""It's somewhat scalable, but maybe not so much as some of the competition.""They need to offer better integration for a virtual platform to enable you to create hyper-converged solution.""Performance is horrible now. Our original intent was to buy new storage in about two years. But since it became a critical urgency for us, we decided to purchase a new one in two or three months.""It only keeps one hour of real-time data without the ability to do deep analysis of each element.""Technical support is bad. It'd grade them at 30% or 40%. The response time is terrible.""We had just one small stability problem with power flapping and it did not start up again automatically. We had to access service ports and manually restart the storage processors."

More DDN IntelliFlash Cons →

"Its data replication features work slowly for nodes.""The tool's performance is slow for DBs. We plan to move from Huawei OceanStor to Pure Storage. Its customer service is not good.""I would like to see the next generation all-flash, which could be combined.""The solution’s reporting could be improved.""The solution could improve by having better integration.""Its storage capacity could be better.""We did experience a little latency with this solution.""The speed has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "I recommend the full bundle software in order to have all the functionality. It is more expensive to purchase it one by one."
  • "I think we pay around 100 grand per year for three arrays or four arrays."

  • "This product value matches its price."
  • "It's roughly affordable."
  • "Pricing is very fair."
  • "Huawei OceanStor is priced very well but is a bit complicated."
  • "The price of the solution could be less expensive. However, there are not any licensing costs."
  • "We pay a monthly licensing fee for this solution. The price could be less expensive."
  • "The pricing depends on the features the customer wants, such as storage, RAM, and processors, but in general, Huawei is much cheaper compared to Dell and Cisco."
  • "The price of Huawei OceanStor should be less expensive. It is expensive at the moment."

    Overview

Pure Storage FlashArray//X is the world’s first enterprise-class, all-NVMe flash storage array. It represents a new class of storage – shared accelerated storage, which is a term coined by Gartner – that delivers major breakthroughs in performance, simplicity, and consolidation.

Western Digital through its IntelliFlash arrays delivers high-performance storage with a complete range of features and connectivity options, including inline compression and deduplication, application and VM consistent snapshots, replication, RAID, data encryption, VMware vCenter integration, and multi-protocol support for SAN (FC, iSCSI) and NAS (NFS, SMBv3). IntelliFlash arrays deliver high availability through dualredundant and hot-swappable components, active/active or active/passive controllers, non-disruptive software upgrades, eMLC flash, and proactive cloud-based monitoring, analytics, and intelligence. A RESTful API provides scripted or programmatic control.

OceanStor Dorado V3 is the industry's first all-flash storage that puts NVMe into commercial use. It is specially designed for enterprises' mission-critical businesses, meeting the most-demanding performance and reliability requirements of databases, VDI, server virtualization, and SAP HANA.
