We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like that they have some new devices that are simpler to use because they kind of tie right into the cloud.""The most valuable feature is the backups."

"Includes snapshots and multiple database agents.""Good graphical user interface. It's easy to create policies and to do installs.""Management interface was simple to use once understood.""Veritas NetBackup Automatic Image Replication and CloudCatalyst features allow me to replicate deduped backup images from one site to a remote site, as well as duplicating deduped images to the Cloud (i.e. AWS S3, etc.)""The main thing I like about NetBackup is CloudPoint. You can take a snapshot of the endpoint and back it up with CloudPoint. The data backups are the most important.""The backup and restore features are helpful.""Could be used for both of Physical and Virtual Environments.""Veritas NetBackup is very stable and scales out very well."

Cons
"StorageCraft ShadowXafe should improve the on-premises console management controls and protection and recovery.""Their restoration protocols could be better. I pulled all my clients out of their cloud mostly because I wasn't confident that they could restore out of the cloud. This was backed up by friends who had been burned by stuff like that. We moved away because of the lack of resources to restore from a potential catastrophic failure. It's challenging, and in some cases, they couldn't do it because they didn't have enough resources. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody."

"The product is not able to keep up with other competitors in the market.""There is room for improvement in the implementation of Power servers.""The product needs to improve its GUI. It needs to make use of a web interface.""The database integration could be better.""When the customer is using SaaS applications like Office 365, the integration falls short and needs to be improved.""There could be granular control over metadata components, specifically in the context of JSON data for the product.""Support for the solution needs improvement.""The ability to use different disk appliance brands as Pure Disk (not OST), such as EMC Data Domain ."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They are more expensive than some of the others out there. We have gone away from their cloud due to pricing."
  • More StorageCraft ShadowXafe [EOL] Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
  • "Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
  • "So far I can only say that the license structure could be looked at to be aligned as either capacity-based or traditional."
  • "If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
  • "The software and license are very expensive."
  • "Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
  • "Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
  • "The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."

    Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
