Warranty is better as it comes with lifetime replacement, and its web interface is good
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the biggest things in HPE ProCurve that I like, though not necessarily a feature, is the HPE warranty because it's probably better than any of the other vendors that we deal with, as it has a lifetime replacement. Feature-wise, the web interface of HPE ProCurve is typically pretty good and I like that as well."
  • "An area for improvement in HPE ProCurve is the web interface not being as robust because you still have to go to the COI to make modifications or look at the exact configuration."

What is our primary use case?

The HPE ProCurve, we've used mostly with businesses, either enterprise networks and/or some manufacturing. We've worked and used the solution in a core setup and edge switches.

What is most valuable?

One of the biggest things in HPE ProCurve that I like, though not necessarily a feature, is the HPE warranty because it's probably better than any of the other vendors that we deal with, as it has a lifetime replacement. Feature-wise, the web interface of HPE ProCurve is typically pretty good and I like that as well.

What needs improvement?

An area for improvement in HPE ProCurve is the web interface not being as robust because you still have to go to the COI to make modifications or look at the exact configuration.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been dealing with HPE ProCurve for quite a few years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

HPE ProCurve is a stable product. We've had issues with POE switches, particularly the POE ports burning up, but without POE, HPE ProCurve is pretty much a "put it in, let it run" type of product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

HPE ProCurve seems to be scalable because my company went four or six as far as the number in a core stack before, but the product has been fairly scalable to do distribution to a lot of edges.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for HPE ProCurve has been good, but mostly the issue my company had was burnt out or equipment failure and support has been very good to get to the point of shipping a replacement switch quickly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for HPE ProCurve is easy. It's pretty good because, from the factory reset with a console cable, you can set an initial IP address and be up and running fairly quickly.

What was our ROI?

I've seen ROI from HPE ProCurve, but I couldn't really give a good number on that.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing for HPE ProCurve is a one-time cost, though it's varied somewhat. What my company purchased was usually between $3,500 and $5,000 one-time cost.

What other advice do I have?

HPE had started migrating to the Arubas, or at least in the market that my company deals with a while back, so that's pretty much all that my company has been dealing with lately, particularly the HPE layer three switches that replaced the HPE ProCurve. HPE pretty much replaced a lot of the product line with Aruba, so my company works with Aruba switches from HPE, and that's the HPE ProCurve now. It's what HPE migrated to, particularly with the small to mid-market businesses here.

In terms of the number of users of HPE ProCurve, one of the larger systems my company deals with has around five hundred users. For maintenance, there's typically just one person, so it's a low-maintenance product.

My advice to others looking into implementing HPE ProCurve is that it's a fairly good platform because my company does about four or five other different systems, but one of the biggest things with HPE ProCurve is that its web interface will get you 95% there, but you still have to know or learn the CLI commands to be able to do what you need when you get into more complex scenarios with VLANs and trunking and core aggregation.

I would rate HPE ProCurve nine out of ten.

My company is an integrator of HPE ProCurve, but it doesn't have a formal partnership with HPE, unlike what it has with Dell, Cisco, or some of the other brands.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

A stable and scalable product useful in business networks that can be installed with ease
Pros and Cons
  • "The product's stability is good. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
  • "HPE ProCurve's web interface is old, and I have to log in on each device separately, making them the product's shortcomings that need improvement."

What is our primary use case?

HPE ProCurve is used mostly in business networks.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are its stability and the web page that allows me to monitor it.

What needs improvement?

My company switched from HPE ProCurve to Ubiquiti UniFi since we wanted one solution for our entire network. In general, HPE ProCurve should have more capabilities to offer. HPE ProCurve's web interface is old, and I have to log in on each device separately, making them the product's shortcomings that need improvement. With Ubiquiti UniFi, I have my login page where I can see every network on every company I manage.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with HPE ProCurve. I don't remember the version of the solution I use, but I know it's an old one, and I still use it.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product's stability is good. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product's scalability is good.

How are customer service and support?

My company does not need to avail of the services from the solution's technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of HPE ProCurve is straightforward.

We have carried out the solution's setup phases in our company for the past six to seven years.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

Regarding the solution's installation phase, I can say that it is a PnP device.

Regarding the deployment process, you just need to use the screws to install and tighten the product in your work environment.

There is no requirement for someone to be involved in the maintenance and deployment of the solution.

What about the implementation team?

I am the consultant who carried out our company's product installation process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is no need to pay for the solution's license.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company switched to another brand from HPE ProCurve. The platform we chose has more capabilities for management when compared to HPE ProCurve.

What other advice do I have?

To those planning to use the product, I would say that it is a very good and stable switch.

I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Allows allocating resources efficiently, but the technical support services need improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was straightforward."
  • "The product could improve scalability and support for advanced networking features."

What is our primary use case?

We use HPE ProCurve as an access layer device in our office environment. It aggregates end-user connections, making it effective for small to medium-sized setups. For example, in an office with 30 to 40 users needing wired network connections, the ProCurve offers a cost-effective solution that meets basic networking needs without the complexity or cost associated with more advanced devices.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution has met our current networking needs without negatively impacting network efficiency. It has provided a reliable and budget-friendly option for our organization. However, due to its limited feature set, it may not be suitable for rapidly scaling networks.

What is most valuable?

The product's most valuable feature is its cost-effectiveness. It allows us to allocate resources more efficiently by offering essential networking features at a fraction of the cost of competitors like Cisco.

What needs improvement?

The product could improve scalability and support for advanced networking features. Including advanced interfaces like QSFP and enhanced support for AI-driven network solutions would make it more competitive in environments requiring higher performance and scalability.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has proven stable in our current setup.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's scalability is somewhat limited. While it performs well in small—to medium-sized environments, its restricted feature set may become a bottleneck in larger, rapidly growing networks.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with HPE's customer service for their networking devices has been adequate but could have been more exceptional. The support provided is satisfactory, though there is room for improvement in response time and the level of support for networking products.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have previously worked with Huawei and am currently working with HPE. The switch was driven by specific project requirements and the need to evaluate different vendors.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. HPE provides features like zero-touch provisioning and PXE support, simplifying installation. The expertise required is generally medium to low, making it accessible to most IT professionals.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment was handled in-house. The process was efficient, requiring only two people for the physical installation and one person for the configuration, integration, and service provisioning.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

HPE ProCurve is competitively priced, with a difference of approximately 30 to 35% compared to other vendors like Cisco. This makes it a viable option for businesses with limited budgets, particularly those that do not require extensive networking features.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated solutions from other vendors, such as Cisco, Arista, and Juniper, in addition to HPE. These options were considered based on their advanced networking features and scalability.

What other advice do I have?

The platform is a good starting point for small and medium-sized enterprises. However, as your business grows and requires more advanced networking features, you might need to consider alternative solutions that offer better scalability and support for more complex environments.

I rate it a seven out of ten.

Unbreakable with competitive pricing and an easy deployment
Pros and Cons
  • "The pricing is quite competitive."
  • "I don't have any recommendations for areas of improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for LAN connections.

What is most valuable?

They have been very good and are pretty much unbreakable switches. It's a very stable solution. You can just plug them in, configure them, and leave them.

The pricing is quite competitive.

It is easy to deploy.

It's already pretty secure. There aren't any issues around that,

What needs improvement?

I don't have any recommendations for areas of improvement. Overall, it's been very good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution from the beginning. I've used it for more than 20 years. The main equipment became Cisco more than two years ago. Now, I'm using only using two to four HP ProCurve products.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. It's robust and reliable. there are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is a data center. There aren't "users" per se.

How are customer service and support?

We've never had to reach out to technical support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they would be.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've used Cisco in the past and find this product to be less expensive.

How was the initial setup?

The solution offers a simple implementation. It's not complex or difficult. You just have to take the time to configure it with the LAN and that's it.

How are customer service and support?

The support from HPE is very good.

How was the initial setup?
