We performed a comparison between Oracle Linux, Oracle Solaris, and Windows Server based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Red Hat, Canonical, Oracle and others in Operating Systems (OS) for Business."The most valuable features are performance, frequent update patches, and security."
"The configuration with Oracle database and Oracle Center databases is easy."
"Oracle is well-known for its strong security measures. I have a great deal of confidence in the security of the Oracle DB, including its ability to monitor changes made to the database."
"I feel the stability to be the solution's best feature."
"It is good for web, network, and file management."
"It's very useful for hosting other Oracle products."
"Once installed, the product is good, I like it. The core of the software is really good."
"We find the consolidated support for this solution and other same vendor systems to be an extremely valuable feature. This allows for faster resolution of issues and consistency of support personnel."
"Oracle Solaris was the preferred operating system for their customers to run their databases on and to get the best performance. It performs well with Oracle applications. Additionally, there are some features inside that are called zones which are Linux containers."
"Solaris' best feature is its stability."
"Solaris Zones and Containers are my favorite features."
"It is a scalable solution. I recommend it for bigger companies."
"This product is stable, has good documentation, lots of solutions, a big community, and good support."
"One of the main features of this solution is the ease of use."
"Oracle Solaris is great due to the fact that it actually is meant for high-end servers."
"The stability of the solution is good."
"If everything is configured correctly this solution provides high performance. Building a Failover Cluster is comparatively much easier in Windows Server than any of the Linux-based solutions."
"The installation process is great."
"The features that I have found most valuable are that it is quick with an easy installation and has good troubleshooting compared to Linux or any other operating system."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is it works well overall."
"Setting up Windows Server is pretty straightforward. It takes anywhere from a few hours to a day. One person can do it if it's not a complex environment."
"The most valuable features of Windows Server for us are scalability, hardware compatibility, and support for various hardware interfaces like communication boards."
"The product is scalable."
"The simplicity of the solution is the most valuable aspect."
"Time drifts happen frequently, and the database restarts automatically to protect data integrity."
"I would want Oracle to explore more of Kubernetes and micro services."
"The installation documentation needs to be improved"
"Technical support slow to respond."
"They could introduce the same level of remote capabilities, which are available with VMware applications to build distant environments."
"It could be more scalable."
"I would prefer to have the KDE Plasma Workspaces interface instead of GNOME."
"I think the pricing could be improved to be more competitive."
"The tool is quite complex and difficult for anyone trying to use or study it."
"More monitoring tools could be included in the product."
"The scalability of the solution can be improved."
"I believe before Oracle was using Oracle Linux, they were using Oracle Solaris for their customers who are using Oracle databases. This was because it was more optimized for the hardware built for it. It has good performance for the database only. However, if you take it out of the Oracle applications, it will not do well compared to other operating systems, such as Linux or even Windows can have better performance."
"The solution is pricey and can be improved by lowering the cost."
"I would love to see improvements in SVM, so file systems could be increased or migrated without downtime to the environment, similar to what ZFS is capable of."
"This product is not as flexible as other similar solutions on the market today."
"If it could support other file systems, it would be better."
"There should be the ability to add other databases to be installed and configured instead of going to other virtual machines. They should be better integrated so they are all in one place."
"I believe that Windows Server can be somewhat vulnerable compared to other options, but its security can be improved. I also think that the setup process can be somewhat complex, depending on the applications involved. Regarding the security features of Windows Server, while it offers some built-in security measures, it's not sufficient to solely rely on them. Additional external devices such as firewalls may be needed for comprehensive protection. Deploying antivirus and firewall software on the server is advisable, but having an external firewall adds an extra layer of security. When migrating to Windows Server from previous versions or other platforms, noticeable improvements were observed, particularly in the utilization of graphical interfaces. Windows offers robust graphical guidance, especially compared to Linux or other systems like Acronis, making it easier to navigate and manage various functionalities."
"I would like to see easier implementation and better customer service in the future."
"Compared to Linux, the solution is a bit difficult to deploy."
"The product's pricing needs improvement."
"I would like to see better updates and for it to support other applications"
"I would definitely like to see bolting monitoring tools. To monitor the server you usually have to install third party tools. I would like to be less reliant on third-party tools. They always create some sort of security issue regarding ports that need to be opened, that type of thing. Windows Server has internally monitorable software but remote monitoring software would be a great add-on."
"The solution would be better by implementing more security and integration."
