We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable aspect is its ability to provide interfaces for events.""AWS Outposts brings native AWS services, infrastructure, and API to our on-premises data center or co-location facilities.""Outposts allows you to isolate your private environment from the public cloud provider while enabling almost all the features that are available on public cloud services. That is the beauty of this service. It's an infrastructure that you can put in your data center and seamlessly connect to the public cloud.""The most valuable aspect is that it comes in a rack form factor which makes it incredibly easy to use and deploy various AWS services.""I think the keys to success for the solution is the easy-to-use user interface and the fact that the development team really likes the platform.""If you compare with the full bundle of these services, you can see the difference. This is enough for these locations in private data centers. Because the main reasons why the customers want to have it on their side are for the low latency and the security of their critical data.""With AWS, we've had seamless integration and support for many of our applications."

"The solution integrates easily.""The ability to fire up a virtual machine, use it, and then kill it, is quite a valuable feature for me.""Linode has many other cloud servers across the globe.""The most valuable feature is the static IP address, which has been very helpful for being able to log into the same address over the course of more than a decade.""Because of the way that their pricing model is set up, I can scale up or down the size of a customer's server very easily. It makes life very easy for me when they run out of space, need more speed or RAM, etc. I can very easily pay the difference and reboot the machine, and now I have the upgrade that I wanted. That just makes it extremely simple.""The number one thing we like about Linode isn't necessarily a service, it's their support. We've found their support to be absolutely fantastic. They've been so outstanding with their support. Every single time we call them and we ask for advice or help, they go above and beyond and it's really made us appreciate what they do.""I very much like the support that you get, and I think that it's excellent.""They have a very nice web interface to allow you to manage and reorganize your server."

Cons
"The platform needs to spend more time investing in strengthening its governance and information tools and consider the real needs of its customers.""Outposts supports elastic coordinator services, but not elastic container services, which is the native service for containers in AWS. That is something missing in this product.""Also, it would be beneficial if AWS allowed for more granular and customizable pricing options.""The pricing model needs improvement because right now it's very expensive. All of these solutions are very expensive and it prevents other customers or owners of data centers from buying it.""It would be beneficial to have the option for capacity expansion.""Depending on the installation process, we have found some bugs and issues with the solution when the same platform is not used.""It would be great if it could support Glue services."

More AWS Outposts Cons →

"It would be nice if they had more data centers in Latin America.""Our primary concern is always the latency.""The product must improve its security.""Right now, they don't have multiple data centers. They have limited data centers. I am currently using the Singapore and Mumbai data centers, but I am looking for data centers in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. They need to improve the availability of their data centers and partnership engagements with cloud Panda solution providers, like us.""I'm not sure what could be improved at Linode since they're likely already making enhancements, especially with the Akamai acquisition and, I don't have any specific suggestions as I haven't encountered any major issues. I might consider using API for managing DNS records, but overall, I'm satisfied with Linode.""They don't have role-based access control, which is problematic for us.""Because they are a smaller company, they do not have, for example, all of the ways for authentication that Amazon or Azure has.""I don't know how all of their services work, but my understanding is that they're not offering the entry-level machine for someone who just wants to own their own web page."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing of Outposts needs to be evaluated from the standpoint of what's cost-effective at your company: How are you going to use it? How much money will it save for your products or applications? Is it worth it? I would say it's probably too expensive for small or medium-sized companies. However, big companies might find it to be highly cost-effective depending on their respective cloud strategies."
  • "While the longer-term pricing is suitable for enterprise contracts, it can be on the higher side, especially when organizations don't utilize all the services included in the bundles."
  • "AWS Outposts is a cheap solution."

  • "I pay just over £20 per month and have done so ever since I started eight years ago, which to me is good value."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. I like the simplicity of it, starting at $5, then doubling as it goes up from there. That is a brilliant idea, and it is not complex at all. It is about as dead simple as you can imagine. So, if you want to double what you have, then you double your price, pay the money, and reboot. It is done. It's that simple. You can't beat that."
  • "One key difference is that pricing is very hard to come by and to understand with all the bigger companies. Their pricing models are so weird and it's hard to figure out exactly how much I am going to pay for this kind of service. Everything is piecemeal. With Linode, it's simple and straightforward. You know exactly what you will have to pay at the end of the day."
  • "Compared to other service providers, like AWS and Google, the cost of services are much less and more affordable. We are saving about 90 percent by going with Linode versus other cloud providers."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. If you have very small applications, you can use the plan which costs $5 per month. That gives you 50 GB of memory and almost 1 GB of RAM. If you need more than you have to select the next plan which is $10 per month, which has about 70 GB of data and 2 GB of RAM."
  • "The value for the price is really good."
  • "Pricing is very good and flexible, according to the resources required."
  • "Being that they are small, their prices are slightly higher than the large providers like Amazon if you compare raw computing power."
