We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"GitGuardian Internal Monitoring has helped increase our secrets detection rate by several orders of magnitude. This is a hard metric to get. For example, if we knew what our secrets were and where they were, we wouldn't need GitGuardian or these types of solutions. There could be a million more secrets that GitGuardian doesn't detect, but it is basically impossible to find them by searching for them.""Some of our teams have hundreds of repositories, so filtering by team saves a lot of time and effort.""I like that GitGuardian automatically notifies the developer who committed the change. The security team doesn't need to act as the intermediary and tell the developer there is an alert. The alert goes directly to the developer.""I like GitGuardian's instant response. When you have an incident, it's reported immediately. The interface gives you a great overview of your current leaked secrets.""The most valuable feature is the alerts when secrets are leaked and we can look at particular repositories to see if there are any outstanding problems. In addition, the solution's detection capabilities seem very broad. We have no concerns there.""It enables us to identify leaks that happened in the past and remediate current leaks as they happen in near real-time. When I say "near real-time," I mean within minutes. These are industry-leading remediation timelines for credential leaks. Previously, it might have taken companies years to get credentials detected or remediated. We can do it in minutes.""The entire GitGuardian solution is valuable. The product is doing its job and showing us many things. We get many false positives, but the ability to automatically display potential leaks when developers commit is valuable. The dashboards show you recent and historical commits, and we have a full scan that shows historical leaked secrets.""You can also assign tasks to specific teams or people to complete, such as assigning something to the "blue team" or saying that this person needs to do this, and that person needs to do that. That is a great feature because you can actually manage your team internally in GitGuardian."

"The UI is easy to use.""On DLP terms, Zscaler Cloud DLP ensures that data doesn't go outside of the organization. So on the network level, Zscaler does a pretty good job.""Zscaler Cloud DLP provides you with basic DLP features that you get out of the box such as keywords, regular expressions, and data identifiers, for example, your social security numbers, and credit card numbers, with everything built into the product, so you can directly use those features within the policies. You don't need to create it from scratch, and to me, this is the biggest benefit of Zscaler Cloud DLP. You have a lot of templates to choose from in the solution, rather than having to create templates from scratch or reinvent templates.""The customer service and support are very good.""You can close your data protection gaps with Zscaler. You can quickly find all the classified, sensitive data across the cloud.""The most valuable aspect of Zscaler Cloud DLP is its automatic DLP feature.""The solution is the best for storage.""It is a very scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."

Cons
"There is room for improvement in its integration for bug-tracking. It should be more direct. They have invested a lot in user management, but they need to invest in integrations. That is a real lack.""Right now, we are waiting for improvement in the RBAC support for GitGuardian.""One improvement that I'd like to see is a cleaner for Splunk logs. It would be nice to have a middle man for anything we send or receive from Splunk forwarders. I'd love to see it get cleaned by GitGuardian or caught to make sure we don't have any secrets getting committed to Splunk logs.""We have been somewhat confused by the dashboard at times.""The purchasing process is convoluted compared to Snyk, the other tool we use. It's like night and day because you only need to punch in your credit card, and you're set. With GitGuardian, getting a quote took two or three weeks. We paid for it in December but have not settled that payment yet.""It would be nice if they supported detecting PII or had some kind of data loss prevention feature.""Other solutions have a live chat feature that provides instant results. Waiting for an agent to reply to an email is less ideal than an instant conversation with a support employee. That's a complaint so minor I almost hesitate to mention it.""It took us a while to get new patterns introduced into the pattern reporting process."

"On the improvement side, when we bypass certain internet traffic types, it's currently recommended to have a one-click option, but audio and video aren't always supported. Thus, we need to bypass that kind of traffic. So, it is an area of improvement.""Zscaler Cloud DLP needs to improve its compatibility with other security tools.""The product must allow users to check logs for an entire year in the local console.""There could be additional ways to define proximity. Additionally, they should provide some exclusion options for specific policies and an ability to control the DLP engine.""You won't find anything that can help you with the configuration part and other areas related to the product if you search for proper or exact details of Zscaler Cloud DLP online in very easy language.""We have issues with the tool's maintenance and networking. It should be able to work in offline mode as well.""In the next release, I would like to see RE2 Regex supported.""Another area of improvement is implementation through non-client connectors. The solution can be implemented in two ways. One uses the back file; the other one uses client connectors. So the client connector is pretty fast, but when it comes to non-client connectors and procedures, it's kind of delayed and slow."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We don't have a huge number of users, but its yearly rate was quite reasonable when compared to other per-seat solutions that we looked at... Having a free plan for a small number of users was really great. If you're a small team, I don't see why you wouldn't want to get started with it."
  • "It's a little bit expensive."
  • "You get what you pay for. It's one of the more expensive solutions, but it is very good, and the low false positive rate is a really appealing factor."
  • "The pricing and licensing are fair. It isn't very expensive and it's good value."
  • "The internal side is cheap per user. It is annual pricing based on the number of users."
  • "We have seen a return on investment. The amount of time that we would have spent manually doing this definitely outpaces the cost of GitGuardian. It is saving us about $35,000 a year, so I would say the ROI is about $20,000 a year."
  • "It could be cheaper. When GitHub secrets monitoring solution goes to general access and general availability, GitGuardian might be in a little bit of trouble from the competition, and maybe then they might lower their prices. The GitGuardian solution is great. I'm just concerned that they're not GitHub."
  • "It's not cheap, but it's not crazy expensive either."

  • "It is an auto-renewal subscription service."
  • "The licensing model for Zscaler Cloud DLP allows you to only buy what you need. You don't need to buy it as a whole, so it's good."
  • "Zscaler DLP solution is expensive, with a fixed pricing structure that is billed annually and monthly. There are no additional costs for licenses."
  • "Zscaler Cloud DLP is moderately priced. We pay around 2 million rupees per year."
  • "The product is a little more expensive than other tools."
  • "It's expensive currently. But when purchasing for a large number of users, there's room to negotiate. It's really up to the procurement team."
  • "The product has reasonable pricing."
  • "The product is a bit expensive."

    Overview

GitGuardian helps organizations detect and fix vulnerabilities in source code at every step of the software development lifecycle. With GitGuardian’s policy engine, security teams can monitor and enforce rules across their VCS, DevOps tools, and infrastructure-as-code configurations.

Widely adopted by developer communities, GitGuardian is used by more than 500,000 developers and is the #1 app in the security category on the GitHub Marketplace. GitGuardian is also trusted by leading companies, including Instacart, Genesys, Orange, Iress, Beyond Identity, NOW: Pensions, and Stedi.

GitGuardian Platform includes automated secrets detection and remediation. By reducing the risks of secrets exposure across the SDLC, GitGuardian helps software-driven organizations strengthen their security posture and comply with frameworks and standards.

Its detection engine is trained against more than a billion public GitHub commits every year, and it covers 350+ types of secrets such as API keys, database connection strings, private keys, certificates, and more.

GitGuardian brings security and development teams together with automated remediation playbooks and collaboration features to resolve incidents fast and in full. By pulling developers closer to the remediation process, organizations can achieve higher incident closing rates and shorter fix times.

The platform integrates across the DevOps toolchain, including native support for continuously scanning VCS platforms like GitHub, Gitlab, Azure DevOps and Bitbucket or CI/CD tools like Jenkins, CircleCI, Travis CI, GitLab pipelines, and many more. It also integrates with ticketing and messaging systems like Splunk, PagerDuty, Jira and Slack to support teams with their incident remediation workflows. GitGuardian is offered as a SaaS platform but can also be hosted on-premise for organizations operating in highly regulated industries or with strict data privacy requirements.
