Ease of deployment and cost-effectiveness boost operational efficiency
Pros and Cons
- "Compared to other email solutions such as Cisco, price-wise, we get this solution within 50 to 60% of the average."
- "Threat intelligence is adequate because they are using Microsoft GTI threat intelligence, but we need to increase protection against phishing and spam mails."
What is our primary use case?
We block DMARC for incoming mails and have threat detection enabled to block or identify any spam mail received in end-user mailboxes. We prevent spam mails and unknowns such as DKIM and DMARC unavailable mail. Additionally, we have country-based restrictions in our email gateway, which helps us prevent mail coming from unrecognized or unused countries. These are the ways we provide security to our end-user mailboxes.
What is most valuable?
We have cloud threat protection, which helps us identify any suspicious threats in emails.
Threat intelligence is adequate because they are using Microsoft GTI threat intelligence, but we need to increase protection against phishing and spam mails. It is already implemented, but we need to increase intelligence for cases where phishing links are received and need to be blocked. If users try to open links that have converted to phishing after some time, those need to be blocked. We are blocking some links, but we may miss others, so we need clarity on that protection, especially for older links.
What needs improvement?
I have recommendations for increasing dashboard customization. Currently, we are using custom dashboards, but they are not effectively customizable. If they provide better customization options, it would be easier to understand everything in a single dashboard instead of navigating through dropdown menus to see reports. Additionally, log retention is currently 30 days, but some customers request to extend it to 60 days. Having 60 days of log retention would be helpful for maintaining logs.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Trellix Email Security for the past one year.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
There are two deployment modes: API integration, which is very easy, and MX record change, which requires some downtime. For deployment with inline mode, it takes around four to six hours of downtime. For API-based integration, we do not need any downtime and can implement it directly in production.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The security rates at eight out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not performed scalability adjustments because the user count has not increased. However, based on my understanding, we have the option to increase the count in the future. The scalability rates at nine out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support rates at eight out of ten. The overall service rates at eight.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I work with both Sophos and Trellix Email Security solutions. When compared with Sophos, Trellix Email Security is better, and when compared to other solutions, the price is more cost-effective.
How was the initial setup?
We deployed the solution for approximately 1,000 mailboxes.
What about the implementation team?
Three people were involved in the installation: one from the DNS side, one from Office 365, and another from my team.
What was our ROI?
The operational cost involves a one-time investment for purchasing and implementing the solution, which provides protection for one year. The operational cost is average. Compared to other email solutions such as Cisco, price-wise, we get this solution within 50 to 60% of the average. They provide good percentages for enterprise customers. It reduces costs by almost 40% or 45% compared to other security solutions.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I am satisfied with the secure licensing cost because compared to other solutions, Trellix Email Security is cheaper and provides most features. I only know about the pricing from one year ago.
What other advice do I have?
I am not working with other Trellix products such as Trellix Move AntiVirus or Trellix Intrusion Prevention System. The solution is easy to deploy, and the operational cost is less compared to other solutions. The price rates at eight out of ten. We use inline mode for integration with existing security infrastructure. They recently added AI to the solution, but I need to check with the team regarding AI implementation for email specifically. My final rating for Trellix Email Security is nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Email filtering has reduced spam complaints and provides reliable automated threat protection
Pros and Cons
- "For email spam and malware threat prevention, Trellix Email Security just works and I really appreciate the product."
- "For potential areas of improvement, Trellix can enable proper single sign-on as opposed to a local username and password."
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Trellix Email Security is that it filters out malware and spam from our email. It does a good job and performs better than Exchange at filtering spam and malware.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable functions or features in Trellix Email Security are the automation, the rules you can set up to copy other people into incoming emails, and the granularity of configuring policies. The platform's dynamic threat intelligence in email security works well.
What needs improvement?
For potential areas of improvement, Trellix can enable proper single sign-on as opposed to a local username and password. I would like to see single sign-on as an additional feature in Trellix Email Security.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Trellix Email Security for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability of Trellix Email Security as a ten based on my experience in the last four years.
How are customer service and support?
I have not needed support, so I cannot score it. I have never contacted Trellix support as it just works.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Trellix Email Security is better than the McAfee mail gateways.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup for Trellix Email Security is simple.
What about the implementation team?
We do everything for the setup in-house and have not required integrators or consultants.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would rate the pricing for Trellix Email Security as a five, where one is a high price and ten is reasonable.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I can compare Trellix Email Security with Mimecast and it is much cheaper than Mimecast. The only other thing I can compare it with is the old McAfee email gateways, and it is much better than those.
What other advice do I have?
I do not use Trellix anomaly detection as I am not working with anomaly detection. We do not use encryption features in Trellix Email Security for maintenance, compliance, or anything related to regulations such as GDPR. I do not really use Trellix reports, but one of the things I appreciate about it is that it is a tool that just works. We want it for perimeter mail filtering, and that is what it does. I rarely have to touch it.
The main benefits that Trellix Email Security provides for me as an end user are good value for money and probably the main benefit is the huge decrease in spam reports from end users.
For email spam and malware threat prevention, Trellix Email Security just works and I really appreciate the product. I would rate this review with an overall rating of nine.

Email protection has blocked phishing campaigns and provides clear insight into user threats
Pros and Cons
- "The impact of Trellix Email Security is very good, with reporting showing that above 90% of threats have been blocked monthly, indicating that Trellix Email Security has helped protect us from cyberattacks."
- "To improve Trellix Email Security, I think the dashboard details could be enhanced."
What is our primary use case?
Trellix Email Security's main use case is to protect our users from phishing emails and any type of unknown or spam emails. We are protecting our users from spam emails and unknown links, and we have integrated Trellix Email Security with our emails. We have protected our email security with our endpoint security, which is also Trellix. We are using TI-reputation for our email security system, and it is working fine.
A specific example of how Trellix Email Security helped protect our users from phishing or spam emails occurred when, on weekends, users received multiple spam emails. Trellix protected us by recognizing the spam links, scanning them with anti-malware engines, and then quarantining the emails for our users. A notification is also sent to users if they know the sender, allowing them to request the admin to release the email. Multiple users requested us to analyze the email sender, and we found that this sender was a spam source using a phishing campaign against our company. Trellix protected us from that spam campaign, and I appreciate this.
One of our use cases for Trellix Email Security is to protect users from spam emails. If any user accidentally receives a spam email and clicks on a link within the email body, Trellix scans the link with anti-malware and sandboxing. If the link is safe, users will be able to access it. If the link is deemed malicious or unknown, Trellix blocks it for all users.
How has it helped my organization?
Trellix Email Security has positively impacted our organization by being a very impactful and powerful tool. It reduces the number of threats that users received before the implementation of Trellix. The threats have significantly decreased, and it helps users analyze standard emails and phishing campaigns. Trellix Email Security provides a very user-friendly environment, which is great.
The impact of Trellix Email Security is very good. The reporting shows that we have reviewed multiple times, and above 90% of threats have been blocked by Trellix Email Security monthly. This reporting indicates that Trellix Email Security has helped protect us from cyberattacks.
What is most valuable?
The best features of Trellix Email Security are the integration, the reputation system, and the administration console. The central control console that we access for email security is the same console we use for our endpoint management and endpoint security features like antivirus. This is a main use case that helps administrators manage operational work, which is why we are using it.
The integration with Trellix Email Security and the central administration console simplifies our daily work significantly. The dashboard of Trellix Email Security is very good, and the reporting features aid us in analyzing threat events. The graphical representation is clear, which is a key aspect of our use case.
What needs improvement?
To improve Trellix Email Security, I think the dashboard details could be enhanced. It would be more efficient if the Trellix team could differentiate between multiple email security engines within our dashboard and integrate threat analysis with the email security engine. This would assist administrators in reviewing and protecting our organization better.
Almost all features are already in place in Trellix Email Security. Enhancing the reporting administration dashboard could add value.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trellix Email Security for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Trellix Email Security is stable. We have not experienced any downtime or issues. Since we manage it on-premises, we have not encountered any downtime. Everything is working fine, and the administration of Trellix Email Security is very user-friendly.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Trellix Email Security can handle growth as our organization expands. We have invested in multiple cybersecurity solutions, and Trellix Email Security is one of them. Recently, we have expanded our budget on email security and other security tools.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support for Trellix Email Security is very efficient and timely responsive.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before Trellix Email Security, we used Proofpoint email security.
What was our ROI?
We do not rely on a return on investment for Trellix Email Security. Our primary focus is protecting our users from threats and ensuring security. We operate under government regulations, which is why we do not prioritize ROI.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The setup cost of Trellix Email Security is almost none, but the licensing is per user, and it has competitive pricing compared to other email security engines such as Trend Micro and Proofpoint.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others looking into using Trellix Email Security is to evaluate and test it against their current solutions. I believe it will prove to be very efficient and enhance their company's security.
I do not have any additional thoughts about Trellix Email Security as I consider it a recommended product. I would rate this product an 8 out of 10.
