Helps to manage cloud traffic locally without routing it through data centers
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the tool's ability to manage cloud traffic locally without routing it through our data centers."
  • "The product needs to improve technical support."

What is most valuable?

I like the tool's ability to manage cloud traffic locally without routing it through our data centers.

What needs improvement?

The product needs to improve technical support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for four years.

How are customer service and support?

The tool's support has been excellent. We can maintain our Check Point Firewalls effectively, both on-premises and in the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool's monthly costs have undergone a significant reduction, dropping from approximately 12,000 euros to around 4,000. This represents a cost reduction of over 60 percent. However, it's essential to note that while costs decreased in some areas, they increased in others due to shifts in our environment. As our overall environment has grown, currently connecting 50 accounts to the cloud, it's challenging to directly compare costs with the state of our setup three years ago.

What other advice do I have?

Initially, we faced some challenges, especially with the AWS transit gateway, involving manual routing configurations and complex setup tasks. I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.

Dynamic and scalable but improvement is needed in integration feature
Pros and Cons
  • "The Identity Awareness blade and dynamic tagging in Azure are valuable because they make access management automatic. Instead of manually setting up access for each new resource, it happens automatically based on the same access policy. This dynamic setup is scalable."
  • "Regarding CloudGuard Network Security's integration with various resources like application gateways and application-based security groups, there's room for exploring dynamic access in those areas. A significant concern is the upgrade process. Unlike an in-place upgrade, upgrading the tool in Azure requires deploying a new resource, which can be hectic and less reliable. We have to spend something new to have the tool's latest version."

What is our primary use case?

For the Azure platform, especially Azure endpoint protections and other network aspects, we utilize CloudGuard Network Security to secure the egress connection. This includes configuring and maintaining express route connectivity between on-premises and Azure.

What is most valuable?

The Identity Awareness blade and dynamic tagging in Azure are valuable because they make access management automatic. Instead of manually setting up access for each new resource, it happens automatically based on the same access policy. This dynamic setup is scalable.

The tool is cloud-based and scalable. As our resources scale up or down, the system automatically adapts. This reduces the need for manual work, allowing us to manage the entire cloud infrastructure with a smaller workforce. It helps with automation.

What needs improvement?

Regarding CloudGuard Network Security's integration with various resources like application gateways and application-based security groups, there's room for exploring dynamic access in those areas. A significant concern is the upgrade process. Unlike an in-place upgrade, upgrading the tool in Azure requires deploying a new resource, which can be hectic and less reliable. We have to spend something new to have the tool's latest version.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is generally good, and I don't have many complaints due to its scalability. When there are hardware issues, it automatically sets up a new, healthy instance. Overall, it contributes to a stable environment for us.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's scalability is excellent, but we do encounter some restrictions with the API on the cloud platform. This occasionally causes issues with the frequent pulling up of new resources.

How was the initial setup?

Our deployment model involves VM scale sets. We have set up instances across three environments: production, staging, and development. This structure allows for easy testing in the development environment before moving on to the production environment. We utilize Check Point's professional services to integrate, deploy, and build a cloud platform for CloudGuard Network Security.

What was our ROI?

We have seen a return on investment from CloudGuard Network Security. As more workloads shift from on-premises to the product, the costs associated with on-premises infrastructure decrease. Additionally, its dynamic and scalable nature in Azure allows us to maintain control.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's licensing is based on the number of users of the VMs. We follow a pay-as-you-go model. Its pricing is competitive.

What other advice do I have?

CloudGuard Network Security can manage security for both our hybrid cloud and on-premises systems. Currently, we have separate solutions for on-premises and the cloud. We also use Smart-1 Cloud from the Infinity portal. We haven't integrated the tool with both Azure and on-prem environments.

I have about an eight out of ten confidence level in our cloud network security with the product. It is because of Azurre's robust and dynamic nature. It is easy to incorporate anything new that comes up. We can integrate any new steps in Azure concerning the blades, CloudGuard Network Security, and Check Point.

Cloud-native firewalls lack functionalities such as IPS, which are exclusive to products like Check Point or other vendor-specific solutions. This is why we opted for CloudGuard Network Security as an additional layer, complementing the limitations of Azure's native or any cloud-native firewalls.

We are already using Check Point for our on-prem environment. The cloud solution was easy to integrate with our existing infrastructure.

I rate the overall product a six out of ten. Due to certain limitations in the integration between Azure and CloudGuard Network Security, I currently rate the experience as a six. However, I'm hopeful that Check Point is working on its new release.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

An easy-to-navigate tool useful for filtering internet traffic that needs to improve its deployment speed
Pros and Cons
  • "It is a good-to-use tool that is also flexible."
  • "The deployment phase takes too much time."

What is our primary use case?

In my company, we use the solution just to secure my AWS Network Insights and inside production. We use it for security purposes.

What is most valuable?

With the solution, we just need to filter the traffic coming from the internet and Direct Connect. So it filters the traffic, basically. It permits access. In short, it just filters the traffic and permits the traffic. The aforementioned details are the purposes for which we use the tool.

What needs improvement?

We use the tool as a basic firewall. It's a technical firewall. As a technical firewall, we use SmartConsole or Check Point Firewall.

The deployment phase takes too much time. I would like the deployment to be faster.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Check Point CloudGuard Network Security for two and a half years. We are using Check Point R80.10 SmartConsole in our organization.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten since it takes too much time for deployment. However, it is flexible since we used to push the policy normally. It takes hardly ten seconds to install the policy. It's much easier.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have been using the solution in my company for the last year. Other than the employees in my company, more than 25,000 users are using the solution hosted on AWS.

Basically, the application, which is hosted, is used internally. It's the same user account because it's not exposed anywhere on the internet. If anyone wants to access the solution from the internet, the traffic comes from Direct Connect, and from Direct Connect, it goes to AWS.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not much complex. The setup phase was good enough to be able to navigate through it.

It took a long time to deploy it. We need to run this on EC2 instances, so it took almost two hours to deploy the solution. After deploying the solution slowly, and gradually, we have to push the policy on the firewall. It takes time to deploy, but it's a stable one.

The solution is deployed on the cloud. It's a software we install in EC2 instances on AWS, which we use as a firewall.

We currently have six to seven resources managing the deployments and maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

During deployment, we took technical help from Check Point.

What other advice do I have?

It is a good-to-use tool that is also flexible.

Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Easy to manage and implement with simple configuration capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the main characteristics that Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has given us is granularity and visibility."
  • "It is somewhat problematic in the area of the cloud."

What is our primary use case?

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security helps resolve potential regulatory and compliance issues when moving to the cloud. The high-visibility rule base's granular approach helps us with potential security leaks and highlights items to focus on for immediate action.

The functionality that we're using it for is the cloud firewall piece.

For this reason, it was necessary to implement this tool in our organization and the results have been very positive, providing the necessary security throughout the infrastructure.

How has it helped my organization?

One of the main characteristics that Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has given us is granularity and visibility. The data that enters our Azure environment integrates in a great way in the cloud and in on-premises. This is important for the alerts and the response to incidents that arise in our platform in the cloud, for the moment, we are very satisfied to have acquired this solution and to have implemented it in the cloud and with other systems on-premise that have given us a lot of security and peace of mind.

What is most valuable?

One of the features that I liked the most and that I feel is very useful is auto-scaling. Our Azure cloud environment is constantly growing and this allows us to expand as well.

Another very accurate feature is CloudGuard's malware prevention and exploit resistance rate and they have given us a lot of security since the database is very large.

It is easy to manage CloudGuard from on-premises and offers the same protection as we can provide to the rest of our environments, which is a great advantage for us.

What needs improvement?

One of the areas that should be improved is the updates of the products. It is somewhat problematic in the area of the cloud. In the case of migration from on-premise to the cloud, it is difficult to replace the licenses. It should be something very transparent and thus save us the time to go to support but in general, the tool is shared very well in security and protection of privacy and if they are lucky they can add more features that help us our security would be great they should always be one step ahead of cyberattacks.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have implemented it two year ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security maintains very good stability, and, best of all, maintains excellent compatibility with Azure.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is great. You can make a network scale up or down. This allows you to have good control of bandwidth in the organization or to be able to distribute it in the different departments of the company.

How are customer service and support?

Currently, since the implementation, not much support has been used, therefore, I rate it as excellent.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The Check Point brand has always been used in our organization.

How was the initial setup?

The configuration was very simple since the tool and the wizard are very interactive and user-friendly. It was not very difficult to do the installation and configuration.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation started with a vendor and the IT team. The engineer that worked with us presented great knowledge of the product.

What was our ROI?

By using a tool of this type, the cost of personnel decreases since the tool performs quite well with the functions that it was designed for.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price and the licenses have been good. They maintain a competitive price with the other companies.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Other options were not evaluated as we like to keep the same brand across solutions.

What other advice do I have?

When doing a cloud deployment, remember you are doing this in the cloud so treat it like a cloud device, as good configuration brings good results.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

Network protection, assessments, and best practices for cloud networks.
Pros and Cons
  • "It really is a pretty complete solution."
  • "At the cost level, the solution is somewhat expensive."

What is our primary use case?

We have infrastructure in both Microsoft Azure and on-premise. We wanted to centralize an environment of governance, control, and best practices, at the level of Microsoft Azure. We were able to implement Defender for the cloud at some point. However, we already had security products from Check Point. The idea was to centralize all our tools in the same environment to make it easier to support administration.

With Check Point CloudGuard we have been able to successfully implement a layer of protection for our cloud and our on-premise environments.

How has it helped my organization?

With Check Point CloudGuard Network Security, we have been able to provide advanced security and security in the Azure network in addition to all the security additions associated with Check Point which are very important. Each one provides a role or complements the security of the company.

The panel or score can help evaluate the reality of our cloud and hybrid infrastructure. It has an excellent capability. The Check Point blueprint has taken us to the next level of protection.

It really is a pretty complete solution.

What is most valuable?

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security is complemented with all the features and becomes a security giant. The most important features, at least for us, are:

1 - It allows for the implementation of centralized security through Check Point Infinity in addition to being able to manage the security of hybrid and cloud environments.

2 - The trust and security provided by advanced threat protection is a point of distinction. We have not seen any false positives. Its anti-malware prevention is very good, and protection against ransomware is one of the features we require for our infrastructure.

3 - Additionally, it can be integrated with most public clouds, making it attractive.

What needs improvement?

There are a few features or improvements that can be mentioned. One of them may be that the Infinity Portal is sometimes slow. A performance improvement could improve the administrator's perspective.

At the cost level, the solution is somewhat expensive. They could have an improvement to be a more feasible solution for everyone.

The support must improve. It is the biggest issue that Check Point currently has. Sometimes it is better to investigate oneself than to wait for a solution from the support department.

For how long have I used the solution?

We implemented this tool a few months ago to be able to validate the security associated with our cloud environment. In this case, we implemented against Microsoft Azure.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Yes

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Yes

How are customer service and support?

Great.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used Microsoft Defender for a cloud solution. It's a very good tool, however, Microsoft is new in this field.

What about the implementation team?

It was carried out internally and was a positive experience.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is definitely important to test the tool before defining it in a production environment. It is also good to know the costs with a professional.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Previously we checked to see if we could stay with Microsoft Defender for Cloud. However, we opted for a centralized environment with more security muscle of its own.

What other advice do I have?

It is one of the best solutions on the market. I challenge you to try it so you can say the same.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure
