The most beneficial aspects of Microsoft Exchange are that it is solid, dependable, and reliable. Rather than relying on machine learning, which failed badly, we have gone with human learning instead and trained people how not to abuse their email.
From a security standpoint, advanced security capability could be better to protect my company in general. In summary on security, it could be better, but it suffices at the moment along with human training.
I see some drawbacks and areas for improvement; the quarantining is not fantastic. I think the quarantining is not fantastic because it lets a lot of spam through, and when it is notified of spam, it does not particularly alter its behavior quickly. It does alter over a long period of time, but people get sick of marking things as spam repeatedly.
I think the functionality of Microsoft Exchange is not that advanced; you could always add more features to any software.
I have been using Microsoft Exchange for about eight years now.
I would not say the solution is 100% stable; no solution is 100% stable, but it is as good as expected.
I find it scalable as expected; there are very few limits.
I have never actually had to deal with Microsoft's technical support myself. I have never dealt with Microsoft's technical support because we do use an outsourced consultant for the more technical aspects of it.

I have never used a solution similar to Microsoft Exchange from other vendors because our user base is too diverse for that.
I would say the installation of Microsoft Exchange is straightforward; it seems to be very straightforward. It is all cloud-based.
I am aware of pricing aspects, and I would say it is affordable for what it is.
I have worked with Cisco, Grafis, and Proofpoint for various needs, but currently, I am not engaged in anything specific as that was an investigation I did on what alternatives there were to Proofpoint, and we did not proceed with anything in particular. I just used that report as an information source.
I do use Cisco Secure Email, Grafis, and Proofpoint Email Protection when needed, but we were using Proofpoint before, and we are no longer using it.

My experience with Microsoft Exchange is as good as the generic email.
I do not use Microsoft Exchange to synchronize emails across devices, and it is not part of my workflow.
The protocols I mostly use with Microsoft Exchange for integration are SMTP.

I teach translation and English for special purposes, so we share translations for assignments, especially teamwork when we assign projects that require group work so that we can control what students do. I do this and I know other colleagues who do the same.
We have Google Workspace, and we use it primarily for Drive to collect items. We categorize folders with topics and material either for students or for research. We use Google Doc to share documents, especially when we assign homework to be corrected for peer correction or classroom correction.
With Teams and Microsoft, we use it for collective calls and exam supervision because we use video surveillance through camera with Teams. We use Teams for meetings and to share material with students.
The ability to share documents with students and assign them things and correct them in real time has been beneficial. You can verify what they write, and they can contribute and cooperate to create a collective document, which is something that our society nowadays requires. The ability to cooperate, especially those who work with languages and those who work with writing, need to learn how to cooperate. There is co-editing and co-writing, all these sorts of things. I love the fact that I can easily have access to folders that I can categorize and where I can upload research material and teaching material.
The only inconvenience is the fact that you have limited storage. After a while, you have to buy a surplus.
It is not intuitive with Teams. It is hard to find categories and folders in Teams. I do not like it at all. But I really cannot choose because it depends on the kind of services the university you work for provides.
I have been using this for maybe fifteen years or even more. Since we had the university email, we have always had it on Google.
I am not aware of security issues and I have never had problems with Google. During COVID, there was a time when we were using all folders on Moodle. All university teachers were using their folders in Moodle to share material with students. A couple of times, I found requests to my folders by students who were not from my university. Students with an email extension that was not from my university could somehow get a view of my folders and ask me for access. This happened once during COVID when we were all using material at Zoom classrooms. We had Zoom integrated into Moodle and then our recorded lessons would go into Google Drive and students were allowed to have access to Google Drive so that they could review, re-watch, or if they were not present, they could watch the lessons at a later time. I pointed this problem to the technical staff and the issue was resolved.
With Microsoft now that we are using, we have a security system by which every now and then you have to change your password and whenever you try to access multiple times to the same email from different devices or many times in the same day, they will ask you for a code that you have to insert.
I am not familiar with scalable solutions, so I can only say that to me scalable means that you can use one thing or the other. There are probably many more options that we are not familiar with. If the purpose is to increase the teachers' use of that, probably presentations should be provided. People should go around with tutorials and guidelines, but teachers do not have time to go through that. If webinars were provided and universities were promoted with webinars, people are going to attend them.
The price is fair, but I had a problem once that they were not able to solve. I bought extra space for a European project because I needed more space than what was provided by the university. As the PI and coordinator in charge of the project, I acquired out of my own pocket extra space that was supposed to cost 1.99 or 1.90 per month. At a certain point, I was charged 19.19 Euros per month. I sent a complaint letter but it was hard to find customer service for that. I sent several complaints and what they replied to me was that I should have dealt with the problem with the provider of my credit card. I do not think this is fair because it was their mistake.

We are still using Moodle.
There are definitely alternate solutions.
The universities I used to work for, Viterbo University and Tuscia University in central Italy, prefer Google Workspace. They signed an agreement with the provider of Google Workspace and therefore they are using Google Workspace. This other university where I am working now, which is L'Orientale University in the south in Naples, prefers Teams because the institutional email is on Microsoft.
I prefer Google Workspace. It is much more intuitive and easier. I do not like Teams at all. I do not even like the configuration when you see your email. Google Workspace has a better window where you can read very easily your email and you can customize it easily while Microsoft provides links.
I am currently working at a national project, which is a PNR project involving nine universities, and we are setting up a new Moodle. At least my university is setting a new Moodle platform for the preparation of digital material, and we will try to integrate some AI features in Moodle.
I think it is scalable. I have not experienced any issues with this and I have not heard of someone else's experience with that. I gave this review a rating of seven out of ten.
