We use this solution for running into data centers or full-location data centers for our customers. If any failure happens due to the databases, it backs it up. The uniqueness of the solution is being able to take a backup so the same backup can be used for disaster recovery. So whenever the disaster happens, the same backup can be restored on the machine, which we configure and define. When you call disaster on the infra, the system automatically takes the last backup and then puts up the device with the previous backup. There is a router which fits into the infrastructure that drives all the traffic from the customer data center to the Acronis Disaster Recovery data center, and the product impact becomes low. Hence, the disaster recovery site gets built in 15 minutes, and we can start working on it. We deploy the solution on cloud.
Technical Director at Tecstaq
A great solution for running into data centers or full-location data centers for our customers
Pros and Cons
- "The solution can be improved by including a load balancer."
- "The cost is acceptable."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Acronis Disaster Recovery has a test which allows us to test the environment quarterly or every three months. If you are taking a service backup for disaster recovery, it enables you to do the test at no cost. So every quarter, they provide credits allowing you to create a tested disaster, move one or two servers into disaster, and then see the process. So, when a disaster happens, if we have already tested it a couple of times, it becomes straightforward to flip the switch, and disaster recovery happens.
What needs improvement?
The customization part on the infrastructure side requires a certain amount of time for URL-based forwarding because the server is assigned to a DNS. Whenever the DR happens, the new IP comes into the picture so they need to get a load balancer before the DR infrastructure, so all the traffic goes to the local data center. When there is no DR, and if there's a disaster in the local data center then that route gets chopped off and then the new routes open, which is forwarded to the DR location. Hence, the solution can be improved by including a load balancer. It becomes very easy to give only one IP to the interface and the users regardless of what you have in the packet and which IP is running the system.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using the solution for approximately two years and are currently working with the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
We do not have experience with customer service and support because we have certified employees who have been able to solve the issues.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not complex and there is a process. We have to create a backup and set it up on the router or virtual machine, which communicates back to the local and virtual data centers. It's not that complicated, but the configuration takes some time.
When we want to deploy the solution, the customer informs us beforehand if they are looking for Disaster Recovery because the usual backup storages are different in Acronis. When we do Disaster Recovery, there are various places where the data gets stored because it's hot data. So, there are multiple data centers and we install the agent on the server, take the backup on disaster recovery storage, and it keeps backing up. Then, if disaster gets called, the router, configured in the data center, diverts the traffic to a disaster recovery site of the Acronis data center. Deployment time is dependent on the number of servers. One person is required for deployment, and the solution is not difficult to maintain.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is inexpensive because we provide a test environment to test the failovers. Considering the features and the solution's disaster recovery storage, the cost is acceptable.
What other advice do I have?
I rate the solution a nine out of ten. The solution is good, but the customization can be improved by including a load balancer. I advise users considering implementing this solution to do a complete test on the product before they buy.

IT security consultant at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
Suitable for mid-sized and small businesses with reliable data protection and recovery
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features of the product for me are its backup and recovery functionalities."
- "I wish the Disaster Recovery system could do more, like integrating irregularity features and combining VLP functionalities."
What is our primary use case?
We mostly use it for data backup and replication.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of the product for me are its backup and recovery functionalities. They have come in handy a few times when we needed to find old data or fix things. It has been a lifesaver in keeping our important stuff safe.
What needs improvement?
I haven't identified any specific areas for improvement in the product so far. Everything has been working smoothly for us, and I haven't encountered any issues that need immediate attention. However, I wish the Disaster Recovery system could do more, like integrating irregularity features and combining VLP functionalities. It would be great if it also handled endpoint protection, so we don't need another vendor for emails. If one product could do all this, it would be easier to manage and might give us better pricing options. This would benefit both us and our customers, and the company could grow by offering a wider range of services.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Acronis Disaster Recovery for a few years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Acronis Disaster Recovery has been stable for us. We haven't experienced any significant downtime or data loss situations. We feel confident that it can handle major disasters, although we haven't had to put it to that test yet.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of Acronis Disaster Recovery is a bit limited, mainly because the pricing and licensing model isn't very flexible. In my experience, Acronis Disaster Recovery is a better fit for mid-sized and small businesses. Large enterprises, particularly in sectors like finance, tend to prefer in-house infrastructure due to data security concerns and a preference for keeping critical data under their direct control. On the other hand, mid-sized and smaller businesses find Acronis more accessible and cost-effective, making it a great choice for them.
How are customer service and support?
The tech support for Acronis Disaster Recovery has been good for us. The support team is knowledgeable, and the service is available in our area at suitable times. However, there can be occasional delays in response time, which can be frustrating for users. When clients have to wait for support for extended periods, issues may remain unsolved, and it is not always feasible to keep clients waiting. So, while the support quality is generally good, improving response times would be beneficial.
How was the initial setup?
The setup for Acronis Disaster Recovery can be a bit complex at times, especially when configuring and finding devices.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In terms of pricing, it would be better if it were more straightforward and open to negotiation.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate Acronis Disaster Recovery as an eight out of ten. It is a good product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

At rest encryption, priced well, and easy setup
Pros and Cons
- "One key feature is it encrypts your data at rest which is really good."
- "The documentation can be improved, this would have helped."
What is most valuable?
One key feature is it encrypts your data at rest which is really good.
What needs improvement?
The documentation can be improved, this would have helped. There are certain things that we misconfigured. If we had a clearer understanding of how the backup worked, it would have been a better backup policy.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used the solution for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution has been stable so far and It took a while to set up. It is stable when you are backing up locally but becomes less stable when backing up to the cloud. We were having communications with the web but once we went to a local backup and sent it off to the cloud, it was more stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution. However, you will be paying a lot more for the license if you want to increase the scalability.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is fairly easy to setup. It can be more complicated if you want to do a local backup and then have that backup go to the cloud. You have to do the backup local because we had to once recover a server and recovering a server from web-based applications is not good. It just took too long, you should have a local way of recovery because something can get corrupted.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of the solution is inexpensive. Considering it is an enterprise type of backup. It is not an outrageous price.
What other advice do I have?
It is good practice to have local backups even when you have them on the cloud. This was important when it became time to recovery our data. You will want the backup locally if you want to expedite the recovery of a large data configuration.
I rate Acronis Disaster Recovery an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

What is most valuable?
The backup and recovery options work flawlessly.
The solution is very easy to use, with a single-click recovery.
The customer is able to scale up to any extent that they require.
The gateway option allows people to take backups from the AWS and Google cloud platforms.
What needs improvement?
In the future, I would like to see cross-platform support.
You should be able to better manage the cost involved in transferring data when there are cross-platform activities.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Acronis Disaster Recovery for about one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This product is very much stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability and availability aspects are good. This product is highly scalable, and in my previous company, we had it installed in two to three different remote locations.
We sold more than 500 licenses and each of our clients had a minimum of 40 or 50 users. There were a couple of enterprise clients with more than 200 users. In total, between all of our clients, I would say that there were more than 6,000 users.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is absolutely good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did use other solutions prior to working with Acronis, although they were open-source. We switched because we had to consider support, scalability, availability, and other things.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is very easy. As far as the end-user is concerned, it is just a matter of getting the client installed remotely. Overall, it is not complex, and it takes perhaps 15 or 20 minutes to install.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This pricing is quite reasonable.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate other options before choosing Acronis.
What other advice do I have?
In previous versions, Acronis did not support taking backups from AWS or Google Cloud. However, this option has been added and they are now able to integrate with them.
This is a good product and I feel confident recommending it to any of my customers. I would suggest that people considering it go ahead and implement it. if there are any concerns then a PoC should be able to answer them.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
