Apache JMeter Valuable Features

The reporting features are really good. There's a lot less latency than other solutions. We configure our API script and execute it through JMeter, get a response time over there, and compare that response time with the Azure cloud response time. The latency is low. JMeter is optimized very well.

Another valuable feature is that we can distribute our load in different formats, like a responsive load. Then, we can distribute our load in a different manner by using plugins.

We decided to use JMeter because it's open source, and it's a very stable product. There are many plugins that are easily available to configure multiple things.

The solution is scalable.

The stability is good.

To me, what's most valuable in Apache JMeter is that it's a lightweight tool for application testing. It's the best load-testing tool for my company because Apache JMeter simulates your application during testing. Apache JMeter also creates threads with good server utilization. Apache JMeter allows you to focus on analyzing the situation, looking into measurements, response time, and client-server responses, which I find valuable.

Apache JMeter is well-known and widely used among developers, particularly on popular developer forums. While it may not have the most user-friendly interface, it offers strong support through official manuals and various articles from companies providing load testing services.

The tool is free, has a substantial community, and serves as a fundamental choice for testers, especially those new to performance testing. While other tools like K6 may be more developer-oriented, JMeter's affordability and accessibility make it suitable for those without extensive performance testing experience.

It's a powerful tool that is open source. There are various functionalities that can be used in various combinations. You can use Jmeter for automation, like getting some APIs. You can use JMeter for the performance testing. You can add listeners. You can look at the results and can generate a load with JMeter. The beauty of JMeter is there is a lot of support from the communities online who have worked on JMeter and can give first-hand advice. Most of our queries are already answered by someone, so we get the benefit of learning from them.

It's a good tool for automated performance testing and some behavioral things.

I am a basic user. I couldn't explain the different features deeply. I use, for example, the web services. I like the features where you are programming at an increased rate in web services. I use those features. For example, as part of using our web services, if there are 100 transactions with three threads, and I want to finish with 5,000 transactions with 20 threads on different pages, I can find the rate which my server used on each page. I like this feature in JMeter.

A valuable feature is that when there's a high number of TPS I can achieve more transactions per second given the hyper-limitations. If the TPS is more than 5,000 TPS, the CPUs get very high (for Load runner)  and JMeter handles that well. I'd also say that the scripting flexibility like co-relation using regular expression is good, it's in the central control. Those would be the two major valuable features.

JMeter is very easy for a user who doesn't have too much programming knowledge, as scripting is not mandatory nor essential to create the testing scenarios. This means the user doesn't need to know how to write code to run a complete set of load tests. Although, If you're an advanced user, JMeter does gives the possibility of using BeanShell, Groovy or Java to script your tests.

JMeter has a very friendly and intuitive User Interface which allows users to configure the scenarios reusing components already defined, which you can also modify to fit the requirements of the tests.

One very important feature of JMeter is that it is open source and it can be easily extended through a huge set of available plugins.

I like the fact that JMeter integrates well with other tools. For instance, we are also looking at OctoPerf and, I know for OctoPerf, you can import JMeter scripts, whereas, for LoadRunner, you cannot import LoadRunner scripts into OctoPerf.

I like the graphing; it is good.

Once I got past the learning curve, it was okay.

There were a lot of features that translated well from LoadRunner. I have LoadRunner experience, so once I applied my base knowledge to JMeter, then it was okay. The terminology was a little different, but the functionality is similar. For instance, They are called "extractors," in JMeter and called "correlation" in LoadRunner.

Once I learned the terminology and how to navigate through JMeter, then it was easier.

I still think LoadRunner is a better tool, but for some purposes, JMeter would suit the need.
