Training has improved staff security awareness but needs more AI-focused content
Pros and Cons
  • "Regarding scalability and adding more users, Huntress Managed Security Awareness Training has performed well."
  • "More AI-related trainings would be beneficial."

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case is fulfilling strict European compliance and regulatory requirements. I use Huntress Security Awareness Training to ensure our employees are thoroughly trained in GDPR compliance, general cybersecurity best practices, and secure AI usage.

What is most valuable?

The quality and depth of the training content stands out the most. Having previously used KnowBe4, I initially just wanted a basic solution to check a compliance box. However, Huntress goes well beyond the bare minimum. Instead of employees just doing the minimum to pass, the training is genuinely engaging and drives actual learning. It actively elevates our team's overall security maturity rather than just fulfilling a mandatory requirement.

What needs improvement?

Overall, the platform works great and exceeds my expectations, but one area for future growth would be expanding the library of AI-related training modules. Since AI adoption is growing rapidly in the workplace while general security maturity around it remains low, adding more specific courses on AI risks and best practices would be highly valuable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Huntress Managed Security Awareness Training quite recently for a couple of months ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solutions is good. It loads instantly and there's no lagging, crashing, or downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Adding more users seems very feasible, but there is one notable friction point regarding the end-user experience as we scale.

  • Domain Redirection Confusion: When users log in through huntress.com to take their security training, they are redirected to a completely different URL (mycurricula.com). Ironically, for a security awareness platform, this triggers red flags for end-users who think they might be on a phishing site. I had to send out internal communications clarifying that both domains are legitimate and owned by the same company. As we scale and add more users, managing this confusion is a slight headache.
  • Backend Architecture Unknowns: From a technical standpoint, I am not entirely sure how their backend escalation process works. If Huntress is utilizing modern cloud auto-scaling (like AWS), I have absolutely zero worries about the platform handling our growth. However, if their architecture relies on spinning up and managing separate instances for each client, we might run into some growing pains down the line. For now, though, it is working fine.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted the technical support or customer support for Huntress Managed Security Awareness Training myself.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used KnowBe4, which we had been using since 2022. While we had a lot of experience with it, we ultimately decided to move to Huntress for a few key reasons:

  • Better Training Quality and Engagement: With KnowBe4, the training videos felt very generic. It was too easy for users to just click through the modules, check the compliance box, and not actually retain anything. Huntress is the exact opposite; they make the training genuinely fun. They use high-quality, cartoon-style animations which drastically improves user engagement and encourages people to actually watch the content.
  • Direct Vendor Relationship: We originally purchased KnowBe4 through a third-party MSP. When we decided to part ways with that third-party provider, we wanted to manage our KnowBe4 licensing directly. However, we learned that KnowBe4 doesn't allow that; you are forced to go through a reseller. Huntress allows us to purchase and manage the platform directly, which was a huge selling point for us.
  • Included Managed Services: Huntress includes fully managed training programs at no extra cost. They create, curate, and update the training programs themselves, and all we have to do is assign our users to them. We fully expected to pay a premium for a "managed" service tier, but it was completely included.

Combined with the fact that Huntress was actually cheaper than what we were paying for KnowBe4, making the switch was an incredibly easy decision.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was incredibly straightforward. I was actually the internal champion who evaluated Huntress, made the decision to purchase it, and handled the deployment for our organization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am very happy with the pricing. During the evaluation process, I was completely transparent with Huntress about what we were paying our previous provider. I explained that to get internal approval for a vendor switch, the new solution had to cost the exact same or less.

Huntress actually came in at a lower price point than our previous provider. While I don't handle the finance side directly, finding a platform that delivered better features while coming in under budget made getting the final executive approval incredibly easy. It offers excellent value.

What other advice do I have?

I am still exploring the platform's automated behavioral targeting features, as I currently prefer a hands-on approach to profiling and targeting specific risks. Right now, my primary focus for our team is on secure AI practices and safe prompt engineering.

While I am not sure if Huntress has a pre-built managed program specifically for this yet, what stands out to me is the flexibility to build it myself. Having the ability to easily create and assign custom training programs based on the specific behaviors I believe are most critical to our organization has been life-changing.

As the cybersecurity and risk management specialist for my company, I don't necessarily need a vendor's fully managed service to dictate our training tracks. I prefer doing this myself. The fact that Huntress gives me the autonomy to specifically target the exact behaviors relevant to our team—and allows me to do so without charging extra for managed services—makes it a perfect fit for my workflow.

My overall rating for this solution is ten out of ten.

Customizable learning pathways and phishing simulations contribute to user training and security awareness
Pros and Cons
  • "I like that it provides a customizable learning pathway, allowing me to both use preset tracks and customize them if I wish."
  • "I rate the solution nine out of ten."
  • "It is somewhat confusing at first, especially for onboarding."
  • "It is somewhat confusing at first, especially for onboarding. The existing complexity is partly because the product wasn't built from the ground up by Huntress, which might contribute to certain elements lacking Huntress's typical simplicity."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution to provide security awareness training to my clients, which includes each of the end users.

What is most valuable?

I like that it provides a customizable learning pathway, allowing me to both use preset tracks and customize them if I wish. The phishing simulations are valuable as they allow end users to understand their mistakes without real-world consequences. This solution helps train users on what to look for in security threats, contributing to the prevention of user errors that may lead to breaches.

What needs improvement?

It is somewhat confusing at first, especially for onboarding. The existing complexity is partly because the product wasn't built from the ground up by Huntress, which might contribute to certain elements lacking Huntress's typical simplicity.

For how long have I used the solution?

I signed onto it at the same time as ITDR.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The hosting site for learning pathways has always been stable and readily available when needed.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted customer service for this solution, however, I expect it to be great as it is the same as with other Huntress products.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I researched KnowBe4 but did not choose it because Huntress is more MSP-friendly and provides more value. I decided against adding another vendor since I was already signing up for the ITDR with Huntress.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up on the dashboard is straightforward, but getting client buy-in takes longer. It typically involves a meeting to explain the purpose and need for the training.

What about the implementation team?

It's possible to set it up independently without involvement from Huntress or third-party assistance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is good. Huntress is willing to discuss the price for those interested in their entire stack. Pricing is reasonable enough to maintain profitability for them.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated KnowBe4 but chose not to use it as Huntress is better suited for MSPs and offers better value for money.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution nine out of ten.

I appreciate that the learning pathways and materials are produced by the team at Huntress and not AI-generated. These personalized elements make the training engaging, preventing it from being just a series of boring slides.
