We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Software flexibility. Everything is fully configurable. The reliability results from the design. Elements are well projected (disks, blade, network, etc.). No single point of failure is identifiable.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the stability.""It is a very well-thought-out solution with great virtualization. A good option we have is mapping a storage LUN onto an ESX cluster. That way, in case a particular ESX is down, it can migrate (using vMotion) to another host in the cluster, resulting in high-availability.""The advantage is being able to consolidate everything into a relatively small chassis.""The solution’s validated designs for major enterprise apps are also extremely important in our organization. We don't always have time to research products and solutions ourselves. By going with a validated design, we're assured that it's the latest and greatest. It's supported by the three major vendors that we deal with.""Since the addition of nodes, it is all automated now. What would normally take us around three to five hours in the past, has come down to 15 minutes to half an hour, creating a significant gain in time.""FlexPod provides very small footprint. We can have it in our offices without bothering with extra cooling, as it is a small unit.""The ability to converge a lot of different data and platforms into a single common platform, then scale horizontally and vertically."

"The tool's most valuable features are stability and scalability.""This is a scalable solution. Our customers begin with an initial configuration and later add more servers, memory and other options to meet the demands of increased processing.""The most valuable features of HPE ConvergedSystem are scalability and resilience.""Consolidation and duplications features.""The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to restore lost machines. Essentially its high availability capabilities are extremely valuable to us.""The solution's technical support was good. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.""Most of the HP products I come across are they are easy to install. That's not very complex.""The most valuable features of the solution are the flexibility and the availability of the machines."

"The product has a very simple GUI-based management platform and it is very simple to use. There is a very easy step-by-step configuration procedure that guides you through, and you can configure it very easily.""In cases where system interruptions occur, it enables rapid restoration, ensuring a prompt return to normal service levels.""Huawei FusionStorage does well in its basic functions and offers broad utility.""Provides easy access to our data."

Cons
"You must build each block separately, that's a disadvantage sometimes.""I would like to see increased performance.""The upgrade process needs to be improved and it would be nice to manage everything from a single pane of glass.""The tool is obsolete and we are migrating to HPE. It should improve the pricing.""There are times where we have had issues with technical support.""They should cram more space in there and find a way to compress things more; dedupe better.""We want always more speed, capacity, fluidity, and growth that we can easily integrate.""It would be helpful if they sold a pre-boxed option so that you can buy a rack and everything's already there, everything's connected."

More FlexPod XCS Cons →

"It could be enhanced by improving the built-in backup solution.""The tool has shortcomings in its performance monitoring part.""The solution needs to add NFS features.""Pricing is an area of concern in the solution where improvements are required.""HPE ConvergedSystem needs to improve its price.""HPE ConvergedSystem needs to improve its management. I would like the tool to add cloud management features so that the system can be accessed anywhere from the cloud.""There is some scope for improvement in support. The response time could be better.""The solution has a complicated front-end."

More HPE ConvergedSystem Cons →

"The product needs improvement in terms of affordability.""The initial setup and installation is not that straightforward. It should be made easier and the time to install should be reduced.""I hope for improvements in the product's processing ability and performance.""Their cloud services could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing and licensing is very affordable from a FlexPod perspective."
  • "It seems very cost effective once it's in place, and it's easy to expand and easy to add capacity without a lot of extra money."
  • "If your company really needs to be up 100% of the time, and you need to do a private data center, I don't know if I could realistically actually recommend another blueprint."
  • "Anytime that you are buying any storage make sure you understand storage. Do not just buy storage based on what somebody sells you in terms of IO or throughput."
  • "Buy storage based on the solutions you need, the technologies you need, and what will make your life a lot easier down the road."
  • "As a whole, it is inexpensive, and it uses the least amount of parts."
  • "Storage is very expensive. To buy MIC cards and additional storage either on-prem or in the cloud, the IT department does not have money for it, so you need a more niche product or a more flexible way to store your data. That is the benefit that you get from this product."
  • "We purchased the solution through CDW. They are a partner and knowledgeable."
  • More FlexPod XCS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Pricing is good. We have not calculated what hyper-converged infrastructure has brought us but I think there has to be some lower cost for us, compared to the public cloud. Obviously, there would be a lower cost, probably by more than half."
  • "This is an expensive system and not every customer has the kind of budget to support it."
  • "The pricing is sensitive."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "My company has a five year contract for HPE ConvergedSystem. The contracts depend on companies and sometimes it can be three years. The solution is worth its price."
  • "There are some extra costs in addition to the licensing costs for the yearly maintenance from professional third-party services."
  • "The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
  • "The pricing is competitive. Not a major problem. We have a subscription model."

  • "It is expensive but might be optimal based on the partnership."

The announcement of Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant on Integrated Systems (read hyper convergence) has put Nutanix as the leader of the pack as of August 2015. Clearly, many of us get caught up because it is the “greatest feeling in the world”. However, this faux feeling is not reality because there are many factors that made the pack leaders in the Magic Quadrant (MQ). First of all, the MQ is about market perception. There is no doubt that the pack leaders in the Leaders Quadrant have earned their right to be there. Each company’s revenue, market share, gross margin, company’s profitability have helped put each as leaders in the pack. However, it is also measured by branding, marketing, market perception and acceptance and other intangible factors. Secondly, VMware EVO: Rail has split the market when EMC has 3 HC solutions in VCE, ScaleIO and EVO: Rail. Cisco wanted to do their own HC piece in Whiptail (between the 2014 MQ and 2015 MQ reports), and closed down Whiptail when their new CEO came on board. NetApp chose EVO: Rail and also has the ever popular FlexPod. That is why you see that in… Read more →
