We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature for me is that it works on multiple platforms and technologies.""Micro Focus UFT One gives us integration capabilities with both API and GUI components. I like the user interface. It doesn't require that much skill to use and has automatic settings, which is useful for users who don't know what to select. It also has dark and light themes.""It's not only web-based but also for backend applications; you can also do the integration of the applications.""I like the fact that we can use LeanFT with our UFT licenses as well.""The solution has good out-of-the-box protocols.""I like the Help feature in UFT One. For example, if you are navigating a particular window, where there are different options. One wouldn’t know the purpose of every option, but there is no need to search because that window contains a Help button. If you click on that Help button, it directly navigates to the respective help needed. VBScript is very easy to understand and easy to prepare scripts with minimal learning curve.""It is a stable solution.""I find UFT One to be very good for thick clients, which are non-browser applications."

"The way it identifies elements is good.""The performance and load testing are very good.""The most valuable aspects of the solution are the font, size, and interface.""Has a very smooth process for launching and closing the application after execution.""Before using Telerik Test Studio, I was a manual tester, so it was my first automation tool, yet I felt very comfortable using it. I've used the record and play feature, and Telerik Test Studio was easy to use. The tool was easy to understand, even for a first-time user like me."

More Telerik Test Studio Pros →

"The user interface is very friendly.""What I like most about Visual Studio Test Professional is the way people publish templates and publish integration.""The initial setup is easy. It's easy to configure.""One of the best documentation in the world.""The stability has always been very good.""It is a very common and strong product. A lot of support is available for this product.""We are satisfied with technical support. Communicating with them is very simple. We also have a lot of online resources to check and to study and to train our team with. The documentation is very clear and readily available.""Its initial setup process is easy."

Cons
"I'd like to see UFT integrated more with some of the open source tools like Selenium, where web is involved.""Scripting has become more complex from a maintenance standpoint to support additional browsers.""The solution does not have proper scripting.""Object identification has room for improvement, to make it more efficient.""It should consume less CPU, and the licensing cost could be lower.""The product should evolve to be flexible so one can use any programming language such as Java and C#, and not just VB script.""They should include an automated feature to load backlog tests.""[Tech support is] not a 10 because what happens with some of our issues is that we might not get a patch quickly and we have to hold on to an application until we get a proper solution."

More OpenText UFT One Cons →

"It can be improved by including a feature that allows multiple file types to be selected simultaneously.""Its UI is not very user-friendly and could be improved. For new users, it isn't easy.""There are some compatibility issues with the load standpoint test.""The charts need to be more detailed and customizable.""I observed that the Excel and Word validation was quite challenging, which is an area for improvement in the tool. I also experienced minor difficulties with Telerik Test Studio, particularly in fetching elements in some scenarios when using C# for coding."

More Telerik Test Studio Cons →

"There are too many features with the product and I would like there to be less.""The integration with Git needs improving because it is a bit disjointed and unpredictable.""In Visual Studio we still don't have anything which can pinpoint memory leaks on a certain code line.""Over the years, I haven't identified any specific enhancements that I desire; Visual Studio has consistently met my requirements seamlessly and flawlessly.""The vendor must release a lightweight version of the solution.""Visual Studio Test Professional should include more automation.""The interface should be made attractive.""The solution can improve the startup time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."
  • More OpenText UFT One Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing is fair so I rate it an eight out of ten."
  • More Telerik Test Studio Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "For the cloud services option, you buy a subscription per account or per user. This costs around $52 a month per person."
  • "I think that the pricing is quite good."
  • "The pricing is expensive."
  • "We pay for the solution annually and the price could be reduced."
  • "There is a paid version of the solution as well as a community version that is free."
  • "Visual Studio Test Professional is a very expensive solution."
  • "The tool is expensive in my region."
  • "We pay a yearly licensing fee for Visual Studio Test Professional, which is expensive."

Visual Studio Professional Edition provides an IDE for all supported development languages. As of Visual Studio 2010, the Standard edition was dropped. MSDN support is available as MSDN Essentials or the full MSDN library depending on licensing. It supports XML and XSLT editing, and can create deployment packages that only use ClickOnce and MSI. It includes tools like Server Explorer and integration with Microsoft SQL Server also. Windows Mobile development support was included in Visual Studio 2005 Standard, however, with Visual Studio 2008, it is only available in Professional and higher editions. Windows Phone 7 development support was added to all editions in Visual Studio 2010. Development for Windows Mobile is no longer supported in Visual Studio 2010; it is superseded by Windows Phone 7.
