We propose and deploy the solution for our clients.
Senior Consultant at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees
Easy to install with a large cloud compatibility but needs better documentation
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is easy to install; our team just has to put together the plan, give it to IT and let them handle it. Other solutions are quite complex, but this is much simpler."
- "If you were to compare it to, say, EMC, the availability of the documentation, training programs, and end-user education aren't as good. Rubrik could improve this."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Clients find the cost very good and enjoy the large cloud compatibility. It also has good automation.
The solution is easy to install; our team just has to put together the plan, give it to IT and let them handle it. Other solutions are quite complex, but this is much simpler.
What needs improvement?
The support needs to be improved. There are some areas where we're dependant on the support team and we can't resolve issues that are on-site. The solution doesn't give too much user interface to the end-user and seems to hold back a lot of resources.
If you were to compare it to, say, EMC, the availability of the documentation, training programs, and end-user education aren't as good. Rubrik could improve this.
The solution could benefit from duplication.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've begun to get familiar with the solution. I've used it for the last two months or so, and have attended some workshops although I haven't done any operations on it yet.

857,028 professionals have used our research since 2012.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is good. Initially, it wasn't that stable. However, since deployment, it's been improving.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the solution is good.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support isn't that good, especially if you compare it to a competitor like EMC.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've previously used EMC. While Rubrik is easier to install, EMC has much better documentation for the end-user to take advantage of.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very straightforward, especially when you compare it to traditional backup solutions.
What other advice do I have?
We work with a hybrid deployment model.
I'd advise others to look at their environment before considering the solution. Users considering it should take time to figure out their scalability expectations as well as what other applications they're running and what their database is.
Although I haven't been working with it too much, I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. It's a new product and we still have to test it on an enterprise level.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Infrastructure Specialist at a comms service provider with 10,001+ employees
Easy to use, good technical support, and everything is contained in a single box
Pros and Cons
- "It has an easy-to-use interface that is not complicated."
- "Being a modern backup solution, Rubrik should have an option to back up a Kubernetes cluster."
What is our primary use case?
We use Rubrik Go for backing up virtual machines. It is a hyper-converged backup appliance that we are testing and expect to put into production. It is currently running on our test platforms.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is that it is a hyper-converged backup appliance with everything in one box.
It has an easy-to-use interface that is not complicated.
What needs improvement?
There should be an option to generate reports in PDF format, rather than only in Excel, or CSV format.
Being a modern backup solution, Rubrik should have an option to back up a Kubernetes cluster. Other solutions support this, yet I have not even seen it on their roadmap. It is the next big thing that is happening in the market, so it needs to be supported.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Rubrik Go for the past two months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have had no problems with stability. So far, so good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We wanted to try the appliance so we bought a smaller plan and have not tried to scale. We wanted to test the performance. After some more testing, we will put it into production.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have contacted technical support a couple of times and they are good. They are very responsive. Technically, they are very sound.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very straightforward.
I was doing a comparison with one of my colleagues who was setting up a different backup appliance. It took my colleague about two weeks to complete the installation because of the complexity, whereas it took me about two hours before I could start performing backups.
During the implementation, we had a Rubrik consultant on-site for two days and we were able to complete everything except for the database backup.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is a very costly solution.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

857,028 professionals have used our research since 2012.
System Engineer at a financial services firm with 201-500 employees
Has good VM features and good stability
Pros and Cons
- "In terms of stability, the product is good."
- "If you're going for Rubrik, you are not opting for the tape library because Rubrik doesn't have the fiber cable connected to the tape library."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use is for our data and software platforms.
What is most valuable?
In terms of Rubrik Go's most valuable features, their VM features are good.
What needs improvement?
If you're going for Rubrik, you are not opting for the tape library because Rubrik doesn't have the fiber cable connected to the tape library. But if a customer is looking for backups on the tape library, it should all work because in between there is a third-party user indicator. If Rubrik had provided such features, like how Nutanix does, it would be better since there is a dependency on the physical software. So, all this comes into the picture again and we need to have a separate tape library to configure it. If you are not opting for the tape, then it makes a good solution. Because with Rubrik, you can either keep the data on disc or you can simply put it on the cloud. It's up to us.
The implementation took a long time for me because they have some concerns getting the requirements and procuring the other things, such as the licensing and the tape libraries. So, that took a long time for me to get done. But implementation is straightforward with Rubrik. But that sort of thing takes time for production.
It has good features. With the integration with the cloud, you can save the backups but, that is really why I need to get the backups on that. I need to test the linework. That is the reason I didn't switch over completely to Rubrik. Still, my backups are on it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Rubrik Go for eight months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of stability, the product is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I don't have any issues with scalability. There are not many users in my company using it, mostly just me.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Currently, I am using Veritas. I didn't switch. I just checked Rubrik as of now because I needed to know the ins-and-outs of how it works and what other features it has and what it supports.
It has these things, but I still haven't really switched, so I couldn't comment on that because I was just searching the blogs. A few of them are saying that they have third-party integration. If there are any issues we need to open a case with the staff because Rubrik is not a consultant with that.
How was the initial setup?
The initial support was good but had some limitations. The thing with this particular product is that there is a dependency on the support team - for example, for data and what is needed for backup. It can publish from your end and if you know anything, you can certainly jump into that console and publish that from your end. But when it comes to the Rubrik, you can't do anything except Black Box because the support team needs to incur some credentials from their end and then they'll start troubleshooting these things. Beforehand, we can't do anything on that. So, there is a dependency there.
It did not take very much time. But configuring the tape library on the Rubrik took a long time for me to configure online because it has the third-party indicators. So, because of that, it took a long time for me.
What about the implementation team?
We did the installation through our own team in our company.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Rubrik's licensing is on a yearly basis. It depends on how much storage you are utilizing online. Sometimes if we go over the VM basis, it will cost us more, so we go on a capacity basis. So, it depends on how much storage you are procuring and backing up. We got the license for the storage.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of 1 - 10, I'd give Rubrik Go an 8.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Solutions Engineer at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Offers hardware upgrades but the reporting could be improved
Pros and Cons
- "Even though the data is already in the cloud, it's an AWS, so by accessing the on-prem appliance you can still search because it is indexed from that appliance."
- "Reporting could be improved. For now, it's only exported to CSB files."
What is our primary use case?
I'm a solutions engineer working for a distributor company in the Philippines. Our clients are generally medium to enterprise size. The product is quite expensive it's so not suitable for small companies. We have deployed to about nine companies in the past couple of years and it's usually only the backup administrator that deals with the product.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature with Rubrik is that even though the data is already in the cloud, it's an AWS, so by accessing the on-prem appliance you can still search because it is indexed from that appliance. It can be restored from cloud directly to your Rubrik or to the terminal unit or server. With other similar solutions that the competitors produce, the granular file-level restoration requires restoration of the whole image.
Rubrik also provides hardware upgrades. If you're subscribed and there's a new model or new generation of Rubrik, they will replace the old with the new.
What needs improvement?
One of the issues with the product is that you cannot postpone a specific backup job. If you try to do that, every backup job is paused. It's a global pause, not just a specific object-level pause. I would like to see them include a feature that would allow me to pause per object level because if you pause the backup now, it pauses global branding backups. Also, reporting could be improved. For now, it's only exported to CSB files. It would be better if it were a PDF and would save having to transfer from a CSB file.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this product for about three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Having used the product for three years, it's stable. The usual warranty of an appliance is three years so things might change in the next year or two.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable but as I said earlier, if you want to scale up, you need to add additional appliances.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is good, it's a free call home feature. If it's an urgent issue they will upgrade you to priority status and will contact you very quickly to assist. It's very good.
How was the initial setup?
To deploy the product is quite simple. It only takes about 15 minutes. If a customer has carried out vulnerability assessments and testing, then any issues are sorted out before deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In terms of appliances, there isn't any complex licensing. Extra costs are related to capacity. If you need to archive your data in the cloud, that would involve an additional license fee.
It's an expensive product. Most of the target customers are from major vendor-based enterprise companies but on the other hand, each appliance comes with a good warranty.
What other advice do I have?
Rubrik is a backup or cloud data management company but they are now focusing on the security side and are including data classification. I don't know if that's a good thing. I always recommend the version prior to the latest one. If there are any issues with bugs or something isn't quite right in the latest version, you can avoid the trouble.
Cloud is still new in the Philippines and many companies are still not using it. Most of our clients here use private cloud but some are using AWS rather than Microsoft Azure.
This is a good product if you're using VMware but if you're using physical objects on Microsoft Hyper-V it's quite difficult because they don't have good integration with Microsoft.
I would rate this product a seven out of 10

Easy to use and provides secure backup
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's most valuable features are its ease of use and performance."
- "The solution’s pricing could be reduced."
What is our primary use case?
Rubrik Go is used for secure backup.
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable features are its ease of use and performance. Installing the appliance is all you have to do. The rest is done automatically.
What needs improvement?
The solution’s pricing could be reduced.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Rubrik Go for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the solution’s stability an eight out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scaling the solution is not difficult, but it is expensive.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support is good, and they answer quickly and efficiently. However, to improve the support, local language should be used.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have previously used the tools Cohesity and Veritas. Compared to Rubrik Go, Cohesity is difficult to work with.
How was the initial setup?
The solution's initial setup is not easy, but it is not very difficult either.
What about the implementation team?
The solution's installation takes a couple of hours. However, there is always a little problem with the person providing an IP number, which takes some hours to solve. Most of the time, customers are not properly ready to install the system.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing a three out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
The solution’s maintenance is mainly done by Rubrik. It is possible to automate a lot of things. If you have a new server, its backup will be done automatically, and you don't have to do anything.
A few years ago, you needed the backup because of system failures or the disc was broken. That never happened again. But today, you need to have a secure backup because of ransomware. If somebody deletes your data, you will have to pay a few million to recover that data.
AI is implemented on the security part of the product, but you have to buy extra pieces of the server, which is extremely expensive. I would recommend the solution to other users.
Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Pros and Cons
- "We use the solution as a backup for our virtual environment and SQL databases."
- "The tool's pricing needs to be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution as a backup for our virtual environment and SQL databases.
What needs improvement?
The tool's pricing needs to be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the product for seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is stable but often gets attacked by malware and ransomware. I would rate the product's stability a ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The tool is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The support will immediately take care of your concern as soon as a case is logged.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The solution is easy to install since it is installed via cloud and you just need to activate it. If you have the firewall ports and network configuration prepared, the tool's installation takes only 30 minutes to complete. We used only one engineer for the product's installation but I suggest using two resources to handle the deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten. The solution's costs are monthly.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate the product a ten out of ten. We have medium enterprise and enterprise clients from the telcos and bank domains of the Philippines. You need to upgrade to the tool's latest version.
