Offers seamless remote access with strong platform integration
Pros and Cons
  • "I would recommend Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, especially for general support."
  • "I rate Microsoft's customer service support a two out of ten. In general, Microsoft has poor support."

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case for Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is for remote access to a work computer, which includes working from home and accessing a work computer or server management. It involves being able to remotely access the server and get to the console.

What is most valuable?

A valuable feature of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is its native integration with Microsoft platforms. It is enabled by default on any Windows product, which means it is not a third-party utility. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is available and installed by default for all Microsoft Windows products.

What needs improvement?

I think it does what it does well, so there is nothing that needs improvement. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is very utilitarian and suits my use cases perfectly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have had experience with Microsoft Remote Desktop Services for twenty-five years.

How are customer service and support?

I rate Microsoft's customer service support a two out of ten. In general, Microsoft has poor support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

Depending on the use case and limited usage, I would rate the setup five to six out of ten. It can be somewhat complex in some cases, especially when used as an enterprise solution. Some configurations can be complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In limited use cases, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is free as it is defaulted by any Microsoft license. The paid version for enterprise requires RDS CALs, or client access licenses. These licenses are not cheap, as they add up in cost.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, especially for general support. For accessing servers, it is an excellent solution. Overall, I rate the solution as a nine out of ten.

Facilitates global access and simplifies multi-device connectivity
Pros and Cons
  • "I recommend Citrix DaaS (formerly Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service) for companies distributed across the world because it facilitates easy configuration and deployment without extensive infrastructure."
  • "The price is currently high, and having tiered pricing would benefit companies."

What is our primary use case?

I recommend Citrix DaaS (formerly Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service) for companies distributed across the world because it facilitates easy configuration and deployment without extensive infrastructure.

What is most valuable?

The most beneficial feature of Citrix DaaS is the gateways, which enable people from several countries to connect easily. Citrix is device agnostic, making it easier for companies to adopt. With Citrix, all connections are outgoing, minimizing firewall vulnerability. Citrix has various methods to deploy applications, such as layering and profile managers. It is highly adaptable, which is crucial for addressing multiple needs.

What needs improvement?

The price is currently high, and having tiered pricing would benefit companies. In Spain, many companies find Citrix DaaS expensive. Citrix should have different pricing based on company size. Technical support could improve, as the first level of support often wastes time. More direct access to engineers would speed up resolution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Citrix DaaS allows for satisfactory stability by facilitating workload deployment in various data centers including Azure, Google, or AWS, enabling high availability and scalability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Citrix DaaS offers vast scalability options as workloads can be deployed across multiple data centers like Azure, Google, or AWS. This ensures high availability and workload distribution to meet demands.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support could be improved. The first level often wastes time because I usually have to escalate to an engineer for proper support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Citrix DaaS is considered expensive, especially for companies that do not require multi-cloud. Tiered pricing based on company size would be beneficial.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I also work with other vendors like Horizon by Onisa and Parallels. UDS Enterprise is another product in Spain.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Citrix DaaS because it is at the top of the market due to its proprietary protocol, ICA. Horizon by Onisa has a similarly strong protocol, Blast Extreme. Using products based on proprietary protocols ensures reliable support. Citrix DaaS needs to improve its support and pricing strategy. Overall, I would rate Citrix DaaS at nine because it is robust, although there is always room for improvement.
