Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I have found the main feature of the solution to be its ability to analyze an application's code to see where there are issues. Additionally, it is easy to use and configure.""The most valuable feature is the detailed statistics, like the consumer count, for the ActiveMQ server.""The most valuable feature is the flow map.""Error analysis in the troubleshooting sections go straight to the point.""The solution helps us save a lot of time on certain tasks.""It is a wonderful monitoring tool that manages various aspects such as system resources (CPU, RAM), mobile performance, and infrastructure monitoring.""It is a good monitoring tool. Its stability is very good.""It is used to test customer behavior on a website."

"The most valuable feature is the automation that can be accomplished by using scripts. If we didn't have AlgoSec, I would have to do everything manually.""The optimizations are the most useful aspect because most customers have a very unmanaged network with a lot of rules. We use a lot of the optimizations in our reports for improving firewall rules.""We have Check Point, Palo Alto, and FortiGate firewalls, and it integrates pretty seamlessly with these firewalls. We have had no issues so far.""Because we get about 60 to 70 rules to deploy a week during the firewall maintenance window, we might create some duplicate rules or open duplicate ports. AlgoSec has become very helpful whenever we need to find out the nodes or subnets that have already been created, then we don't need to create the duplicate subnet of that particular IP address.""We have used the solution to implement and manage microsegmentation initiatives. That is the whole point of modeling towards, "Hey, how will this work for a specific situation in the end?" I think it's a great solution because a lot of companies are not just going to the cloud, but microsegmentation and service-delivered products. So, I feel like it is very capable and comparatively better than its peers, if not equal.""The firewall policy summarization is the most valuable feature. It helps us to cross-check the firewall ruleset. That's the main purpose of it. And of course, it monitors changes of the firewall policy. It provides full visibility into the risk involved in firewall change requests. It helps us to check for any integrity issues and conflicts with other rulesets, and of course the compliance.""AlgoBot is a Slack chatbot that they've designed to help people identify if the firewalls are going to allow or block specific network traffic. We leveraged this to allow our staff to check themselves if the firewalls are going to be blocking traffic or not. That saves us logging into the firewalls and running the query off the host. We give them the power to use it and it saves us time.""The most unique feature is the ability to help fix any gaps or mismatches in the configuration of the firewall."

Cons
"The dashboard can be better. Also, the automated reports could be improved.""The agent deployment could be simplified by, for example, adding a GUI.""The infrastructure is not as good as other solutions.""In the current version of AppDynamics, there is a correlated section, where we can see all servers’ performance along with application performance, but network performance is missing.""The initial setup could be easier.""I’d like to see better out-of-the-box visual reporting so that we can roll this up to management.""The solution could improve by covering more technologies. For example, it does support .NET Core applications. However, it could be a bit better.""Their agents sometimes claim to be very lightweight, especially with databases, but they are very heavy. They can take up more compute than the actual work that we need to do."

More AppDynamics Cons →

"The analysis part can be improved when I make a flow request. There should be a clear analysis of which metric part needs to be opened and which firewalls will be opened. It should give you a bit more graphical visibility about these.""There is a little bit of scope for improvement in the risk profiles that come with the AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer module. Currently, AlgoSec provides only three standard zones within a risk profile. These standard zones are external, internal, and DMZ. Everybody's network is divided into different zones within a data center, but AlgoSec only provides three zones. This is a limitation that I see for the risk profile analysis. If there was an option to customize these zones, it would be great.""The API integration could potentially improve. I didn't get a chance to look and see how well this solution can integrate with ServiceNow or our GRC environment.""When we send multiple requests across at once, sometimes it causes errors and FireFlow gets stuck. In cases like this, we have to go back in and fix it.""The technical support response time is low. This might be due to the coronavirus pandemic situation, but I am not getting full support when working with them.""Integration with Oracle on the cloud is not supported. I would also like to see integrations with network devices in Layer 2.""We work with multiple security vendors. It's rather difficult to integrate the vendors. AlgoSec is a platform that hasn't really been developed as much as we would like to just because of its complexity to set up. If it was easy to set up and easy to get integrations with other companies, then we would be doing it. But the thought is that we are relatively stretched thin in our team as it is and the complexity of configuring AlgoSec doesn't make it any easier.""In the new version H32, there are many, many bugs."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The product’s licencing policy is competitive. However, properly identify and size your needs to get the best rate."
  • "As a technical person, and as an application development team, they all understand that this is the right tool for us. But when it comes to budget and financial matters, it takes days and weeks to convince upper management to buy this tool. So they should do something more on licensing costs."
  • "It is not a cheap tool, but you also save in manpower to setup because it is easy and fast. At the end of the day, I think the revenue is much better. BUT, they have an awful co-term mode of licensing."
  • "It could be cheaper. It's a little cost prohibitive. There are so many features that also show a lot of value, but it’s not always easy to justify the cost."
  • "Because it is priced per JVM, the price can increase pretty fast, into the millions. We have had challenges because we had to justify the price to our clients, as well, when we are putting in certain tools."
  • "It would be better if there were more solutions incorporated into the base price. "
  • "The way it is structured in terms of price could be better. You pay for individual modules and that adds on to the cost, which detracts you from implementing those modules and slows you down."
  • "Take into consideration what you get for specific pricing models and how much it costs to add on things you may need later."

  • "I heard that the licensing was around $100,000 a year."
  • "For the South American market, the prices are very high."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the AppDynamics solution.

Chandan K., Associate Director at a financial services firm, says, “The tracing is the most important aspect of the solution. The way it traces the information within the particular application or within the particular infrastructure is great. That actually helps. Apart from that, all of the data that's in the production APM is good.”

PeerSpot user, Yacin H., Responsable Commercial at Zen Networks, mentions, “You can use one module for each server, for each application, and for each API”. He also adds, “With the solution you can put add-ons on it and it's very customizable. You can customize it easily. If you want something that the tool doesn't have, you can add it easily.”

Another reviewer, a Head Of Information Technology at a mining and metals company expresses, "The solution helps us save a lot of time on certain tasks. The dashboards of the solution are excellent. The stability is good.”

David G., Systems Engineer at a tech services company, states, “The solution has beneficial application analysis, is highly scalable, and has a great ROI.”
