SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer Valuable Features
I use the application recognition feature within SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer.
The application recognition feature of SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer has helped me identify and manage bandwidth-intensive applications by providing insight into the applications and their behavior regarding bandwidth consumption, so I can reverse engineer and advise my application development teams if there are any lightweight applications causing unnecessary traffic and using bandwidth that should not be consumed.
The integration of SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer with other SolarWinds tools such as Network Performance Monitor is very important for our network visibility, as integration is quite simple and smooth if you follow the standard process mentioned in the SolarWinds guidelines and knowledge base documentation.

This tool provides insights into top utilization applications or it identifies which circuit or application is consuming the most on the complete one-gig circuit traffic path. This feature makes net flows very visible to me and to customers, showing what is happening at the backend. This is the main feedback I receive from customers about how NetFlow is being managed.

It provides more insights. I can see how spikes or the time interval. I can set up and customize the time when I want to see how I want to see the traffic. For the customization, I can go ahead and put my time interval, which intervals I want to see the traffic, and how it is behaving.
So I can point out the exact root cause 'why.' If there is a slowness, I can point out what was before the issue or before the slowness, what it is, and what is now so I can really compare. I can determine that. This could be a potential cause. Then I need to drill down why it is causing that spike at that particular point in time. Maybe I need to drill down on the server level and component level.
View full review »We conduct network traffic analysis for a couple of key reasons. First, we look for traffic anomalies, such as unexpected increases or decreases in network traffic within specific segments. This helps us determine if the network needs to be re-architected.
We also analyze peak bandwidth and bandwidth consumption across various network segments, which is crucial if someone is planning to transition to software-defined networks. The network traffic analyzer tool allows us to simulate scenarios and compare before-and-after results. Additionally, it supports traffic sources like NetFlow and SFlow, and we regularly check the quality of service using NetFlow.
The tool handles a variety of protocols, such as NetFlow version 5 and version 9, JFlow, and SFlow, making it independent of the underlying technology.
View full review »The most valuable aspect is its ability to identify issues when there is an overloaded link. It helps with applying QoS or traffic engineering in the network. It offers basic traffic visibility, which is essential in daily network operations.

View full review »The bandwidth monitoring functionality is one of the most important features for our customers. When the customer notices that their bandwidth usage is too high for some reason, they will use the traffic analysis within SolarWinds NTA to identify which protocols (e.g. HTTPS) or applications are using up the bandwidth.
Another solid feature of SolarWinds NTA is their reports. They offer real-time traffic reports that show updates every five to 10 seconds.
View full review »What my organization likes best about SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is its easy deployment. It's also well-integrated in terms of monitoring because my organization also uses a SolarWinds solution for monitoring. You can connect SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer directly to that monitoring tool to get information.
My organization also finds the default graphs that appear before the configuration in SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer very useful.
View full review »The most valuable feature of SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is that it watches how your network is doing, checks the traffic, and warns you if there might be problems. It is great at telling you if your devices are working and it keeps an eye on your network's overall performance.

The most helpful feature of SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is bandwidth analysis, which lets you see who's hogging your network.
View full review »What I like about SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is that it's useful for analyzing traffic. It also has an application visibility feature that lets you control applications.
View full review »What the network team found most valuable in SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is that it helps them to troubleshoot or analyze the issue. For example, traffic that comes from our location: India, goes to the US, so for the network team to analyze where the traffic comes from and where it is directed, and whether the packets are being dropped, they use SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer.
The network team also likes that through the solution, they can analyze the complete traffic utilization and how they're going to use it.
SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is user-friendly. The team finds it comfortable to use.
View full review »The configuration and ease of deployment are great. Within half a day, you can start seeing the traffic data coming in. Over a period of time, you can gradually improve the quality of the data and the sampling rate. For example, let's say you have got a new network or a new extension to a network, and you want to see its behavior. You cannot wait two or three days as you'll get hacked. With this, within a few hours, you can just bring the MPM or APM, any other SolarWinds product, and immediately you can start seeing the traffic coming in.
The deployment is fast and easy.
It doesn't cost too much.

View full review »The most valuable feature is the ability to look for any increases in bandwidth over time so that we can plan before it becomes critical. We have our threshold set at 80%, which means that when we hit that capacity, it's time to start looking at things like whether there is a problem in the network or whether an increase in bandwidth needs to take place. Essentially, it gives us a tool where we can manage our business proactively instead of reactively.
I have 19 direct reports that use this product.

View full review »In the case of ThousandEyes, the feature I've found most valuable is that it is an active synthetic monitoring tool. It provides per-hub packet loss latency information across the private and public internet. This provides us with capability outside our network.
SolarWinds is traditional. It's old school and SNMP-based. It provides event-triggered alarms. We rely on the features to monitor our network device to see if it is online or not. It tells us if the interface is down or up or if the device is down or up.

In terms of the implementation, we've actually used SAM, the server and application monitoring tools. The network configuration tools are very useful in terms of bulk upgrading switches and infrastructure. Also, the Network Traffic Analyzer was extremely useful to track down errant users soaking up bandwidth.
Quite a lot of our internal investigations are actually using the Network Traffic Analyzer to find out which computers are soaking up the network bandwidth.
View full review »The solution's most valuable feature is the network monitoring system. As it offers enterprise solutions, it has all the essential features for business.

We have been using this solution for many years, and we don't have any problem with this solution.
Everything is done in the Orion Suite, so you can look there to find dashboards and reports.
The integration with other SolarWinds products is good. It works well in combination with the other tools.

It's a fantastic product overall, so it is difficult to define one feature being the best.
It is fantastic to know the Traffic Analyzer can show us where the potential problems are. You become very familiar with the bandwidth being consumed by different lines and how all the traffic is moving between different departments and different applications.
At times, we faced a lot of issues with users on the internet because of the consumption of the bandwidth. It was very hard to try to find exactly what was going on and what applications affected traffic. With SolarWinds, we are now able to accurately gauge bandwidth consumption.
