Decades of use have delivered secure, customizable control for public sector operations and finance
Pros and Cons
  • "I have not found another product that even comes close to PeopleSoft."
  • "First-level support is poor, but second-level support has been fantastic."

What is our primary use case?

I work with many industries, and my most recent work was in the public sector. Currently, I am helping a public sector client manage the supply chain and operations. I deal mostly in operations, inventory, supply chain management, as well as on the finance side, including general ledger, accounts payable, and purchasing.

What is most valuable?

The customizability to exactly match the requirements of the customer is what I appreciate about PeopleSoft.

PeopleSoft is entirely flexible internally within the ecosystem and is completely customizable with delivered integrations to many other third-party products.

PeopleSoft enforces the rules, so nobody can bend the interpretation of any regulatory requirement.

I have not found another product that even comes close to PeopleSoft. PeopleSoft can secure a page, a table, a process, down to the field if required. It is fantastic at security.

What needs improvement?

More delivered artificial intelligence functionality in operations and finance would be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked with PeopleSoft for more than twenty years.

How are customer service and support?

First-level support is poor, but second-level support has been fantastic.

I would say their support is not only through person and email response but includes invaluable documentation. Everything in PeopleSoft is documented, and quite often, I can find my answers through the documentation. I have not found any other enterprise resource planning systems that are as well documented or as easily searchable as PeopleSoft.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not used JD Edwards in the last year. I am familiar with it, but not as familiar as PeopleSoft.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is customer-specific, so I am not generally privy to what the pricing for licensing is. However, generally, I think PeopleSoft is certainly cheaper than cloud solutions.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I moved away from Dropbox, Dropbox Sign, and Dropbox Enterprise a while ago, so I have no idea what they are doing now. I am in the last month starting to look at Odoo, which is a financial enterprise resource planning system.

What other advice do I have?

I have just completed three assessments: one on inventory demand planning, another on using artificial intelligence to bring supplier contracts in portable document format directly into PeopleSoft.

PeopleSoft works both internally as well as with third-party products that integrate seamlessly with PeopleSoft.

PeopleSoft operates both from a need-to-know-only basis as well as being able at the same time to do group purchase and realize large quantity purchase discounts.

My clients have used marketplaces, and it is really industry-specific whether they use one or not, or if there is even one available.

I would rate this product nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Has supported global operations through multi-currency and modular customization
Pros and Cons
  • "The modular design of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne helps my organization customize its ERP functionalities because that's one of the key features of the software."
  • "Oracle's support is not that good for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Their support is expensive, and I don't think you're getting your bang for your buck."

What is our primary use case?

It's a solution that can be used across different departments within the company, just like any other ERP. The modular design of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne helps my organization customize its ERP functionalities because that's one of the key features of the software. They give you a platform to customize.

What is most valuable?

It was a good product because it was multi-platform, so it could run on any platform.

I utilize the multi-currency feature in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. The multi-currency feature affects our global operations and helped us implement it across South Africa, Japan, Portugal, and South Korea.

What needs improvement?

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne's analytics are not that helpful. People generally attach other analytic solutions to it. This is something that JD Edwards EnterpriseOne could improve on.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have about 22 years of experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

How are customer service and support?

Oracle's support is not that good for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Their support is expensive, and I don't think you're getting your bang for your buck. For the cloud product, they do give you support, but everything is online and you might not get somebody. I would give Oracle's support for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne about a 6.5 on a scale of one to 10.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I use JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and I also use Oracle ERP Cloud. I've used Sage as well. Those are the primary ones that I've used.

Sage is a very low-end product compared to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Sage is similar to QuickBooks, but it's in the cloud. I don't even know if Sage Intacct is another name for Sage. I used it at some point, and it's very low-end. I wouldn't even consider that among the big ERP solutions such as SAP, Oracle ERP Cloud, or JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Initially, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne was priced very high, and the licensing is very expensive. I think Oracle has revised those prices. Competition has perhaps forced them to revise those pricing because there are other products that come on the market that challenge JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. If it's being challenged, then that means it's not going to be sustainable over a long time on those price points, or people will be forced to rotate off JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and go on to the cloud platform that Oracle owns or some other version of ERP that they have.

What other advice do I have?

I have experience with similar solutions and also this product, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. I haven't worked with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne for the last 18 months, but I still know the product. I am familiar with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne's analytics. I gave this review a rating of 9.
