We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Provides good firewall security and has great VPN features.""The feature I like most is the SD-WAN. It allows you to manage more than one ISP at the same time. And there is a high-availability mode, so if one of your ISPs is down, you still have a backup.""Consolidated our network environment at all locations, but mainly at our datacenter.""Fortinet FortiGate's reliability is valuable.""The most important features of Fortinet FortiGate are the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and firewall control applications.""The most valuable feature is the SSL VPN, as it allows us to connect and it separates this product from other firewalls.""It can expand easily.""Security, SD-WAN, and Streetscape are valuable features."

"The VPN was valuable for us because more people are working from home. It has a lot of reporting and easy-to-use management tools.""The most valuable feature of Cisco IOS Security is posturing.""Cisco is head-and-shoulders above all of the competition when it comes to technical support.""Cisco Technical Assistance Center works on a follow-the-sun concept and gives real 24x7 customer support, which is a great advantage when you have a service contract with them.""Cisco products are very secure and integrate easily with other devices.""Cisco IOS allows us to keep the same security features as our principal offices.""I'm able to transfer data over internet network security. With the GRE I'm able to transfer data within one bunch to another bunch in a public way, like the internet. The communication is encrypted and is private. It gives me added privacy.""The product has valuable features for business intelligence."

Cons
"It would be nice if FortiGate incorporated some built-in endpoint protection features. I would also like a built-in SOC dashboard for managing multiple Fortinet firewalls.""It needs to improve its ISP load balancing.""FortiOS is not simple.""The user interface could be improved to make it less confusing and easier to set up.""I would like to see improvements in the support from Fortinet. Here in the Philippines, whenever we have problems with a Fortinet product, we mostly ask for support from distributors and resellers and not directly from Fortinet.""Performance and technical support are the main issues with this solution.""Some configuration elements cannot be easily altered once created.""The integration with third-party tools may be something that they should work on."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"An area for improvement in Cisco IOS Security is the performance because it's not as stable sometimes. There's also some latency in the solution, which could be improved. Cisco IOS Security integrates with other solutions, but you'll encounter many errors after integration, so this is another area for improvement. I'd like to see enhanced performance and a simplified setup in the next version of Cisco IOS Security.""If they could increase the performance a little better because the device sometimes gets slow.""With respect to user-friendliness, it is a command-line interface and those with such experience will get along just fine, whereas others may struggle.""I would love it if it has a link-by-link feature, integration with Unified Threat Management (UTM), and load balancers. They haven't got any link-by-link feature right now, which can be a very attractive option. This link-by-link feature can also be made available for Cisco's UTM firewalls. The link-by-link feature is available in some of the other firewalls. Currently, integration with UTM is missing. Cisco IOS Security also doesn't have the load balancers and a few things that need to be done to get a good UTM firewall. Normally, other firewalls have UTM. As a next-generation firewall, it's good, but as a UTM, it has to do some work.""The pricing is the only con for this product.""There are the usual bugs that are inherent to some software upgrades. Sometimes this provides some unexpected issues, however, it happens with all brands all the time.""In the security portfolio from Cisco, the issue is marketing. Cisco is still seen primarily as an enterprise network player rather than being acknowledged as a security vendor.""Cisco very slowly introduces and implements the products, unlike other brands."
