Sophos Firewall Reviews

We mostly use the solution as a standard firewall and email protection. 

The solution overall is fine.

It offers an easy initial setup. 

The solution is stable. 

We ultimately chose Sophos due to its good reputation and good price.

Part of the web application firewalling could be improved.

We'd always like the solution to be a bit less in terms of cost.

We bought appliances at the beginning of 2020, so we've used it for more than two years.

It is stable and reliable. It offers good performance. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. 

In terms of the overall stability of devices, I would rate it eight out of ten. 

We have around 215 people using the solution. 

I didn't need any support from Sophos. I can't speak to how they would be if someone required help. 

We found the implementation process to be easy. It's not overly complex at all. 

The costs are reasonable. I'd rate them three out of five. They could be a bit cheaper, however, it's not too bad. 

I'm a customer and end-user.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. They are pretty good overall. 

We are system integrators implementing Sophos fvarious of clients, including government agencies, industry, small offices, and schools. We can implement this solution for any organization. They have Sophos on the cloud, but we only install on-premises for our clients. 

We receive an email report on the number of attacks Sophos has stopped each day. Since we installed the solution, the number of detected attacks has increased considerably. 

Web filtering and intrusion detection are essential features. As system integrators, we also like the dashboard because it's easier to configure all the features.

Our only issue is the price.

I started working with Sophos about four years ago.

Sophos is stable.

Sophos is scalable. You can do high availability and a lot of other things with it.

I rate Sophos' support five out of 10. It's sometimes difficult to contact them, and finding a solution is not easy.

Sophos is one of the best solutions on the market, but Meraki and FortiGate are on the same level. We only work with Sophos and Meraki. We don't use any other vendors. Meraki is installed for specific situations, but we use Sophos for the rest.

There is an installation wizard, so the deployment is straightforward. The basic installation takes about an hour. However, it takes longer to build a customized solution for a client with multiple policies that must be configured. It is easy to do it, but it takes time.

After the deployment, there isn't much maintenance. They notify us when they need to install an update.  We can do it without rebooting the system, so the customer has no downtime. 

I rate Sophos XGS five out of 10 for affordability. Sophos has several license tiers. The basic license is Network Protection, and you can purchase additional modules. Right now, if I want to upgrade one client to the new one, they give me a 99 percent discount on hardware. However, the hardware cost is nothing because the license is expensive.

I rate Sophos XGs nine out of 10. Aside from the price and the support, the solution is excellent. My only advice is to be careful because you cannot renew the license again once Sophos products reach the end of life. You have to purchase a new solution.

Our team of implementation partners serve as consultants and resellers of the solution. 

The solution offers more antimalware and antivirus feeds than others and it is simple to implement the application from one rule. 

The solution's interface is very good. 

The solution could improve inspection processes and troubleshooting for VPNs because this area is very weak. 

Improvement in VNET protection is also needed. 

I have been using the solution for five years. 

The solution is stable. 

The solution is scalable. 

Technical support is very good. 

We implement this solution and other firewalls such as WatchGuard. A company's size such as small, medium, or enterprise determines the best solution. 

The setup is simple but troubleshooting is complex. 

The pricing is very good. 

I rate the solution an eight out of ten. 

Sophos XGS can be deployed on the cloud or on-premise.

Sophos XGS is used as a perimeter security solution.

The most valuable features in Sophos XGS are identity and VPN. It is a very good solution that is able to detect and prevent a lot of malicious activity.

Sophos XGS could improve the automation system. It could be better if there was some level of automation, attacks automation, meaning if this happens, then it automatically executes a particular process.

I have been using Sophos XGS for approximately five years.

Sophos XGS is stable.

The stability of Sophos XGS is good.

We have approximately 200 people using this solution in my organization. The users are edge devices using the solution. 

Sophos XGS has good support.

I have previously used Fortinet and MikroTik.

The initial setup of Sophos XGS is easy for network engineers. The time it takes to deploy the solution depends on many factors. However, on average it takes approximately two hours.

The price of Sophos XGS is average compared to other offers from other OEMs.

I would recommend that others consider using the endpoint solution from the same OEM.

I rate Sophos XGS a nine out of ten.

I am a user and we are also resellers of this solution. Our company is in the Ivory Coast, we are partners with Sophos and I'm a technician.

It's very easy to manage this solution. 

There are issues with some designs being able to work on high availability. We design our architecture in three tiers on the network. There is the core tier, the distribution tier, and the access tier. We haven't succeeded in our attempts to configure this and haven't been able to find documentation on how to go about it. Sophos has a single sign-on, but it requires configuration to communicate with the firewall and that is lacking. The configuration on Sophos is well described, but the configuration on the Windows system is not well described in relation to the Sophos knowledge base. It took a lot of my own research to figure out what was wrong. I'm a cyber security guy so it's very difficult for me to implement the solution.

I've been using this solution for seven years. 

My customers find the product to be stable.

I believe that the solution is scalable. 

We now have access to French support, English support, and Indian support. We had great support from India and we worked well together. I now choose French support, because that's my mother tongue but it's quite difficult to work with them.

The initial setup is simple and straightforward. When you connect on the wizard, you just click through and you're there. 

The pricing has changed a lot over the years. Sophos says they are less expensive than other solutions in the marketplace, but that's not my experience. I believe this product is more expensive. 

If you're looking for equipment that's easy to manage, this is a good product. I rate this solution eight out of 10. 

Sophos XGS is used by our customers as a firewall. It is a gateway or perimeter security device. We use content filtering for applications, bandwidth management, VPN, or as a web application firewall. We are using all of the features, such as authentication, captive portal, and single sign-on.

The most valuable features in Sophos XGS are bandwidth management, content filtering, and WAN link management failover. If one internet activity or one link would fail, automatically it will switch over to another one. 

The VPN capability needs some improvement in Sophos XGS.

I have been using Sophos XGS for approximately 15 years.

Sophos XGS is a very stable solution.

The architecture of Sophos XGS is fixed, it is not scalable.

The support from Sophos XGS is very good.

The initial setup of Sophos XGS is very easy and straightforward.

I rate the initial setup difficulty level of Sophos XGS a one out of five.

The price of Sophos XGS depends on the type of license. However, the licensing cost is approximately 60 percent of the total cost.

I would recommend others evaluate the solution before they purchase it.

I rate Sophos XGS an eight out of ten.

I mainly use Sophos XGS for content filtering and reporting.

Sophos XGS's most valuable feature is content filtering.

There are some bugs relating to the product that allow VPN users to bypass the firewall.

I've been using Sophos XGS for about eight years.

Sophos' technical support is not good and needs to improve responsiveness, integration, and knowledge.

Negative

The initial setup is complex as Sophos doesn't support the installation or configuration. I would rate the ease of setup as one out of five.

Sophos XGS costs around $75,000 for fifty units. Its pricing isn't very expensive - I'd rate it four out of five. 

I would give Sophos XGS a rating of eight out of ten.

It's deployed on-prem. We're using the latest version of this solution.

The SD-WAN feature isn't very good. It's there, but it doesn't work properly.

It's stable.

It's scalable.

Technical support is good. I would rate them 3 out of 5.

Setup was straightforward. One person is enough for deployment.

The ROI has been satisfactory.

The cost is comparable to other similar solutions.
