It has an analytical querying feature; its stability is excellent and allows effortless development
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like about Oracle Database as a Service is that it has excellent stability, and the development is effortless. I also like the enhanced queries in Oracle Database as a Service best."
  • "Pricing for Oracle Database as a Service could be cheaper, so this is an area for improvement."

What is our primary use case?

I used Oracle Database as a Service as a secure database.

What is most valuable?

What I like about Oracle Database as a Service is that it has excellent stability, and the development is effortless. No other database compares with Oracle Database as a Service in twenty-five years.

I also like the enhanced queries in Oracle Database as a Service. I've been using analytical queries and classes, which is what I like best about the service.

The service also has a VR feature which is excellent, though I'm not using that feature.

I also like how speedy Oracle Database as a Service is.

What needs improvement?

Pricing for Oracle Database as a Service could be cheaper, so this is an area for improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used Oracle Database as a Service for a few years as the company was using it.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I found Oracle Database as a Service excellent, stability-wise.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Oracle Database as a Service is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Support for Oracle Database as a Service is always good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for Oracle Database as a Service is straightforward. There was no difficulty in its deployment. It was easy to deploy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Oracle Database as a Service is always a bit costly, but it's an excellent service. My company used the on-premises version, and that was costly. I have yet to learn about the cost of the cloud version, though.

What other advice do I have?

My experience is with Oracle Database Administrator, Oracle Report Builder, Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Application Server, Oracle Client/Server, and Oracle Database as a Service.

I used version 12 of Oracle Database as a Service.

In the company, over five hundred people worked on Oracle Database as a Service in the last four or five years.

There's no plan to increase the usage of Oracle Database as a Service because the company is moving to another provider.

Five people, including a manager or supervisor, took care of the deployment and maintenance of Oracle Database as a Service.

I recommend Oracle Database as a Service to midsized and large-scale companies, mainly if you use the Oracle Email Delivery Service, which also requires going with Oracle Analytics Cloud. In today's modern world, if you're not using Oracle E-Business Suite and you store your data in the data warehouse and collect data from different interactive devices, such as cameras, the best solution is Oracle Database as a Service, partnered with Oracle Business Intelligence.

My rating for Oracle Database as a Service is ten out of ten, as no other service is comparable.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A database that offers great scalability, network, performance, and stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of the solution are processing, indexing, monitoring, scalability, network, performance of the clustering, clusters, and availability."
  • "The price of the solution is an area of concern. From an improvement perspective, the price of the solution should be lowered."

What is our primary use case?

Oracle Database as a Service serves as an operational and mission critical system. Oracle Database as a Service works very well for our company and can be termed one of the world's best databases.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are processing, indexing, monitoring, scalability, network, performance of the clustering, clusters, and availability.

What needs improvement?

Oracle Database as a Service is a tool that serves as a benchmark when compared to other databases in the market, so I can't find any shortcomings where improvements are required.

The price of the solution is an area of concern. From an improvement perspective, the price of the solution should be lowered.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Oracle Database as a Service for thirteen or fourteen years. I use the solution's latest version, which is Oracle Database 19c.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Oracle Database as a Service serves as a benchmark for other solutions in the market when it comes to the stability part. It is one of the best solutions in all aspects, like compatibility, performance, scalability, capabilities, and as a backup solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are many users of Oracle Database.

My company can plan to increase the number of users since it is a scalable product. You just need to increase from a single or one node cluster to support more users.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with SQL Server. My company switched from SQL Server to Oracle Database as a Service since we found the latter to be one of the best products in the market.

How was the initial setup?

Oracle Database as a Service's initial setup phase has become easier compared to its complex nature ten years ago. Oracle Database as a Service has become easy to operate even when it comes to the advanced installation part.

Considering that all the prerequisite requirements are met, Oracle Database as a Service's deployment phase can be completed in a day.

For the deployment phase, you need to get involved in some hardware provisioning, after which you need to see to it that all the prerequisites for the deployment process are met before choosing to install Oracle Database as a Service, and you can create your database.

What about the implementation team?

My company did not see any help from any consultants for the deployment phase of Oracle Database as a Service.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Oracle Database as a Service is an expensive product.

What other advice do I have?

Oracle Database as a Service is a well-integrated tool with other products.

If you want an operational database and support for a mission critical system, then Oracle Database as a Service is your best product. I won't recommend small or mid-sized companies to go with Oracle Database as a Service. For a smaller database, I suggest SQL Server.

I rate the overall tool a ten out of ten.

I have been using Oracle Database as a Service for 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Oracle Database as a Service ten out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's on-premises scalability should be improved. Around 100 users, including analysts, database administrators, and developers, use the solution in our organization.

I rate Oracle Database as a Service an eight out of ten for scalability.

Powerful, scalable, and secure
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable aspect of the solution is its security, performance, and availability."
  • "There is room for improvement in the speed of the data migration process."

What is our primary use case?

Oracle's Database as a Service has the potential to support both artificial intelligence and machine learning, but it seems that its capabilities in these areas have yet to be fully developed.

What is most valuable?

Security is a critical aspect for us, as well as the process of patching and updating the system.

The availability of the system is ensured by running it on two on-premise servers, which are identical and located separately.

The most valuable aspect of the solution is its security, performance, and availability.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in the speed of the data migration process.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Oracle Database as a Service for a few years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Oracle Database as a Service is highly scalable.

We have eight users who use the solution for project management, which we deploy for our clients. However, this is not the primary function of our own work. As an example, one of our clients has 50 users running a similar deployment.

In addition to our own usage, the solution is also used by the company we have contracted for core banking.

We purchase the solution from them and they take care of its deployment and management. Therefore, we are not directly involved in the deployment process.

While we initially went with Oracle, our clients are now the ones who are involved in the deployment process for the core banking solution.

How are customer service and support?

I have only contacted technical support through proxy.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we were working with MySQL.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is generally considered straightforward, although there may be some challenges, particularly when new team members are introduced. However, once the team becomes familiar with the solution, the setup process becomes easier and more streamlined, even when working remotely.

Deploying the solution is generally considered to be easy, with the only major challenge being the migration of data from another database to this one.

The data migration process can be complex and time-consuming.

What about the implementation team?

To deploy the solution, it is important to have the correct hardware specifications in place. Once these specifications have been met, and the necessary hardware is available, the deployment process can begin.

Once the database has been installed and configured, the system should be up and running.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

What has been done is that an annual subscription model has been launched, which includes the payment of both the AML (Annual Maintenance Fee) and the subscription fee, paid on a yearly basis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated both SQL and MySQL, and I have found that MySQL lacks the interactivity and capacity compared to SQL.

Oracle is typically chosen when a highly robust and reliable system is required.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to other users.

I would rate Oracle Database as a Service a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Reliable and available but is too expensive
Pros and Cons
  • "The functionality is good."
  • "We'd like to see better support for non-structured data and in-memory load."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the on-premises version as our country does not allow the use of the cloud. We primarily use the solution as a database.

How has it helped my organization?

We like the fact that it is very reliable. It's also very available. It's easy to find Oracle resources in our part of the world, and it's easy to replicate over other data centers.

What is most valuable?

The functionality is good. It's flexible and easy to adjust.

It is very reliable.

The partitioning has been very useful. We like that we can do replication and indexing.

The solution is stable.

It can scale, however, the cloud deployment would scale more easily.

What needs improvement?

The solution is very expensive.

We'd like to see better support for non-structured data and in-memory load. That would help with applications we need to cache.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for over ten years now. I've used it since about 2006 or 2008.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. I'd rate it nine out of ten. It is reliable, and the performance is good. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. I'd rate it six out of ten. On-premises is less scalable than the cloud.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support could be better. They should have more publicly available assistance instead of having a subscription.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We do use a bit of PostgreSQL.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex. I'd rate the ease of setup three out of ten. You need to understand the file system, and you need to understand Oracle very well before setup. It's not like Microsoft, where there is a setup Wizard to guide you. You need very specific knowledge.

The setup might take a day or two in terms of deployment. However, you need to put in the tables and build the applications on top of that, and that part can take several months.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the setup in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'd rate the pricing one out of ten. It is way too expensive. We do need to pay extra for other modules, for example, for partitioning and compression. You can also pay extra for assistance. It's already too much, and then they make you pay even more.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look at SQL and MongoDB since starting with the solutions. However, we did not look at anything before choosing Oracle.

What other advice do I have?

We're customers and end-users.

We have been using Oracle ERP for some time and are moving from on-premises to the cloud.

I'd advise users to pay attention to licensing as it can get very, very expensive. Definitely look into other databases.

I would rate the solution seven out of ten as it is the market leader and is very stable.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Has good performance, replication, and active data
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the tool’s database services. I like the system’s performance, replication, active data, etc. which are all good."
  • "The solution provides the same type of RDBMS engine for all use cases. They need to provide different products that will be suitable for all use cases. The solution does not support the documentation of databases."

What is our primary use case?

We use the tool to store data.

How has it helped my organization?

All our payment engines run on databases which are the heart of our entire ecosystem.

What is most valuable?

I like the tool’s database services. I like the system’s performance, replication, active data, etc. which are all good.

What needs improvement?

The solution provides the same type of RDBMS engine for all use cases. They need to provide different products that will be suitable for all use cases. The solution does not support the documentation of databases.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for the past 15 years. We plan to migrate to licensing. We are now at 11g and plan to migrate to 19c.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate the solution a ten out of ten. It is a wonderful database engine.
