We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability to easily pull together lots of different pieces of information and drill down in a smarter way than has been possible with other analytics tools is key. Watson is all based on a set of AI and deep learning, machine-learning capabilities, and it is looking behind the scenes at some relationships that you likely would not have spotted on your own. It's pulling things together, categorizing some things, that are not something that you might have seen on your own.""The valuable feature of Watson Explorer for us is data entities, and to see the hidden insights from within unstructured data.""For me, as a user, the most valuable feature is the ability to ingest and then retrieve information from a range of separate sources; the ability to dissect questions in context and actually answer them.""Ease of use is pretty good as is the standardization of not actually having to have my own natural learning algorithms, just to use the Watson APIs.""We take natural language that was happening in our repositories and our application and then feed it to the Watson APIs. We receive JSON payloads as an API response to get cognitive feedback from the repository data.""I have found the auto-generated document very useful as well as the main keywords that are highlighted, which are used for the search functionality within IBM Watson Explorer."

"The DAX coding language is good for creating formulae.""It is low-cost and easy to deploy. It is fully-featured.""Connectivity, installation, and configuration are pretty fast and seamless compared to Cognos.""Easy to use and the visualization is valuable.""Constant collaboration is the most valuable. I can build a dashboard, and several co-workers can access this dashboard. We can share information that is important for decision-making. It is a very easy-to-deploy solution. It is compatible with a lot of data sources. It is also very stable and scalable. There is also a very good forum and a lot of help and online training.""Other people can access data much more easily than before. Its usability is the main advantage, people in the company are using it.""There is continual improvement year-over-year.""Premium features that used to cost $5,000 per company per month recently became a lot more accessible. Microsoft recently implemented a per user feature in Power BI Premium; it's $20 per month."

"Pyramid has a wide level of uses, as it's a complete ETL process and has a good level of connecting to a lot of data sources.""The features I find most valuable are 'Discover,' 'Formulate,' and 'Model.' I use them regularly to build logic and create reports for my job.""It seems quite performant in analyzing multi-dimensional information sets and presenting them.""The on-premise version has quite good scalability.""It offers a wide range of analytics options including statistics and visualizations, as well as prediction capabilities, allowing users to make forecasts based on the latest data.""I think the most valuable Pyramid Analytics feature is the solution's ability to drill down and dice in the loop. I think it is better than InExcel or Power BI.""The most valuable feature of Pyramid Analytics, outshining even top-tier platforms like Power BI, is its robust support for DAX queries.""It proved to be a very powerful and useful tool due to its breakdown capabilities, easy reporting features, flexibility in building custom calculations, and the ability to integrate them into reports."

Cons
"It needs better language support, to include some other languages. Also, they should improve the user interface.""The solution is expensive.""More cognitive feedback would be good. The natural language analysis is great, the sentiment analyzers are great. But I would just like to see more... innovation done with the Watson platform.""I would say, give some kind of a community edition, a free edition. A lot of companies do, even Amazon gives you some kind of trial and error opportunities. If they could provide something like that, it would be good.""Stability is actually one of the areas that could use improvement. Setting it up is always tough. Setting Explorer requires experts, but also the underlying platform is not that stable. So it really needs a good expert to keep it running.""Much of IBM operates this way, where they have sets of tools that are in the middleware space, and it becomes the customer's responsibility or the business partner's responsibility to develop full solutions that take advantage of that middleware. I think IBM's finding itself in that spot with Watson-related technologies as well, where the capabilities to do really interesting and useful things for customers is there, but somebody still has to build it. Is that going to be the customer? Are they going to be willing to take on that responsibility themselves""It is a little bit tricky to get used to the workflow of knowing how to train Watson, what can be provided, what can't be, how to provide it, how to import, export, and what it means every time you have to add a new dictionary""Small businesses will probably have a little harder time getting into it, just because of the amount of resources that they have available, both financial and time, but it really is a solution that should work for them."

More IBM Watson Explorer Cons →

"I would like to see the product offer more graphics to impact different audiences.""It needs more graphics and overlays.""The smart phone application could be improved, along with better graphics and faster updating.""Power BI doesn't support some open-source data sources that are new, such as SnowSQL, Iceberg, or ClickHouse.""Microsoft needs to do some more research and development to make it more stable.""When you go to the cloud, its licensing is not intuitive. It is a little bit complex. When you have to purchase a new license, it is difficult to understand on their website what exactly you need to pay and how you can group. It is something that is applicable to all Microsoft products. They're not always so simple and clear when it comes to licensing. Their support can also be better in terms of explaining how they resolved an issue and what steps they took to resolve it. They are able to resolve the issue, but they can be better at explaining the approach they took to resolve the issue. It could have something in the direction of machine learning. It can have some kind of integration with machine learning where you can ask for some reports with natural language.""In an upcoming release, the solution could be simplified and have a more complete product package rather than a suite of products that we have to put together.""The Power Query feature needs to be improved to handle large amounts of data. This feature is also slow for large data transfers making it better to use some kind of script."

More Microsoft Power BI Cons →

"It would be desirable to have the possibility to generate a data dictionary, detailing the original physical tables, renamed fields, and derived fields.""There is room for improvement in terms of the user interface, particularly when it comes to modifying connections between filters and visual components in a dashboard.""There is room for improvement in terms of documentation and examples, especially for newcomers like me who are learning both business intelligence and Pyramid.""The general amount of negative comments that I am hearing from my team makes me very wary.""I find that this is quite a heavy, time-consuming tool for developers.""I think the graphic number of charts and components could be higher, at least comparable to Brain Power BI.""Even though the solution has a functionality for every step, it's not so well- defined. That needs to be improved.""Pyramid Analytics could improve by speeding up data refresh, especially for large datasets."
