Veritas NetBackup Appliance Valuable Features

One of the most useful features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is the Web UI, which is a monitoring tool where you monitor all your backups. The second feature is immutability where you apply immutability on your backup data, and then we also have that on NetBackup. On Flex, we have Flex instances whereby you can deploy different instances of master media as desired. The Web UI is the interface where you log in and administer all the backups. One of the key components of the Web UI is the activity monitor, which shows all the jobs that are happening on the appliance.
The deduplication technology in Veritas NetBackup Appliance is one of the key features which is very beneficial to users who have large data that is similar in terms of file extensions. The DDB is actually a key feature that most customers look at when making their purchase.

We use all the features of NetBackup Appliance. The most significant benefit has been the time to restore. Depending on the level of loss, I can instantiate a new version of the application and run it directly from the backup appliance while building alternative infrastructure.
View full review »The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well.
NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month.
It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

The most valuable features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance include extension syncing, making copies of the data, expiring images, replication, and speed. These features are very useful. The biggest advantage is that I do not need to manage backups on traditional tapes, which helps maintain total business continuity.
View full review »The Veritas NetBackup Appliance is convenient because it’s a portable device and doesn’t require a lot of additional hardware or licenses like VPN solutions.
We haven’t activated all the features yet because the service provider needs to do it. For now, we’re focusing on getting familiar with the system before activating additional features. The system notifies us if backups aren’t detected, which helps us stay on top of things. Regarding duplication, it works well with snapshots and replicated files on NAS. Compared to DPM, it’s much more efficient and doesn’t have virus attack issues.

We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up.
It's a robust solution, and it is very strong indeed. In 2020, we faced the challenge of losing the catalog. We recovered the catalog using tape, which was crucial for restoring our backups. This feature stands out to me as one of the most valuable aspects of the solution.

The NetBackup appliance features customized software that is designed for storage.
View full review »We can add multiple appliances to the product. They are all interconnected. It is a valuable feature. The product provides security to our data. The data is encrypted from the client side all the way to the data source. With ransomware breaching a lot of organization's data, we need stability and sustainability in the environment. It provides good data protection and data governance.
View full review »I connect these Veritas NetBackup Appliance because they are highly stable and stronger. Therefore, we don't require so much maintenance to use these appliances. The integration of these appliances requires some maintenance, but they are known for their strength and stability.
In our organization, we like the flexibility of the solution. We have a very complex IT environment, and we are able to cover it from physical appliances and servers to virtual environments and different OS. It managed to cover it all.
The most valuable features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance are the ease of use and the familiar interface.

I like the solution. It works well.
The integration to the VMware environment is good.
The documentation is okay. You are able to follow it and it is helpful.
One big feature which we really like is that it is a little bit immutable. There are a couple of storage locations.
View full review »It has a lot of very good features. The virtual tape library (VTL) feature is most valuable. Overall, it is easy to use.
View full review »I personally find Veritas NetBackup Appliance hassle-free. All that is needed is a web control or Java control to operate the NetBackup software, and I don't need to take care of anything else.
The other valuable feature is the performance. When we deploy to a server and install network software on it, there is a lot to take care of. With Appliance, everything is on the go and is already pre-installed and fine-tuned. It already matches the performance and metrics. It is great for replication, network performance, CPU performance, and storage performance.

There are a lot of new features that operate to protect the data from ransomware attacks. They launched the Veritas/Appliances to protect our data. Veritas has been doing its job well.
View full review »The most valuable feature involves VMware Instant Recovery, which allows one to do restoration within seconds. It is very nice. We use it a lot for restoring VM.
The reporting is very good compared to other tools. Even though Commvault has some better features, the Veeam/Veritas center is a very good feature; it's really helpful for our reporting purposes. To clarify, I am referring to Veeam and Veritas NetBackup, as we have applied them both.

The deduplication that is on this solution is its most valuable aspect. It's very robust.
Overall, how the operating system is tuned is perfect.
The hardware on offer has no parallel. I would say that it has been more than eight years now, and in all that time, I haven't had a single hard disk failure or even hardware failure on this appliance. It's in excellent condition and works perfectly.
I can confidently say that I have managed more than 30 or 50 appliances over different time periods, and yet I never had a single hardware failure.
View full review »I'm not extremely technical, so I'm not sure if I could discuss the benefits of certain features in great detail.
The solution overall has all the features we need.
The pricing is pretty good. We don't find it to be too expensive for us.
The solution is pretty easy to use. Users can easily learn as they go. There are other solutions on the market which are much more difficult. Some, like IBM, need specialists to handle them. That's not the case with NetBackup.
The solution has a very easy-to-navigate user interface.

The backup capabilities are very good.
We find the ability to allow for business continuity to be very helpful. Our systems are not very stable, where we come from here in Kenya. There can be serious problems very often. There are many incidents and businesses can just collapse. The peace of mind of having a backup on hand is critical.
The initial setup is very simple.
The solution is stable.
The product is quite scalable.
Technical support is very good.
We find the pricing is reasonable.

This is a good backup interconversion solution because all the masters and the targets backups are on the same system. It is easy to administrate for a single point of access for clients.
View full review »The most valuable technical feature for us is the deduplication ratio. This is a very important aspect in order to have a remote site backup. The advantage of the solution is that they provide agents for all types of databases and applications that are included in the solution.

Technical support has been helpful over the years.

This solution is flexible, powerful, and fast. It is very capable of scaling and very good for heterogeneous environments.
The day-to-day operations including imaging, backup, and restore, are very easy to do.
This solution includes many good features such as:
NetBackup Accelerator
NetBackup Replication Director
Synthetic Backups
Multi-streamed Backup
OpenStorage (OST) support
Bare-metal restore, supports P2V as an option
Automatic robotic/tape drive configuration
Broad tape device support
And also replication, compression, and integration with VMware. Many of the features it has are not available in other solutions.
View full review »We have good data backup coverage.
View full review »The most valuable feature is that the backup and restoring process is very fast. It is very resilient and it is quite easy to manage. I only have an architectural perspective, but another feature is the new multi-tenant feature available on the Flex system with the Veritas 5340 Appliance. This is a very appreciated feature, and we are required to maintain segregation between tenants.

The features that are most valuable are the ease of integration in deployment and updates. Everything is packaged when you do the upgrade, so it's quite easy to manage.
View full review »One of the best features is the VMware integration with NetBackup.
The cloud-based backup is also an excellent feature.
The ability to establish many plans for long term retention, especially using some of their appliances is very helpful. We're not using paid backups for long term retention. It's our business procedure. Instead, we use new apps for storage. There is a type of storage they offer in which they give us member shared space and we can establish a parent point of the primary appliances in order to comply with the long term retention.
One of the other features of NetBackup is that it gives you Granular Recovery Technology for three major applications, or services: SQL, SharePoint, and Exchange. That means that you don't have to deploy an agent on Exchange servers or a DAG server. It also supports Office 365, and Cloud-based services. You don't have to deploy agents in a SharePoint environment, a SharePoint file, and you don't have to deploy an agent in SQL because when you create the VMware policy and you activate Granular Recovery Technology, the VMware technology that is used gives you the ability to restore with GRT, without the obligations which have an agent on the server. That is a great feature.

For traditional setups, you need to have one separate media server plus you need maybe a data domain or some kind of storage. If you use the NetBackup Appliance you do not need to have separate media servers and hardware. You can configure the same storage as a media server and master server as well as a storage port. This helps to reduce the hardware costs of the media server.
View full review »The most valuable feature of this solution is the backup speed. The traffic made up of backup data is not passed on the slow networks. Rather, it is delivered directly from the network storage solutions.
I offer another feature to my customers, called the Backup Aerial network (BAN). This separates the heavy backup traffic from the service traffic. I use a dedicated data switch or network port to separate the lighter traffic from services such as Exchange, Skype, Active Directory, DNS, etc.

We like the simplicity of the solution. You can recover and browse backed up data via CLI (command-line interface). The platform independence of the bare metal restore feature is great.
View full review »The most valuable feature of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is duplication and covers many applications.
View full review »It is easy to use and the performance is good.
View full review »The tool is easy to use, stable, and performs well, but it depends on the environment where it is deployed. It is leaning more toward huge enterprises where it is positioned. It needs to be as easy as others but addresses more complex requirements.
View full review »I replaced the solution with the data domain systems because we also provide managed backup servers and backup service steps. We are managing to pick up the environment with the DPS and the data domain. We integrate in Cyber Recovery Solutions.
