We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"One of the characteristics that give us the most value is that it offers the ability to perform HTTPS inspections.""At the time when this tool was launched on the market, it had new technologies integrated within.""Check Point GAiA is easy to use.""Full disk encryption helps us ensure that data stored on a device is encrypted."

More Check Point Pointsec [EOL] Pros →

"It maintains security on my computer. Since I travel a lot, it gives me confidence that if, for some reason, my computer is lost, my data won't be compromised.""Technical support is excellent.""It's my understanding that the initial setup is straightforward.""You can do a silent remote deployment very fast.""The most valuable feature is the TPM (Trusted Platform Module), which makes the PC security stronger because somebody who is not from the team cannot access the PC without the decryption PIN.""Feature-wise we have the ability to encrypt fast.""I like BitLocker because it gives us strong encryption to protect our data.""The hard drive encryption is very good."

More Microsoft BitLocker Pros →

"You get updates and other encrypted files easily.""The most valuable features are the messaging features and shared folders.""It has reduced the number of incidents related to the loss of information.""The management console gives us the ability to quickly control who sees what, ensures we are on the latest version, and up-to-date.""Disk encryption and file and folder encryption are the most valuable and used features. It is also very well integrated with Symantec Messaging Gateway and Symantec DLP, which is helpful in protecting any kind of information that goes outside. Symantec DLP catches an email and sends it to the encryption server. The encryption server encrypts the email and intimates to the user that confidential information is being sent out. The administrator can then take appropriate action.""I like the management aspect of this solution. You don't want to have end-users tweak or set it themselves, so the fact that you could do it from a central point helped us a lot.""We can extend it to all of the critical endpoints and the servers, and we can ensure the confidentiality of the data.""It is stable."

Cons
"We would maybe want (in the future) advanced security in the filtering of access to the metaverse by augmented reality cameras.""In the next release of this solution, I would like to see application identity support.""The UI was one of the most difficult points to get used to. Due to the UI, even though it was used every day, the administration was complicated.""The installation was quite complex."

More Check Point Pointsec [EOL] Cons →

"The solution could improve by having a centralized GUI for management.""The solution could be improved if it was more user friendly.""The integration between Active Directory and BitLocker could be better.""In future releases, I would like to see a feature where I can have a view of each device that has BitLocker to see if these machines are encrypted or not. So, I just want a view or a dashboard that can tell us so that I can remediate and add BitLocker to those systems or devices.""I would recommend BitLocker only because of the economic side, not the technical side. If the features were included in the already existing licenses I would use it. If not, I would recommend other products.""The solution should offer encryption for other items such as shared folders, removable media, etc.""The encryption takes a long time to complete, and our system runs very slowly while it is encrypting.""BitLocker should be available on standard Windows. We need to spend money on a Pro license to get BitLocker because it's essential to protect our customers' data. We don't want that to fall into the wrong hands."

More Microsoft BitLocker Cons →

"What I didn't find helpful in the version we used is the fact that all devices had to be on the same network for us to push through the encryption.""It's difficult to integrate the solution with the DLP""More features need to be included in the encryption software.""Upgrades from one version to another may only sometimes be straightforward, especially if one needs a clearer understanding of the process.""I do not find the environment to be very user-friendly.""Symantec Endpoint Encryption can improve by being more secure.""The product can be expensive. Price was a factor in moving away from the product.""Its remote deployment should be improved. Currently, there is no remote deployment for Symantec Endpoint Encryption. You have to install it manually. There are some issues with AD integration and the time taken to reflect a password on the Endpoint Encryption Manager when a new user has changed the password, but they are already working on these issues, and these will be resolved in the next release."

    Overview
    Information Not Available

BitLocker is a full disk encryption solution that protects your data from theft, hacking, and loss. BitLocker achieves this by encrypting the entire drive that hosts your operating system and all your data. BitLocker can work on all operating systems, drives, or devices, including portable storage devices.

After BitLocker completes the data encryption, it generates a recovery key. Only those with the correct encryption key will be able to decrypt and access the encrypted files and information. Attempts to access secured data on premises or over the network will be met with either authentication prompts or error messages saying the data cannot be accessed.

BitLocker provides its users with peace of mind by improving security and reducing risks of critical data loss and intrusions.

    Benefits of Microsoft BitLocker

    • Comprehensive data protection: BitLocker encryption provides increased security for data throughout its lifecycle, which starts with the creation and storage of the data and ends with its removal. Encryption prevents important data from being accidentally revealed or stolen. When data is encrypted, stealing data is more difficult, and hackers are often discouraged from instigating a cyberattack.

    • BitLocker is free with Microsoft Windows: Microsoft BitLocker is free to use and very easy to set up.

    • Good performance: BitLocker does not make the computer slow down or freeze when in use. You are free to work on other processes with BitLocker running in the background. BitLocker’s interface is very intuitive and the process of encrypting and decrypting data is straightforward and fast.

    • Prevent unauthorized data modification: BitLocker helps to keep your computing environment safe from any unauthorized changes. BitLocker regularly inspects your boot settings every time your PC is turned on. When BitLocker notices that modifications have been made to your boot environment, it forces the PC to enter recovery mode.

    Reviews from Real Users

Microsoft BitLocker stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its powerful encryption capabilities and its user-friendly user interface.

An ICT operations and security manager notes, “It is free and native to the OS. We don't have to worry about upgrades or maintaining the product. You encrypt the disk, and you save the recovery key. That's it. The person puts their password in, and after that, it is up to them. If they forget their password, they have to bring it in to get it unlocked.”

Kevin C., a director at Pathfinder, writes, “Theease of use is the most valuable feature. The ability to import data to build your frontend on top of the data is very simple and very useable.”

Symantec Drive Encryption, powered by PGP technology provides organizations with strong full-disk and removable media encryption and the ability to integrate with Symantec Data Loss Prevention. Intuitive management enables enterprise scale deployments and features compliance-based, out-of-the-box reporting plus customizable reports. Management capabilities include support for native OS encryption (FileVault2) and Opal compliant self-encrypting drives.
