We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most important feature is that everything can be controlled using a single console.""In the VM, we have Live Recovery, Live Mount, and Live Sync.""Commvault is very simple to use and it is automated.""The email archiving feature is very smooth and better than others.""The backup and restore capabilities are key. The most useful things to us about Commvault, in general, is the breadth of the applications that it can protect as well as the features inside of it, like deduplication and encryption. When people get their data encrypted, Commvault has a way to tell if somebody is being attacked through a cybersecurity threat because their data changes. So, Commvault has what they call honeypot files out there to look to see if anybody is changing these files. Only Commvault knows which files those are, so nobody should be messing with those files. If it changes, then it will alert you to say, "Oh, I potentially have somebody messing with my files." It will alert you to something going on in your environment that probably shouldn't be happening. We deploy that with all our customers so they have this capability as well.""The recovery features are useful. It is easy to recover data. If something happens, we can easily recover data. We have faced ransomware issues twice, and we recovered because of Commvault.""There's no impact on the endpoint. It runs in the background and it's something that you install and then forget about.""In terms of the speed of backup, it operates seamlessly, so I'd rate it as excellent... with my daily use and workload, quite honestly I don't even notice when it backs up."

"IBM StoredIQ Suite helps to address problems like data discovery, records management, compliance activities, storage optimization, and data migration initiatives."

"Uploading the documents is super easy. You just throw it in a zip, and unless it's a PST, then you can throw it in directly.""The most valuable feature which I found was that it was very user-friendly. It's a very new age-friendly tech for uploading the data into the software. It also has a wonderful representation of data in terms of dashboards and pivot charts where you get your data represented in various angles and projections."

Cons
"For simpler environments, they have some templates for startups. Possibly for a smaller environment, they need to do more automatic configuration and selections of users who want to do backups. This is mainly for smaller environments. I would like them to have the same system fit for all environments: small and big environments. Currently, we have to do a lot of configuration of the layout, which takes time. This solution is appropriate for enterprise-level enterprise, but I would like it to be easier to use for SMB environments.""You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components.""Our customers complain that this is a difficult product to manage.""Our main pain point is that some of our hardware is old. For example, the SSD disks for our application database are slow. It's hard to avoid a slowdown in our environment because the size of our backups is growing every year. If you're growing and don't upgrade the environment, you will see slower backups and restores. You must enhance the environment if you are growing.""It would be a bit unfair to say that it's complex, due to the fact that it supports so many different workloads, however, if there's anything that is a bit of a shortcoming, then it's the fact that there's a bit of complexity involved when dealing with the product.""I would like them to keep working on the new web interface to migrate out of the old interface because the old interface is a bit complex. It was driving customers away because of the complexity. If they migrate everything (100 percent of the features), this would make the product be perfect.""The interface could be improved because it has two different consoles.""There is room for improvement in terms of data security."

More Commvault Cloud Cons →

"The product was born and designed to be used inside the IT department, but it would be improved by allowing end-users to search for info related to specific needs."

More IBM StoredIQ Cons →

"It would be better if they could include a technology-assisted review feature, which brings artificial intelligence into the cloud and the system itself. It would be great savings in terms of time and costs as you won't have a person manually going into a dense asset of documents and doing it.""The guys over at Logikcull will do everything possible to avoid a screen-share — they do everything via text."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."

    Information Not Available
  • "Logikcull is very expensive. I wish it were less expensive."
  • "The cost depends on the case size of the data and the number of projects they're expecting to encounter. If it's small to medium-sized, this tool will be very good because it has a pay-as-you-go feature instead of an hourly billing rate, where they bill you every hour, and you have to go through the structure from beginning to end."
