Tomcat Valuable Features

AhmadTalha - PeerSpot reviewer

The solution integrates smoothly with the development environment. The integration process is straightforward. You only need to configure the project in your IDE. With intelligent features, the integration becomes even easier. Once integrated, deployment into our application is straightforward. Previously, we sometimes relied on manual deployment processes or used a separate application manager. However, with this solution, deployment is simplified.

The solution loads quickly compared to other servers and is lightweight, resulting in faster startup times. Additionally, it consumes fewer resources, providing more flexibility. It also benefits from a strong community and documentation. Overall, it's easy to use and configure.

We are using Tomcat primarily as a request blocker. It manages queues and handles routing. The size of these queues can be adjusted to scale the application, accommodating perhaps 50-100 REST connections. Using these tools, we achieve our scalability goals. Tomcat is a highly scalable solution.

The ease of use of Tomcat is its most valuable feature. Once we grade particular software, we simply download it and we keep an eye on if Tomcat is working. We have a link within Tomcat that tells us whether is working or not.

I love Tomcat for its scalability, reliability, availability, and steadiness. There are a lot of bots that come and hit and a lot of RPA codes that come and corrupt. RPA tools themselves create a lot of bugs because they come and try to instrument and automate a lot of things. The people who have written that code are not very up to the mark in terms of not messing with the app servers.

Sometimes, the app servers get corrupted, and then they hang. So, I should be able to instrument it in such a way that my Kubernetes cluster takes over and switches it to another app server, and it blocks the RPA from coming and touching it. I can do that with Comcast very easily.

The company decided earlier, when our database was on Oracle, that Tomcat is more suitable for Java-based applications and it's a free tool with free servers that we can download and use there.

Tomcat is user-friendly and easy to set up, especially compared to WebLogic or JBoss where some specialty is required. If you are going for Tomcat, you can use their guidelines and can set it up easily

Apache Tomcat has become almost the defacto server for serving Java-based applications on the internet. We use Tomcat for our Java web applications and just recently also for our Android software development classes. We chose Tomcat as it was the most widely-used Java web application programming server at that time. Also, most of our resources were tailored to work with Tomcat, and our colleagues who underwent Java web application development was also taught using Tomcat.Features-wise, it's a complete solution. Plus, a lot of other developers are also using it, and the project has been steadily supported by Apache. View full review »
