Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability to develop scripts in Visual Studio, Visual Studio integration, is the most valuable feature.""The scalability of the solution is quite good. You can easily expand the product if you need to.""The major thing it has helped with is to reduce the workload on testing activities.""The feature I like most is the ease of reporting.""The statistics that are available are very good.""A good automation tool that supports SAP functional testing.""Scripting is the most valuable. We are able to record and then go in and modify the script that it creates. It has a lot of generative scripts."

"The high-level security, high standard and compatible SAP are great.""Has improved our organization by allowing us to obtain fast, detailed information about the behavior of our products and to supply this to the customer, enabling us to work together without the need for special programming knowledge.""The production and the efficiency of making your test cases can be very high.""Compared to other products, UFT One is better, faster, and more accurate.""It's easy to use for beginners and non-technical people.""The stop automation is a great feature.""The best feature of UFT by far is its compatibility with a large variety of products, tools and technologies. It is currently a challenge to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully automate tests for so many projects and environments.""Hidden among the kitchen sink of features is a new Data Generation tool called the Test Combinations Generator."

"You can quickly build automated testing, manage it, and have it run on a regular basis to ensure that there are no issues.""Compared to other tools we have been looking at, you don't have to be a programmer to operate it, though it helps. It also a product that can be used by business people.""The most valuable feature of Tricentis Tosca is it is a completely scriptless automation tool, which I liked a lot. They keep on continuously improving their tools, wherever we are facing any challenges they are able to provide a solution for it. It is easy to learn, everyone can easily read and understand what is happening with the scripts. Any business user or function tester can use the tool efficiently. This is a complete solution package.""The reporting is really nice.""It has helped teams within our organization become more aware of the testing requirements in terms of risk and priority.""We are satisfied with the support of Tricentis.""The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are all the test automation functionality. It is a full-scale automation tool.""Software testing tool that has multiple features. It's good to use for SAP testing, and it helps reduce test execution time."

Cons
"Everything is very manual. It's up to us to find out exactly what the issues are.""The solution has a lack of compatibility with newer technologies.""The pricing is an issue, the program is very expensive. That is something that can improve.""Could be more user-friendly on the installation and configuration side.""They should extend some of the functions that are a bit clunky and improve the integration.""The support for automation with iOS applications can be better.""We moved to Ranorex because the solution did not easily scale, and we could not find good and short term third-party help. We needed to have a bigger pool of third-party contractors that we could draw on for specific implementations. Silk didn't have that, and we found what we needed for Ranorex here in the Houston area. It would be good if there is more community support. I don't know if Silk runs a user conference once a year and how they set up partners. We need to be able to talk to somebody more than just on the phone. It really comes right down to that. The generated automated script was highly dependent upon screen position and other keys that were not as robust as we wanted. We found the automated script generated by Ranorex and the other key information about a specific data point to be more robust. It handled the transition better when we moved from computer to computer and from one size of the application to the other size. When we restarted Silk, we typically had to recalibrate screen elements within the script. Ranorex also has some of these same issues, but when we restart, it typically is faster, which is important."

More OpenText Silk Test Cons →

"One area for improvement is its occasional slowness.""The solution is expensive.""It doesn't support Telerik UI controls and we are currently looking for a patch for this.""Micro Focus UFT One could benefit from creating modules that are more accessible to non-technical users. Without a developer background or at least basic knowledge of VBScript, using Micro Focus UFT One may not be feasible for everyone. This is something that Micro Focus, now owned by OpenText, should consider in order to cater to business professionals as well. While Micro Focus UFT One does have a recording function, it still requires a certain level of IT proficiency to create effective automation, which may be challenging for those outside of the technical field.""The scripting language could be improved. They're currently using Visual Basic, but I think that people need something more advanced, like Python or Java.""One thing that confused me, and now just mildly irritates me, is that we migrated from QuickTest Pro to HP UFT, Unified Functional Test. After we did the migration, it turned out that we didn't really have Unified Functional Test at all.""We used to run it as a test suite. Micro Focus provides that in terms of a test management tool as ALM, but when we think of integrating with a distributed version control system, like Jenkins, there isn't much integration available. That means we need to make use of external solutions to make it work.""We have had some issues with stability, where it crashes sometimes."

More OpenText UFT One Cons →

"The reporting function was lacking in usability and detail.""There have been some setbacks because of upgrades. While Tosca has been around for a while, Tricentis has catered to smaller clients and I don't think they have done such a large, at-scale transition or transformation before or worked with a company like ours, which is doing an enterprise-wide transformation. When we go to their customer advisory-board meetings, upgrades have been an issue. They have been working a lot to make upgrades seamless.""It needs better integration with JIRA.""The tool lags in client-based applications. We have also encountered issues with the features in integrations.""It is quite difficult to integrate the solution with other tools.""Running the regression – if multiple lists are executed at once or if a list contains 200+ tests, it’s a pain to stop the execution.""The solution should work with the Linux platform. Right now, it only runs on Windows.""I would like a better user interface."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis, and while I think that the price is quite reasonable I am not allowed to share those details."
  • "We paid annually. There is a purchase cost, and then there is an ongoing maintenance fee."
  • More OpenText Silk Test Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."
  • More OpenText UFT One Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is an expensive tool compared to other test automation tools. It has a lot of advantages over other tools."
  • "Expensive, but for long-term projects, it is paying back."
  • "The pricing is high, but altogether it offers you the ability to automate all sorts of applications: desktop, web, mobile, etc."
  • "We hired a consultant to figure out all the tools in our company and how they fit in our company before we purchased the solution."
  • "Tricentis Tosca may be relatively on the higher side in terms of pricing, but their sales rep can give pretty decent deals when asked."
  • "We have around 200 [concurrent] licenses and the cost around $1.4 million a year."
  • "My understanding is that it's an expensive product, although I don't know the specifics with regards to pricing."
  • "I would like to see better costing packs. There are several features but USD $11,000 for one license is expensive."
