We use the solution to replicate operational databases. We replicate the information from critical databases to non-critical databases. We use it for reports and transformations and to present it to other services.
IT Operations Manager at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
Enables to replicate data across different data centers and different technologies, but it is expensive and not easy to use
Pros and Cons
- "We can replicate data across different data centers and different technologies."
- "The product is not easy to use."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
We ensure that the data is replicated from one type of database to another immediately. It helps us with reporting, providing information to end users, and data management. We can replicate data across different data centers and different technologies. We like this function.
What needs improvement?
The documentation could be improved. The product is not easy to use. The knowledge required for the product is high. What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the tool’s stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I rate the tool’s scalability a nine out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
The support must be improved. When a vendor wants to reduce the cost of a support team, they have a first level of support with less knowledge. The escalation process is really slow. It takes ages to escalate issues to higher layers of support. The case has remained at the first level for a long time. It is typical of Oracle. We have complained directly to Oracle several times regarding the support.
How was the initial setup?
The product is easy to deploy since it is on the cloud. However, it is not easy to manage. The deployment time has been reduced, but the configuration and tuning are costly.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The tool is a bit expensive. It is not that elastic.
What other advice do I have?
It is a legacy process, and we need people with a lot of knowledge to do it. We can scale all the technology we need because we do not have the license. We update and perform security management for the tool. We have a group of five to ten engineers in our technical team. We cannot expand the tool easily. It is expensive. Overall, I rate the product a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Senior Oracle Database Administrator at Computer Information Systems (CIS)
Offers cost-effective real-time data replication, flexibility, and customization options
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of Oracle GoldenGate is its cost-effectiveness compared to other solutions like Oracle Data Guard, especially for Oracle-to-non-Oracle replication scenarios."
- "In the future, I would appreciate a more user-friendly monitoring interface for easier management and troubleshooting."
What is our primary use case?
I have used Oracle GoldenGate for a couple of different scenarios. One client wanted to keep their main database secure, so we set up GoldenGate to replicate data in a separate environment for reporting purposes. This allowed users to query the replicated data without directly accessing the main database. Another client needed real-time access to historical data without active data guards, so we implemented GoldenGate to enable querying of archived data from both Oracle and non-Oracle sources.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Oracle GoldenGate is its cost-effectiveness compared to other solutions like Oracle Data Guard, especially for Oracle-to-non-Oracle replication scenarios. Secondly, its versatility in supporting data replication across different operating systems and platforms is highly valuable, making it the go-to tool for heterogeneous environments.
What needs improvement?
In the future, I would appreciate a more user-friendly monitoring interface for easier management and troubleshooting. I believe enhancing the monitoring tools would make GoldenGate even more efficient.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Oracle GoldenGate for a few months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
GoldenGate is quite scalable.
How are customer service and support?
While the technical support for Oracle GoldenGate is generally great, it has room for improvement in escalating critical issues to senior engineers promptly. Sometimes, customers face delays or multiple interactions with junior support engineers before resolving. I would rate the support as a nine out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
I find the initial setup process of Oracle GoldenGate to be straightforward and haven't encountered any complexities with it. I would rate the easiness of the initial setup as an eight out of ten.
The deployment process for Oracle GoldenGate begins with understanding the customer's replication needs. It is essential to clarify which data to replicate and any limitations. Documentation and workflow planning follow, listing objects and target environments. For major changes like database migrations, a careful cut-over plan is crucial. The deployment time for Oracle GoldenGate varies based on the data size and initial load type, but with good connectivity, it can be quick.
Maintenance isn't difficult and mainly involves proactive monitoring to address issues before they occur. Additional attention may be needed only if businesses want to adjust configurations or address performance lags.
What other advice do I have?
Oracle GoldenGate instantly replicates data changes from primary databases to secondary ones, ensuring real-time updates across systems. Its monitoring features detect issues promptly, minimizing downtime. Overall, GoldenGate provides reliable real-time data integration, enhancing business processes efficiently.
In one organization, we employed Oracle GoldenGate for data replication. We opted for a three-way setup to integrate data between source and target databases without directly impacting either side. Placing an intermediary server between the source and target, we configured GoldenGate parameters. This allowed data to flow from the source to the intermediary server and then to the target, meeting our specific requirements. Depending on cost considerations, we sometimes chose a simpler two-way replication directly from source to target.
The conflict detection and resolution feature of Oracle GoldenGate ensures that data replication tasks are executed seamlessly without any conflicts. This results in a flawless data replication process for customers, leading to a positive experience without any complaints or issues related to data consistency or integrity.
I would recommend considering Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data replication, especially if cost is a factor compared to DataGuard. Additionally, GoldenGate is easier to manage with the right technical expertise. Training the team on managing it can streamline operations and provide business advantages.
Overall, I would rate Oracle GoldenGate as a ten out of ten.

Managing Partner at Gs Consultoria em Ti LTDA
A robust and reliable data replication and integration providing real-time, heterogeneous data movement that significantly streamlines development and ensures cost-effectiveness
Pros and Cons
- "One feature that stands out for me is the data center capability."
- "A clean and user-friendly graphical interface based on common design principles would be beneficial."
What is our primary use case?
We use it for a project involving data integration from two distinct sources within our factory. One source was an Oracle database, while the other was a MySQL database. Additionally, we incorporated data from a cloud-based Teradata system that Oracle had acquired. Our task involved configuring the data to create a unified data warehouse.
How has it helped my organization?
It's an incredible tool, as it's quite impressive to construct the gateway. The process is surprisingly quick, and it has been around for a considerable period. I would say it operates seamlessly, eliminating the necessity for any data transformation or Excel-related tasks. You can simply input the data and retrieve it effortlessly. The gateway allows for easy management, providing clear insights. It's truly reliable and stands out as an excellent tool.
What is most valuable?
One feature that stands out for me is the data center capability. Leveraging Azure servers, we can effortlessly synchronize data between servers, whether it's from one source to another. This is done seamlessly without the need for additional configurations, just a simple pump to facilitate the process. Another noteworthy feature is its adaptability to changes in the source, such as the addition of a new column or details in Oracle. There's no necessity to modify subsequent processes; a service adjustment suffices, streamlining the workflow. Its reliability is commendable, and maintenance is both straightforward and efficient. Additionally, it facilitates customization for specific market needs. Overall, it is not only user-friendly but also easy to comprehend in various aspects.
What needs improvement?
Having a graphical interface would greatly enhance the tool. A clean and user-friendly graphical interface based on common design principles would be beneficial. While the current interface is functional, incorporating a more visually intuitive design, perhaps inspired by widely used interfaces, would make it even more straightforward. Looking ahead to future releases, there are specific features I'd appreciate having. One such feature is the incorporation of pipelines, similar to those in Java, for seamless integration. Additionally, configuring for the Amazon Cloud is currently not straightforward; it often requires adding Python code to customize integrations. I would like to see an enhancement in this aspect, making the configuration process more straightforward and less reliant on intricate coding, particularly during meetings or collaborative sessions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using it for two and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The tool is generally highly reliable, although its performance is contingent on the specific environment it operates in. For instance, if the environment is not adequately configured or lacks necessary prerequisites, the tool's reliability may be compromised.

Senior Database Specialist at Deverg
A product with an easy initial setup phase and a reasonably good support team
Pros and Cons
- "The product's initial setup phase was very simple."
- "It is not a very stable tool, and you need to monitor it perfectly."
What is our primary use case?
I used Oracle GoldenGate once to integrate two tables in the last twelve months. I also used the solution to integrate two tables from IBM Big Data Analytics to the Oracle Database Services on the cloud.
What needs improvement?
The major problem in Oracle GoldenGate is the monitoring part. If you need to use the monitoring feature of Oracle GoldenGate, you need to pay a lot, meaning it is very expensive to use the plug-ins from Oracle, so sometimes a user needs to avoid using it. A user directly needs to use the scripts to monitor the integration, which works perfectly. Sometimes, a user finds it more difficult to discover the problem, though solving the problem is easy. It is difficult to discover what was the problem with the integration using Oracle GoldenGate since the logs were not very clear. With Oracle GoldenGate, the documentation was not very clear, even for the parts related to the table or DDL. In general, Oracle GoldenGate can't deliver good feedback from the logs.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have experience with Oracle GoldenGate. My company has a partnership with Oracle.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is not a very stable tool, and you need to monitor it perfectly. Sometimes, I have faced some situations with the solution, owing to which I rate the solution's stability a six out of ten. It is not a very stable tool as sometimes it stops without any reason.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten since you need to install Oracle GoldenGate on ACFS. When used with the product's documentation, the integration capabilities ensure that the product's scalability features are used.
How are customer service and support?
I had to contact the technical support team of Oracle GoldenGate whenever I faced issues with the product. There were no problems with Oracle's technical support team.
I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, I used to use Oracle Data Integrator and a solution from IBM, but I don't remember its name.
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase was very simple.
The solution can be deployed in a day, and it can be installed on the cloud or on an on-premises model, as it is a simple process. It takes a day to integrate some of the tables. Sometimes, deploying the tool on an on-premises model takes a day or two because you need to install the software and the patch.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is an expensive product.
What other advice do I have?
Oracle GoldenGate is a good product. There are some problems with the product, but you need to test some situations and include all the details in your tests before putting it in production to prevent the product or services from being stopped without any reason. Users should also ensure that the monitoring part is increased with some scripts.
I rate the overall product an eight out of ten.

Enterprise Architect at DXC Technology
A great choice for large-scale enterprises relying on real-time data integration
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's existing SaaS platform for data integration gives us an edge."
- "The GoldenGate license is very costly."
What is our primary use case?
We use GoldenGate for real-time data ingestion and integration.
What is most valuable?
The solution's existing SaaS platform for data integration gives us an edge because many other features' functionalities are available, such as real-time dashboarding and data analytics.
What needs improvement?
The GoldenGate license is very costly.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability is relative because of the way you design the entire system. DCDR, high availability, all these things come into the picture. Stability depends upon the way the ecosystem or enterprise has been designed.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Oracle GoldenGate is suitable for medium and large enterprises.
How was the initial setup?
The difficulty with the initial setup depends on the type of project you are setting up. Is it a small, midsize, or large project? You have to look at the type of vertical or line of business. If the business is in banking, the solution has to be secure. In the telecom industry, fast transactions and latency come into the picture. These factors come in during enterprise design.
The initial setup is very easy with structured data because Oracle is a master in that area. However, storage becomes an issue when discussing unstructured and semi-structured data. GoldenGate does provide access to all these things, and there isn't much of a challenge from the integration perspective with the solution.
I rate the initial setup a nine out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
We needed to exploit the real-time data analytics since data ingestion and integration were happening through the SaaS platform.
Oracle has a problem with pricing, and if they reduced the cost of their products, it would make a lot of sense. Today, many freely available tools to ingest data cover all three types: structured, unstructured, and semi-structured.
In a business like manufacturing, with data integration for large multinational companies, Oracle GoldenGate gains an edge over other solutions. Similarly, with telecommunications, for example, a multinational company like Vodafone, you would need GoldenGate to extract data. Data lineage helps control those things. Likewise, security is a concern. Smaller and lower-middle companies could not afford GoldenGate, however.
I rate GoldenGate an eight out of ten. However, different people, such as your CSO and CIO, will have different views. Your CFO, for example, might think the solution is too expensive.
