We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Overall IBM ProtectTIER is a great solution. It is easy to use.""In terms of stability, I've found it to be very stable. I've walked into the server room when it was at 60 degrees Celcius, and it was still running fine.""The solution is highly stable.""The command-line interface is good.""The cataloging is the best feature. It takes millions of frames for the backup. It's incremental, so it takes less time to complete.""The most valuable features are the Self-Service, and the ability to search the data."

"The most valuable feature of this solution is the centralized enterprise backup.""With Spectrum Protect, you can use any type of disk to back-end the repositories. It gave us flexibility to use whatever storage we wanted at our secondary site.""Incremental forever: This feature helps us reduce backup time and backup storage space.""Our performance is better.""It provides our customers with the comfort of having reliable enterprise data protection.""The backup is very good. In other backup systems, you need a lot of storage to gain the same backup policy.""Traditional archiving. One of our revenue streams involves maintaining archives of our customers' data for very long periods of time.""You can scale the product."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Pros →

"Snapshot and Data Guard Manager are awesome features.""The solution has been stable so far.""Technical support is very good. If at any time we write a ticket, we get the appropriate answer on time.""We use Data Guard for online replication from data center, to data center for high availability. This is the most important feature.""The most valuable feature is the flashback standby, which allows us to test without scrapping the database.""Oracle Data Guard has a nice feature called the DataGuard snapshot to open the solution in the read-write mode and make some changes to the database.""It's a very good solution if you want to protect your data across two data centers, or you have a middle man or many administrators who use these solutions for protecting their data. It's very reliable compared to other solutions that are most often not storage-based.""Data Guard also improved because customers with an active Data Guard license want to reduce the I/O in a production environment. Some application complaints to it for Oracle reporting purposes. It has a production environment that needs to be enhanced."

Cons
"The configuration wizards are still complex and hard to navigate. These should be easier to manage.""I would like the possibility to back up the infrastructure and then replicate it upon on restart, without having to orchestrate the starting of the VM.""The backup for a large amount of data is slow.""IBM ProtectTIER could improve by being more user-friendly.""Setting up the system to work with legacy equipment is a bit complex at times."

More IBM ProtectTIER Cons →

"Sometimes we experience trouble with the backup transfer of the control files.""Probably educating the virtual group who are not as used to the product. Most of our expertise is with AIX servers and virtual server backups.""We did not see any drawbacks to IBM Spectrum Protect before assisting a customer using Windows that wanted to migrate to using UNIX. IBM Spectrum Protect does not offer an option to migrate from other operating systems.""There have been scalability issues. The core product does not support scale out. We needed to create a new system and manage resources separate from the existing one.""I would love to see something which allows us to do an auto restart of backup jobs.""I want to see better compression than what it currently does.""It seems like they are a little behind on the integration to Azure Cloud as well as Amazon.""This product should be more user-friendly for newcomers."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Cons →

"I think it would be great to have a graphical interface assistant (like DBCA, ASMCA, NETCA, etc.) for initial configuration, monitoring, configuring Oracle Data Guard Broker and all the Data Guard Broker commands, without needing Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control installed.""The product could improve its pricing.""One thing that can be improved is the GUI. It would be good to have a very nice GUI to easily configure and administer, providing different presentations to the database administrator. The feature that can be included is the integration with third-party monitoring systems, that is, monitoring systems from other vendors, not only from Oracle.""Sometimes, the technical support team takes time to respond.""They may need to include the monitoring and the alerting part in Data Guard.""There is an issue with their application on ODG. There were a lot of edits in the logs. Sometimes, we only get a little cue from the Data Guard Broker logs if there's an issue.""It is a very useful administrative IT tool. It saves on costs.""The implementation is complex for anyone who's jumping into it without any experience. It's all command-line driven implementations. For some, that's a turn-off."
