Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product's initial setup phase is easy with the help of the framework consisting of Microsoft Azure.""The interface is in continuous development and improves version by version.""The managing and monitoring are the solution's most valuable features. They are something I find quite helpful in my work.""This is a good product and I recommend it.""I think it's stable, scalable, and flexible.""This solution has improved our organization through the provision of efficient resource utilization and capacity planning."

More HPE System Management Pros →

"Its ability to monitor practically any type of network device via SNMP is most valuable. This is the main functionality that we're using. If a network device exposes a metric, such as interface utilization, SevOne will monitor it for us.""The most valuable feature is the NMS because that's the core of the system. Without the NMS, the other tools aren't that usable.""Flexible architecture: You can extend the system and its capacity by attaching another cluster pair.""The comprehensiveness of this solution's collection of network performance and flow data is one of the basics in the field for what it does. It meets all of our needs. So for all those areas, for the most straightforward collection capabilities, right up to NetFlow and even telemetry, it meets all those demands. Not only just basic or fundamental SNMP collection capability, but the product also supports what we need for the future with telemetry streaming. So it's very comprehensive.""It's a great solution for highlighting and discovering useful information regarding our network's elements.""SevOne’s data collection functionality is very good. From a collection point of view, we pull SNMP data, which is simple. It is easy to manipulate the pull in the estate. It is really simple compared to some of the other products that we have used. However, for deferred data, i.e., things that we import or don't pull directly, we tend to have a preplanned integration. So, its Universal Collector is really useful.""Another useful feature is that SevOne gives you real-time insights into your network performance. It polls every five minutes. That is important for our customers because there are some network teams that are always monitoring their networks.""We have benefited mainly from the use of the dashboard interface. It makes the network visually interesting for other people who are not in the network. A lot of people are not network techies who understand streams in the network. Based on location, we have streams coming in and out. They can see visually when there is some problem. They don't need to understand all the network technology behind it to be able to understand if everything is working well or if there is a problem."

"I mostly use the top events, and look at how the execution is happening on the database; and monitoring the cluster level rates. I even look at the execution plan.""It is a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for managing database consolidation, something that has been missing and difficult to do.""It is the best monitoring tool for Oracle databases.""With ASH Analytics, ADDM, Real-Time SQL Monitoring, SQL Tuning Advisor, we can measure SLAs, detect performance hotspots, perform deep diagnostics into specific tiers, tune applications, and remediate.""SQL Tuning Advisor, ADDM, Top Activity, ASM Space Manager, Incident Notifications""I like that it's stable.""It's easy to implement as it's made by Oracle for Oracle.""It is a good tool for monitoring databases."

Cons
"The quality of service and support for this solution needs to be improved.""The product should increase the processing capacity and allow speedy deployment, as both of them are areas with certain shortcomings where improvements are required.""If the solution could provide better integration to make it easier to manage everything on different servers, that would be helpful. Whatever servers a company has, be it IBM, Dell, etc., if the System Management could be a platform that links all of them together, it would make management across different server types easier.""I think that support integration could be improved.""Our customers would like to see the price lowered.""The return on investment report is too difficult to understand."

More HPE System Management Cons →

"You need to plan integrations. That has been the biggest bug with SevOne so far. For the things that SevOne pulls directly, those are easy to understand, modify, and put into the database. For things that need to use the Universal Collector or xStats, you need to plan that stuff well in advance.""When I started using it, I tried adding one of the BroadWorks application servers into SevOne... it created thousands and thousands of objects from that one application server and we immediately ran out of license... It would help, when new objects are discovered, if there were a way to categorize those objects and to pick the part of the object you need...""The method of searching for SIP and the way to create the groups.""Would benefit with the addition of AI modules for proactive data insights.""The reports are easy to configure but they are a bit outdated in terms of appearance and visualization.""We previously have had discussions on some reporting enhancements. So, we raised a feature request, which was delivered from SevOne.""User-friendly, multi-tenancy.""Telemetry is hot these days, and IBM can improve SevOne's support for telemetry correction. Reporting is another feature that could be better. It provides the bare minimum functionality, which is good enough for most engineers, but the management isn't advanced. The new portal provides a much lighter view and better visualization, but the management is not so good."

More IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) Cons →

"It needs to support the Database versions lower than 10.2.""We could use it but definitely with some effort we can streamline much better and sometimes some box here and there, like 13C you have to really wait, but there are great features. Just have to make sure it is a stable product.""The user interface is not very interactive. It needs improvement.""There's a lot of documentation to go through as a new user.""The solution has a very large resource system. It's too big. There are too many items.""The deployment is not straightforward.""They should improve the hover text context. This would provide assistance whenever a task is attempted by a DBA.""My opinion is that this solution needs to improve consolidation. That is what our business needs the most right now."

  • "Choose a SevOne partner who can provide SevOne as a service and can deliver professional services and maintenance."
  • "It is inexpensive compared to other monitoring tools."
  • "Prices per license are not huge, but they exist."
  • "There are cheaper solutions available."
  • "The pricing has been fair."

SevOne provides device-level pricing. That gives us the flexibility to turn on, and expand on, the metrics that we're collecting around those devices, without taking a financial hit."
  • "The pricing has not evolved with the market, which is one of the reasons we are moving to a new product."

  • "It is part of Real Application Testing, so no new investment is necessary for clients who already are already using RAT."
  • "As with all Oracle products, care should be taken when using any features to ensure that they do not activate licensed features that have not been paid for."
  • "The basic functions are free. You only pay license fees for advanced features."
  • "The pricing is very high."
  • "We are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "There is only the standard licensing fee. There are no other costs."
  • "Evaluate your requirements carefully. Elaborate DR and HA setup of OEM can become expensive."
  • "Be careful to only enable the packs for which you have a license as this is an issue we see time and again."

    Reviews from Real Users

Oracle Enterprise Manager stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its central management and monitoring and its reporting capabilities

Robin C., head of Oracle Exadata Centre of Excellence at Tata Consultancy Services, writes, "The database performance monitoring features are very useful and allow us to quickly zero in on DB-related issues. Exadata storage server and Infiniband switches can be viewed from the GUI in OEM which cannot be done in other tools. The ability to deploy metric extensions makes this tool extensible for our custom monitoring also."

PeerSpot users note the effectiveness of these features. A database manager at a tech services company notes, “The solution's most valuable aspect is the fact that it is embedded with the Oracle database and Oracle's engineering system, its extra data, and analytics.  They have plug-ins that are very helpful. Due to the infrastructure's size, the introduction they offer is very, very useful. It helps with an overall understanding of the product. They have a very nice graphical user interface. The monitoring is good. We can capture the SQL tune from us. With Oracle Enterprise Managers, we can see the rich performance tuning.”
