Reliable hardware has kept critical data center services running nonstop with minimal intervention
Pros and Cons
  • "Dell PowerEdge MX- Series has positively impacted my organization by being the backbone, and I am the gatekeeper for monitoring and troubleshooting, and this product makes my life easy by not giving me any downtime and working up to the mark."
  • "I wanted to highlight that sometimes the patches from the firmware are not compatible with the hardware, which can crash the operating system and mess up the RAID configuration."

What is our primary use case?

In our data center, we have a lot of servers, and we have an infra server where we have a domain controller, a file storage server where we have a Dell server, an application server, and a proxy server in our setup. We mostly use the Dell server.

I am currently using only the MX- Series, and I never get a chance to use the modular design in Dell PowerEdge MX- Series.

What is most valuable?

The best features of the MX- Series are its performance, which can work 24/7 without rebooting. As for durability and solid hardware, the last reboot for this server was six months ago, and there are no blue screen errors; everything is fine.

The most valuable feature is that it does not experience downtime easily. Since we have had downtime getting the server down for troubleshooting and replacing parts, that situation has not happened while I am working.

Dell PowerEdge MX- Series has positively impacted my organization by being the backbone, and I am the gatekeeper for monitoring and troubleshooting. This product makes my life easy by not giving me any downtime and working up to the mark.

What needs improvement?

I wanted to highlight that sometimes the patches from the firmware are not compatible with the hardware, which can crash the operating system and mess up the RAID configuration. If the patches are corrupted from the software level, we can roll back from safe mode, but if they crash on a hardware level, the whole box goes down, and it is very difficult to get the server online.

The product cost is fine, but the licensing cost is much higher. For the licensing regarding Dell storage and warranty, if they could give us some discounts for extending the warranty on a Dell part, that would be beneficial for my organization.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working for the last ten years with this Dell Blade server.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Everything is all good, and the RAM, RAM speed, and CPU core are fine. The fan is working for two to three years with no sound, and we are only going to do cleaning. All the Dell devices and the infrastructure are working fine.

My experience with the stability aspect is very positive. It is hard to get this server or the devices down with any hardware issue or patching. Despite power fluctuations, the server is working fine without motherboard or hardware issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I can say the scalability aspect of Dell PowerEdge MX- Series is a 9.5, but if you want to convince me more, you can mention it as 10 out of 10.

I am not trying to convince you; that is my valid experience working with the technology, and I keep it at 9.5 for me and give it 9.5 to the company.

How are customer service and support?

Once I log a case with the Dell vendor, they respond very well. If we need to replace the RAM module or have any troubleshoot activity, the Dell engineer will be available to fix whatever the issue is.

I purchased Dell directly through the Dell vendor, not through third parties.

How would you rate customer service and support?

How was the initial setup?

When Dell PowerEdge MX- Series was delivered in my data center, the unmounting and mounting from the rack went very smoothly. They are cushioned with plastic and foam, and I do not have any difficulty mounting or unmounting in the rack. The quality is very high, and you can feel it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I do not find significant differences because HP is also good. However, when you compare them, you cannot compare BMW with a Mercedes; they are all brands. Both technologies are very fine, but I go for Dell because it makes my life easy.

What other advice do I have?

Regarding storage capacity, the local storage is fine, and we also have a Dell EMC for the storage. Both are working very well, so we are doing well from the Dell perspective.

If my company and my setup are working fine, I will definitely suggest going for Dell. The support, product, and application are good, and even after sales, Dell contacts us for feedback about any issues or planning for migration or purchasing other technologies. Their connectivity and communication with us is very frequent.

As a product, I rate Dell PowerEdge MX- Series as a very good product, and I would give it an overall rating of 9.5.

Reliable servers have supported everyday network services but pricing and AI features need work
Pros and Cons
  • "My experience with Dell PowerEdge C- Series is very good and positive."
  • "I am uncertain about the return on investment and whether I have seen a return on investment with Dell PowerEdge C- Series."

What is our primary use case?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge C- Series in my company for more than 10 years. One hundred people are using Nexus 9000 in my company. I consider my local area network to be medium-sized for just 100 people, and not high when considering the overlay technology in Nexus. The benefits of my local area network features come from using Dell PowerEdge C- Series. I have a file server and print server for the normal use of my work facilities.

How has it helped my organization?

AI technology must be included in the future. The main improvement I think is the price when considering room for improvement regarding first-level support or response time.

What is most valuable?

All features for the local area network, including domain controller, DHCP, DNS, and even VLANs, have been the most valuable features I have found.

Dell PowerEdge C- Series is very flexible when discussing the flexibility of its storage configurations in meeting my data volumes.

What needs improvement?

AI technology must be included in the future.

The main improvement I think is the price when considering room for improvement regarding first-level support or response time.

I am uncertain about the return on investment and whether I have seen a return on investment with Dell PowerEdge C- Series.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge C- Series for more than 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I think AI technology must be included in the future. Dell PowerEdge C- Series is suitable for me when rating stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I do not have high-density interfaces.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the technical support at eight out of ten. I think the technical support team is responding well regarding response time and overall competence, but my experience is limited to one or two interactions.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I worked with HP servers before Dell PowerEdge C- Series. HP servers are also very suitable.

How was the initial setup?

I did not take part in the deployment of Dell PowerEdge C- Series.

What about the implementation team?

I deployed Dell PowerEdge C- Series by myself.

What was our ROI?

I do not know whether I have seen a return on investment with Dell PowerEdge C- Series.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I just use normal switches for the domain controller in the network, as I have not used the advanced thermal management solutions of Dell PowerEdge C- Series.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

HP servers are also very suitable.

What other advice do I have?

I just have Cisco switches, such as Cisco XDR and Secure Access, and Cisco Duo. I have one Cisco router and also have Cisco switches and routers. I do not work with Cisco Meraki products. I cannot remember the version of my Cisco switches, but the current switches are very suitable for me, and I am not familiar with the Cisco Nexus 9000 series.

I have been working with the Cisco Nexus 9000 series for three years. I just use a normal policy, not the advanced policy-driven approach in Nexus. I do not utilize the high-density interfaces for Ethernet. The integration with Cisco DNA has not facilitated agile network management for me.

I did not use any metrics when evaluating the effectiveness of Nexus 9000. The product has been stable and easy to use. The pricing is very high because it is a very high technology device. I cannot rate Cisco Nexus 9000 overall because I did not use it. I have just normal switches as a matter of fact. I did not try the Cisco Cloud Services Router at all.

I have a rack-mounted server, which is Dell PowerEdge. I am familiar with Dell PowerEdge C- Series. I do not have advanced security features, just normal features for my local area network. I have not had any idea about whether the compute capability has benefited my organization's data processing tasks. My experience with Dell PowerEdge C- Series is very good and positive. I do not have any idea regarding the room for improvement in Dell PowerEdge C- Series.

I consider the price of Dell PowerEdge C- Series to be medium and just suitable for me. I am still using HP in addition to Dell. I think rack-mounted servers are better in my opinion when comparing HP servers and Dell PowerEdge C- Series. HP does not have any advantages over Dell PowerEdge C- Series. I am not using them for different purposes. The deployment was easy, and I did not have any difficulties. Dell PowerEdge C- Series is on-premises. I think AI technology must be included in the future as an additional feature I would like to see in Dell PowerEdge C- Series to make it even better.

I would rate both HP and Dell technical support at seven out of ten. The charge for support is very high regarding the price for support. I would rate this review overall at eight out of ten.
