We are using this solution mainly for backups.

Reasonably priced, but the stability needs to be improved and it is difficult to maintain.
Pros and Cons
- "The cost was the main reason we chose to use this solution."
- "As it is an S3 solution with the same protocol as the one we have with AWS, having better integration with AWS will be beneficial."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The cost was the main reason we chose to use this solution.
As it is software-based, it is possible to select one or the other and change the hardware as needed.
What needs improvement?
The stability could improve.
It is not easy to maintain, which is a big drawback to the solution. We have to call the support team to be able to change things that were needed.
As it is an S3 solution with the same protocol as the one we have with AWS, having better integration with AWS will be beneficial.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Cloudian HyperStore for approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is not stable all of the time We ran into a few issues and had to work with the support team to get the training right. As a result, it isn't the most stable product I'm using.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Cloudian HyperStore is a scalable product.
Backups are for the entire organization. So we have 1500, but it's not direct usage, but rather an indirect usage via backups.
We don't plan to increase our usage next year because we have enough room to expand, but it will depend on our backup needs. I would say it'll be relatively stable. I don't intend to buy any more in the near future.
How are customer service and support?
Because the product is quite complex, it can be difficult to find the right person to solve a specific problem. And escalation isn't always simple.
How was the initial setup?
The installation has been realized with the partner and then I have one person in my team maintaining the product.
The solution was maintained internally by one person, and it was implemented externally by two people.
What about the implementation team?
We have implemented the products with an external partner.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing fees are paid every three or five years.
It's not paid per month. It's not a subscription. You must pay based on the number of uses.
What other advice do I have?
It is very important to understand the tool's purpose and why you want to use the solution. It's an excellent backup solution.
I would rate Cloudian HyperStore a six out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

A reasonable-priced and durable solution for storing our company backup data
Pros and Cons
- "It is very durable and that is particularly important."
- "It is a cloud-based environment and at times, it is not very simple to use."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use this solution for storing our backups.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the durability. It is very durable and that is particularly important.
What needs improvement?
It is a cloud-based environment and at times, it is not very simple to use. I would like to see it more user-friendly and easy to use.
I would like to see better integration with HyperFile.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Cloudian HyperStore for six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is quite stable and we haven't had any problems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In the time that we have been using Cloudian HyperStore, we haven't added capacity to it. My understanding is that it is not difficult to expand, so it's clearly scalable but I don't know how easy it is. This is something that we expect to find out in the future.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have been in contact with technical support, back from the point where it was first installed. Most of the time, our interaction with them has been quite good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to this, we were using Commvault with EMC Isilon hardware. We switched because the EMC maintenance is very expensive and it was cheaper to buy a new solution, compared to maintaining the old one. As it is now, we don't have to pay a lot for maintenance.
How was the initial setup?
This is clearly a product that you cannot deploy by yourself.
The installation was quite fast. In two days, we had the software installed on the new hardware. For the entire solution, however, you need more time. We had to migrate our data to the new infrastructure, for example. In total, it took us about one month to deploy.
What about the implementation team?
The setup and deployment were done by Cloudian.
My team, of three or four engineers, is responsible for maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Cloudian HyperStore is definitely priced well compared to some competing products. Our fees are approximately half a dollar per gigabyte.
What other advice do I have?
As this is a software-defined solution, it is important to understand the product and the problems that can occur. Technical support will install it, which is always the case. Next, in order to have a good TCO then it is very important to have the best combination of hardware and software.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Scalability, Amazon S3 compatibility allow us to move back and forth with a hybrid cloud
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are its scalability and Amazon S3 compatibility because we can move back and forth with a hybrid cloud."
What is our primary use case?
We are using it for video surveillance. Performance has been great.
How has it helped my organization?
It's easy to manage. It doesn't require a lot of administration. It will let us grow.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are its scalability and Amazon S3 compatibility because we can move back and forth with a hybrid cloud.
What needs improvement?
I'm really pretty satisfied with it. I suppose the cost could always be lower and they should continue to add the latest Amazon S3 features.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability has been great.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is excellent.
How are customer service and technical support?
Support is very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using something else. It was not working well and it would not scale well.
Our most important criteria when selecting a vendor include a good technical solution, that is probably number one; good financial backing is probably number two. Number three is technical support, excellent technical support.
How was the initial setup?
I was not involved with the initial setup, my team was, but they got it up and going very quickly.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Scality, SwiftStack, and Cloudian. We chose Cloudian because we should get the best.
What other advice do I have?
It has met all of our expectations. Buy it, you'll like it.
