We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is highly efficient and easily scalable, particularly for handling large databases.""The solution is stable and reliable.""The solution can handle a large volume of data.""Unlike relational, where you're linking together multiple tables, with Essbase, you basically define what the dimensions are beforehand, and you define the hierarchy, and then load the data. This allows you to do a pretty sophisticated analysis so that you can drill into it and slice and dice the data.""The solution is scalable.""I have found the most valuable aspect is the user-friendly environment and current features.""It helps us fetch specific data sets per users' requirements.""Essbase is extremely stable and low-maintenance."

"This product provides good reports using a single pane of glass.""SAP Analytics Hub offers a user-friendly interface with effortless configuration, seamless updates, and real-time availability of information. It avoids the complexities associated with batch processing, providing a smooth and efficient experience.""Data consistency is also a notable feature; the system takes care of data consistency, so you don't need to handle it manually.""For report scheduling, I always prefer SAP because it has the most powerful scheduling features, like sending reports to more than 1,000 customers per day. That option is not as good in Microsoft BI and in Tableau it only exists as an add-on option.""What I like best about this solution is that it is built into the SAP line, making it easier to integrate with other SAP products."

"The action feature which Tableau has is very useful for us. If we click on one visualization, it will pass the value to another visualization. That interactivity within different visualizations is the most valuable feature of Tableau.""Tableau has greatly enhanced our organization's data-driven decision-making processes by enabling us to create visually compelling reports and dashboards.""I love the customization skills that Tableau has, it is not restricted to what is built-in already.""Tableau is good for routine dashboards, and it has integration with Slack, through which it can send you daily updates.""Although Tableau isn't the best for us when it comes to processing and working on live data, it is very good at extracting data for analysis.""It's the ease of use. It is also a self-service tool so it decreases the burden on having centralized IT-type teams or developers.""Easy for beginners to use""Tableau has many different connectors for different databases. It's very easy to connect to MySQL, SQL Server, Amazon EMR, Presto, Redshift, BigQuery, and so on."

Cons
"The ability to drive external reporting out for development could be improved.""Essbase has a programming language, and it has a couple of functions to do forecasting, however, their feature set for that is not that good.""The initial setup is pretty complex.""The initial setup could be simplified.""It's an expensive product to use.""There is room for improvement in terms of cost-effectiveness.""They should improve the solution's performance.""I would like to see an integration with application performance management and a version control management tool."

More Oracle Essbase Cons →

"The interface can be simplified because it is not a user-friendly experience.""Pricing and support are integrated into the system. However, the support process can be challenging, particularly when navigating the SAP support site, which lacks user-friendliness and ease of access.""The technical support for Analytics Hub is limited and could be improved.""Faster implementation of new functions for the new product is an area of improvement in SAP Analytics Hub.""The analytics part of SAP has not been that good up until now. They're still in the infant stage and development is still going on. SAP has some cloud analytics and they're trying to configure it in Lumira, but it's not that good at this point."

More SAP Analytics Hub Cons →

"I would like Tableau Prep to be integrated with Tableau Desktop. I would also like more customizations for tables.""There could be improvements on the mobile application, it is lacking features.""The setup was easy but we are having some problems with the configuration that is taking a long time. We have done some initial tests and some of the delays could be from bandwidth issues. However, the whole installation process should be simplified.""We did have issues with Tableau 10.1 server with the brokers failing on heavy load but since moving to 10.2, then to 10.3, this issue seems to have been resolved and the environment is now quite stable.""The customization requires a lot of effort and should be simplified. The performance could be better.""The solution needs to improve its integration capabilities.""The integration with other program languages, like Python, needs to be better.""The extraction, transformation and loading of data in Tableau takes a lot of time and we do not have confidence that Tableau is showing all the data we need."

After a recent presentation, several attendees asked me about the applications of Visual Insights and Tableau. Many companies are investing in both tools and are trying to figure out the right tool for specific applications Tableau has found its sweet-spot as an agile discovery tool that analysts use to create and share insights. It is also the tool of choice for rapid prototyping of dashboards. Tableau is very flexible with its data import. Tableau's data blending capability is very intuitive. This capability is useful when you have data spread across several different sources that has not gone through ETL processes. This is a problem analysts deal with routinely. They are unable to wait for the data warehouse team to develop ETL processes to provide the physical models they need to build an analysis. The Tableau interface is Excel-like and has a low barrier to entry for analysts that are used to working in Excel. Building a dashboard by mashing up visualizations in a Tableau worksheet is extremely simple. Users are able to build good presentation-quality dashboards in a very short amount time. Tableau's annotations capabilities and its time and geographical intelligence are key differentiators. Tableau has overcome limitations in data sharing with the introduction of a Data Server in Tableau 7.0. The Data server allows Data sources and extracts to be shared securely and opens up interesting new possibilities. If your application can take advantage of the above… Read more →
