We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most outstanding aspect of DigitalOcean is its user interface and ease of use. Compared to more complex solutions, such as AWS, DigitalOcean's platform is highly intuitive and user-friendly.""The solution is easy to set up.""The most valuable feature is the ease with which you can create a phishing server and use it.""I like Kubernetes integration.""It's been a good choice for us for some services. We generally have several deployments. For instance, for some static Angular applications, it was a clear choice to run them on Cloudflare, which performs very well in this context. All the assets go on DigitalOcean.""The customer support team are very responsive.""The user interface is nice, and it is very easy to use. Anyone can use it.""The solution is very stable."

"I love Firebase's notifications, crash analytics, and bug tracking. It gives you detailed reporting about app usage and users.""Google Firebase has a lot of services like storage, Firestore, and push notifications.""The scalability is good.""Its simplicity makes it quite handy for my needs in app development.""The most valuable feature I like is about the realtime. Updates are also very fast.""What I like most about Google Firebase is that it's one of the easier options to host a website or app quickly.""It is a stable solution...It is a very scalable solution.""The solution is useful for managing users and user authentication."

More Google Firebase Pros →

"It is really scalable and easy to use.""I use a virtual machine for remote desktop and Microsoft Azure is user-friendly.""Azure has the best website amongst all cloud computing platforms. It is simple to utilize, and one can release nearly anything, from app services to host sites.""It's been pretty useful in terms of migration and disaster recovery strategy.""We can easily access and integrate data sources from other platforms.""Azure offers broad compatibility with both structured and unstructured data. For example, we use PostgreSQL for storing Azure's official data and manage various types of data, including tabular and image data, accommodating the storage of all data types we handle. So, in many ways, Azure simplified the data storage and management needs.""Microsoft Azure has a large scope, it can do many things.""The solution is easy to use and flexible."

Cons
"I would like to see improvements to the logging and user interface. The verification process could be more streamlined.""The solution could improve by having integration with GitHub.""We found the solution to be a bit expensive.""Other solutions are proving the monitoring feature, like AWS having GuardDuty and SAP having services for logs and monitoring. DigitalOcean doesn’t have any other benefits.""The technical support for this solution could be improved.""I would like to see an automation feature added to send emails out using the open-source solution.""The issue with DigitalOcean is primarily the latency. So, when you have a mixed system with some components staying here, and then we encounter network latency, it's not optimal. Our""I think something needs to be done in terms of technical support."

More DigitalOcean Cons →

"We use Firebase for media processing and we are growing more. As we grow, the pricing goes high and it's high compared to competitors. The solution is expensive.""The cold start-up of the cloud function needs to speed up. For me personally, I'm not experienced in anything there, however, I've just read online it's a problem.""In Google Firebase, reporting is an area with shortcomings where improvements are required to be made in the future.""The solution's notification system could be much better.""Google Cloud Functions (which is still a BETA version) needs to have more control over the uploaded functions. That is, it needs more options for controlling the functions itself.""I would like to have a facility for testing possible scenarios by writing dummy data and then doing different queries.""I would like to see faster data migration and some support for other languages in the next release.""The solution's pricing could be better."

More Google Firebase Cons →

"While integrating services from different vendors, the perceived costs are high, with occasional confusion about specific charges, especially in data transfer scenarios between regions.""There are so many services available that the interface is a little bit messy, and when you're looking for a specific service, you have to know exactly where to search.""There should be more language options for the Azure Functions apps. It supports programming languages, but there are only a few options. It could have more programming languages.""I would like to see this solution support integration.""For deploying multiple resources in a big number, such as in hundreds, we need a streamlined process and more user-friendly scrips. The scripts have to be more user-friendly, and they should also supply some standard templates to deploy multiple resources at a time. Currently, it is very easy to deploy a couple of resources, but if you want to deploy multiple resources, it becomes complex. The material that they provide for integration with an existing on-prem data center is complex. They have to make them user-friendly. The scripts related to resource management need to be simplified.""Microsoft Azure could improve by having more virtual machine operating systems available.""The pricing can be reduced.""The level of authorization or authorization cascading can be improved. We have the most powerful admins and then we have sub-admins, but the level of authorization is not that easy to handle or manage."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The program is cheaper than others."
  • "This is a pay as you go solution. There is no license and it is usage based."
  • "There is no licensing fee but there is a subscription cost based on how much RAM and storage you require."
  • "The price of DigitalOcean could be lower. It is expensive. it's higher than other solutions available in the market. We pay approximately $20 to $25 a month to use the solution. The price we pay is for the shared CPU option."
  • "The solution provides the cheapest cloud in comparison to the other cloud solutions."
  • "The pricing is cheap."
  • "I would rate DigitalOcean's pricing a six out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is very expensive."

  • "They have a free tier that will cover most projects. For more intensive use, you pay as you use it, but the price is very cheap."
  • "It is not easy to calculate the cost per copy, use or if the load rose dramatically we did not know how that would impact the final price."
  • "The monthly cost is based on writing data and queries to the database."
  • "The pricing component is a bit confusing when it comes to what exactly you'll pay for, but I wouldn't say it's expensive."
  • "The moment you go into volumes, then you work on a pay-per-volume basis."
  • "The price of Google Firebase is very good."
  • "We are using the free version of Google Firebase."
  • "Pricing for Google Firebase is not so expensive, and if you're a start-up with a small amount of data, it will be quite cheap, and there's even a free tier that you can use. If you're doing a pilot with a reasonable amount of data, for example, just a few gigabytes, it's still on the free tier. If you increase the amount of data, Google Firebase pricing is still reasonable."

  • "Related to pricing and licensing, you have to be careful how you operate with the concept."
  • "Be careful with Azure Cool storage accounts; if you are dealing with high object counts, then it can be more economical to use Hot storage because of the high storage access costs associated with Cool."
  • "Make use of Azure pricing calculator and you will find out that Azure Is still more reasonable that the competition and do your research, when unclear speak with your MS support."
  • "It’s necessary to use third party products or to use good self-management economic tools"
  • "Keep to PaaS to gain the optimal benefits from an OPEX finance and resource perspective."
  • "Several thousand dollars and counting, we haven't needed to upgrade on premises hardware (In fact we eliminated all of the old on-premises hardware and run 100% on Azure) or pay for it's maintenance, power etc."
  • "If you are not aware of costs, pricing, etc., you can end up with a hefty bill. However, I found that the Azure price calculator is a valuable tool to use before starting to deploy VMs in Azure. This tool will give you an overview of the costs you should expect on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis."
  • "Pricing is very difficult to guesstimate. With so many a la carte options and individual pricing it can be a hassle to understand."

Amazon Web Services, Rackspace OpenStack, Microsoft Windows Azure and Google are the major cloud hosting and storage service providers. Athough Amazon is top of them and is oldest in cloud market, Rackspace, Microsoft and Google are giving tough competition to each other and to Amazon also for alluring IT customers. This article give brief history of these cloud hosting service providers and compares the cloud services provided by them. -- Amazon Web Services -- It's hard to find someone who doesn't agree that Amazon Web Services is the market leader in IaaS cloud computing. The company has one of the widest breadths of cloud services - including compute, storage, networking, databases, load balancers, applications and application development platforms all delivered as a cloud service. Amazon has dropped its prices 21 times since it debuted its cloud six years ago and fairly consistently fills whatever gaps it has in the size of virtual machine instances on its platform - the company recently rolled out new high-memory instances, for example. There are some cautions for Amazon though. Namely, its cloud has experienced three major outages in two years. One analyst, Jillian Mirandi of Technology Business Researcher, has suggested that continued outages could eventually start hindering businesses' willingness to invest in Amazon infrastructure. That sentiment gets to a larger point about AWS though - the service seems to be popular in the startup community, providing the IT… Read more →
