We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"ODI's most valuable features are it utilizes the database engine and is very lightweight.""It has the ability to easily load slowly changing dimensions.""Easy to understand, very developer-friendly, and has a big forum community and lots of documentation for support.""It is an ETL tool, which does the extract, transform, and load.""It's completely user-friendly.""I like that Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) has a straightforward setup and offers good technical support.""In our DW/BI solution, ODI is the main tool to integrate the data in a daily batch way.""All ETL code is stored in repositories in underlying database schemas. The number of users can access and work on the same solution using a client tool. So distributed teams can work on this tool in an efficient manner."

"It is quite scalable.""GoldenGate enables us to merge and transform data from various sources in real time. It's a powerful tool that can read and load most data sources.""What I like most about Oracle GoldenGate is that it supports cross-platform migrations. For example, Oracle GoldenGate could pump data from one type of system to another such as the data from Oracle DB to SQL Db2.""This solution has a well-known procedure for troubleshooting and tuning the performance, providing for smooth operation.""For small databases, GoldenGate handles the migration well.""They've recently improved the ease of implementation.""The solution's existing SaaS platform for data integration gives us an edge.""This solution provides us with real-time replication and it does not affect the performance of other operations, which is very important to us."

More Oracle GoldenGate Pros →

"Naturally produces a way to easily debug your DW data solutions.""WhereScape's deployment package is a fantastic feature. The application allows for selecting specific objects that you would like to deploy from one environment to another rather than deploying the entire database.""Support is absolutely excellent, efficient, and timely.""Quickly develops a data warehouse for our organization with documentation and can track back/forward features.""It has a built-in automatic scheduling environment.""WhereScape RED has improved our business's ability to generate needed reporting without requiring a large team of developers to manually code all of the necessary plumbing.""The tool supports multiple target update methods.""The most valuable feature is the metadata generated code."

Cons
"The performance of the user interface is in need of improvement.""An area for improvement would be the lack of SQL compatibility - ODI has no ability to interact with SQL unstructured types and data types.""It lacks a suite of tools suitable for fully processing data and moving it into decision support warehouses.""ODI could improve by being more user-friendly. Informatica, which is also an ETL tool, similar to ODI, but Informatica is very user-friendly, easy to use, and simple to integrate, compared to ODI. ODI has many features, put them all together, and sometimes we get confused about which ones to use, which ones not to use.""Technical Support could be better.""It would be really good if Oracle considered enabling the tool to integrate with some other platforms that are deprecated simply for commercial reasons""If you have something like Cisco on top of it, you will have endless problems.""Overall the product is fine, but sometimes its reports unknown errors while we compile ETL scripts."

More Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Cons →

"In the future, I would appreciate a more user-friendly monitoring interface for easier management and troubleshooting.""In some cases, expectations were not met, especially when specific tables were expected to be disabled, and changes were anticipated in the target environment. We had to take backups from the source and refresh the address to address this.""We struggle with memory. It's limited. However, it may be because of our unique business case and how we use it that it's limiting for us.""Technical support for Oracle products needs to be more efficient (at least locally in Egypt).""The GoldenGate license is very costly.""The solution, in general, should be easier to use, with less need to perform workarounds within the system.""It's stable but you have to know how to maintain it. That's why it's not 10 out of 10 for me. There are some bugs, there are some issues here and there. All of a sudden your process is not working and you have to figure out why, and sometimes it's not so clear.""It should be easier to integrate this solution with non-Oracle databases, including cloud-based solutions hosted on Azure."

More Oracle GoldenGate Cons →

"They need a more robust support center. It has been a bit difficult to find solutions to problems that are out-of-the-box.""Technical support isn't the best.""It could use a tool to diagnose what is missing from the environment for WhereScape to install successfully.""Customization could be better.""The solution can be a little more user-friendly on enterprise-level where people use it.""Project-based searching of data objects in the data warehouse browser needs to be improved.""The scheduled jobs which are run by the WhereScape scheduler seem to be a strangely separate animal. Unlike all other WhereScape objects, jobs cannot be added to WhereScape projects. Also, unlike all other objects, jobs also cannot be deleted using a WhereScape deployment application.""Jobs cannot be deleted via the deployment package. When deploying from dev to QA or production, a job has to be retired. The job has to be manually removed from the target environment."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Being an ODI developer, I never had to pay for this product. I know that the pricing/licensing is not really low, but the product is really good."
  • "We found that the cost compared to other integration tools is a little high, but the solution works great."
  • "The solution is expensive because of the model they use. The cost is for the license and for support."
  • "ODI comes included when buying the cloud version of the Oracle database license."
  • "There is a standard license to use the solution but there are other costs in addition, such as hardware and operating system."
  • "Per user, it is $900 USD per year, though they will give some discount. However, even a 60% to 70% of discount for each won't help us much. On top of that, there is the perpetual license you must pay at the outset."
  • "I have yet to determine the exact figure for Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pricing, but it has lower pricing than Informatica."
  • "The Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pricing isn't expensive, but it's not cheap, so it's in the middle. I'd rate the pricing as three out of five."
  • More Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The one feature that I think Oracle could perhaps consider is, at the moment, the Veridata option is an extra cost. Golden Gate is an expensive product. You pay a lot for the best. But not including the Veridata license to prove that everything is working correctly... The big improvement for me would be to have that license built in. That would take it to the next level. That would make it a much better product. You may want to look at buying term licenses if you've just got a single migration to do. In that situation, you might want a term license for perhaps a year to save a lot of money, rather than buying a perpetual license."
  • "The licensing model should be improved to be more cost-effective for the end users."
  • "We do like the price of this solution."
  • "Pricing is based on anual licensing with additional costs for support packages."
  • "The price of this solution is good."
  • "We have an enterprise license for it. It might be for three years or so. I'm not aware of any additional costs to the standard licensing fee."
  • "Its price can be better. It is a bit crazy, and its licensing is very difficult to understand. I would rate it one out of five in terms of pricing. There don't seem to be any additional costs."
  • "We have purchased corporate licensing to use Oracle GoldenGate."
  • More Oracle GoldenGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Factor in the price of specialized consulting who know this product. They're hard to find and expensive."
  • "ROI is at least 10 times."
  • "Speed to market of a warehouse solution at a relatively inexpensive price point."
  • "Our company purchased a corporate unlimited license."

    Overview

Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is a data integration software solution that provides a unified infrastructure to streamline data and application integration projects. It uses a powerful design approach to data integration, which separates the declarative rules from the implementation details. The solution is based on a unique ELT (Extract Load Transform) architecture, eliminating the need for a standalone ETL server and proprietary engine.

    Oracle Data Integrator Features

ODI has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

    • Automatic documentation generation
    • Visualization of data flows in the interfaces
    • Customization of generated code

    Oracle Data Integrator Benefits

There are many benefits to implementing ODI. Some of the biggest advantages the solution offers include:

    • Efficient architecture: Oracle Data Integrator has a simple architecture that utilizes the source and target servers to perform complex transformations, making it an efficient solution.
    • Supports all platforms: ODI gives you platform independence by supporting all platforms, hardware, and OSes with the same software.
    • Cost-effective: Oracle Data Integrator reduces costs associated with initial hardware and software acquisition, and also decreases maintenance costs because it eliminates the need for an ETL Server and an ETL engine.
    • Automatic detection of faulty data: By using ODI, faulty data is recycled before insertion in the target application, providing you with a data quality firewall.
    • Easy development and maintenance: With a low learning curve, Oracle Data Integrator increases developer productivity while facilitating ongoing maintenance.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) solution.

Brian D., Business Process and Strategy Specialist Advisor at NTTData, says, “The Knowledge Module (KM) is my favorite feature of ODI. This is where I learned how to use variables to make jobs dynamic. I took that knowledge and created a KM that would go into iTunes and pull the sales of eBooks. Making something that is reusable, like a KM, is important to not only reduce build time but also maintenance in the future.”

Ashok S., Applications Support Manager at a marketing services firm, mentions, "The most valuable features of ODI are the ease of development, you can have a template, and you can onboard transfer very quickly. There's a lot of knowledge modules available that we can use. If you want to connect, for example, a Sibyl, SQL, Oracle, or different products, we don't have to develop them from scratch. They are available, but if it's not, we can go into the marketplace and see if there's a connector there. Having the connector available reduces the amount of hard work needed. We only have to put the inputs and outputs. In some of the products, we use there is already integration available for ODI, which is helpful."

Oracle GoldenGate is a real-time data integration and database replication solution. It can detect data events and route them across networks at very low latencies and integrates well with 100s of combinations of non-Oracle databases, data stores, and clouds.

    Oracle GoldenGate Features

Oracle GoldenGate has many valuable key features, including:

    • Simple to use web interface
    • Fast and easy installation or provisioning
    • Command line access via AdminClient that can run anywhere
    • RESTful APIs for DevOps
    • Offers built-in monitoring but also can be easily adapted to roll your own monitoring
    • APIs are protected by Cross Site Request Forgery (CSRF) authentication.

    Oracle GoldenGate Benefits

Some of the benefits of using Oracle GoldenGate include:

    • Oracle GoldenGate is deeply integrated with the Oracle Database (logging, redo, backup and recovery layer, security, administration, data guard, data vault, autonomous database etc.).

    • It is the most stable, performant, and reliable CDC / replication solution for Oracle.

    • High performance: Oracle GoldenGate is capable of sub-second latency for data movement. featuring low impact capture, routing, transformation, and delivery of transactional data.

    • GoldenGate is the only CDC / replication tool that keeps pace with new and emerging innovations (security, features, data types, etc) in the core Oracle Database.

    • The solution supports a wide range of use cases, from conventional OLTP data replication and high availability to data lake ingestion or multi-cloud ingestion, SaaS application replication, and messaging replication.
    • GoldenGate is the only CDC / replication technology certified for Exadata, Exadata Cloud Service, and Exadata Cloud at Customer.

    • For fault-tolerance, GoldenGate has its own mechanism to keep track of how much work is completed and how much is pending. This mechanism is independent of any database and ensures, with the help of automatic gap-resolution, that no data loss occurs.

    • GoldenGate uses its own proprietary format files for keeping the committed data coming from the source database, making it independently functional irrespective of the database in use.

    • To maintain the performance and consistency, only committed data is sent. Uncommitted data is captured by GoldenGate, but is discarded after receiving a Rollback.

    • With GoldenGate, data sending is in “near real time,” which reduces the possibility of latency.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Oracle GoldenGate users.

PeerSpot user Steve-J., Cloud Migration Software Consultant - UK & EMEA at 1PLACE, says, "What I have found the most valuable about GoldenGate is that it does real-time and no-downtime migrations. Its migrations are fast. There are not many tools like it on the marketplace."

Pinak S., Senior Manager of System and Database at ESL, mentions, “We like how in GoldenGate the heterogeneous database is supported. Sometimes the client actually needs a schedule and needs to ensure the state of databases for reporting purposes. With that in mind, we have been able to configure GoldenGate for certain schema. The solution is quite stable. They've recently improved the ease of implementation.”

A Database Administrator at a manufacturing company explains, "It moves the data as you set it up, and it works. I am also very impressed with its stability and scalability. It is not super feature-rich, but the new releases have more functionality. It recently had more native integrations with Oracle Database. If you are using it against an Oracle database, it has a lot more functionality."

An Oracle ERP DBA Consultant - Oracle Super Cluster T5-8 Admin at a government comments, "GoldenGate can connect and collect data from multiple sources, such as SQL Server."
