Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features are the enterprise modeling and the simple interface.""The initial setup is straightforward.""It's great for capturing the traffic and troubleshooting it.""Virtual Domains (VDOMs) are a feature that we found valuable.""The solution is extremely reliable.""It has very easy management and an amazing ETM configuration.""FortiGate has a very strong unified threat management system.""Overall security features and performance routing is good."

"The most valuable features are DNS service and shell self-service within a network.""The VPN was valuable for us because more people are working from home. It has a lot of reporting and easy-to-use management tools.""The stability of this solution is excellent.""The solution effectively integrates with Umbrella.""The capabilities for scalability with this product are huge""The solution is stable.""The most valuable feature is the scalability. The nice thing with the bigger vendors is that they're very good at scale.""The most valuable feature is endpoint protection."

"Even after restarting, it tries to quickly reestablish connection which is very helpful.""It helps to quickly get access to the pages I need.""The setup is really easy...I rate the support team a ten out of ten.""The ease of use not only translates to quick adoption rates - it also ensures that our employees remain compliant with our cybersecurity protocols, enhancing the overall security posture of our organization.""Distributing the agent was very simple, allowing us to enforce security posture on our devices (i.e. S1, Disk-encryption, etc.).""The feature that I have found to be most valuable is the reputation that the company has regarding privacy. Nowadays, this is critical, especially when you do all of your work online.""Perimeter 81 is very pretty.""Scaling Perimeter 81 was easy to do."

Cons
"This product needs to have an analysis feature, rather than having the analysis done through the integration of a different product.""It would be a benefit if Fortinet would release a one-stop solution that is better integrated with other products and an automated emergency response system.""I haven't had a single issue since using Fortinet.""The web-cache feature which was previously on the FortiGate device, but was deleted with the recent upgrade should be returned. It was a very valuable feature for us.""We would like to see an upgrade to the VPN feature, we are using the VPN from outside of our office and there is a limitation to 10 connections, more connections would be suitable.""They are doing good, but they can improve the distributor assignment. The availability of the product and the timeline of delivery are the main things. The distribution should be swift, and the distributor should not reach out to end customers directly. They should work as a distributor. There should also be one more local distributor. Currently, there is only one distributor in Pakistan, and the rest of them are in UAE. It is difficult to work with only one distributor. Sometimes, you don't get along with the same distributor, and that's why they should have one more distributor. Their licensing should also be improved. The activation or renewal of the product should be done from the date of renewal, not from the date on which the license expired.""There are some problems that support cannot give you a logical reason as to why it happened. For example, I had a case where I was dealing with a WhatsApp application that was giving issues. Technical support gave more than one reason it could be giving issues, but none of them solved the problem. Eventually I solved the problem, but it was far from the solutions that support had given.""The firmware needs improvement because there are bugs when a new release comes through. Sometimes, the configuration changes, and it's a bit harder to see where the fail is. The first time that you have the firmware, it tends to have some issues, and it's better to wait a bit to update the equipment."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"We faced significant challenges related to licensing issues, particularly when licenses expire.""Cisco is a scalable product, but it is expensive compared to other vendors.""The pricing is the only con for this product.""I think setup could be one area for improvement, because sometimes we don't have people inside so we have to move to the place.""There could be a bit more functions on offer that could make it easier to use.""The solution is not user friendly and it is hard to manage the GUI interface.""The graphical user interface or the GUI could be better. Beginners can use some devices with the GUI, but some security devices are configured using CLI. It would also be better if it had its own Intrusion Protection Service and Intrusion Detection Service on the server.""The user interface needs to be improved."

More Cisco IOS Security Cons →

"One of the more negative experiences using Perimeter 81 is the fact that I am logged off after a pre-determined amount of time which cuts off access to some of my company's resources.""It would be nice to have a notification sound when Perimeter81 disconnects, as I sometimes don't notice when the icon shows that it's disconnected, and I end up wasting time waiting for my browser to load a page that shows an error, usually error 404.""A Google Chrome extension would be handy instead of logging into the app.""Perimeter 81 could enhance its reporting and analytics capabilities to provide more detailed insights into network activity.""The solution's speed of upload and download is an area where it lacks""I don't know if it is technically feasible, however, if the Desktop App could be used as a Web App or a Chrome Extension it would be very nice.""What would be useful would be a notification/warning that a session is due to timeout after exceeding the default connection limit.""I have found that the log-in/out process takes quite some time."
