Useful for file sharing permission analysis with a straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
  • "The documentation for this solution is good."
  • "Customers prefer ManageEngine ADAudit Plus to other solutions because they produce good results for comparatively lower prices."
  • "Sometimes the developers in technical support take time."

What is our primary use case?

This solution meets our expectations. We use this solution mainly for login details, and to see the login details from different areas. We collect user login information like user work covers and low code. We also use it for file sharing permission analysis and permission check.

What is most valuable?

Our company concentrates on user work hours to get all the users to connect to the end machines and see their work. We also use this solution for logo-related items. The documentation for this solution is good.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for more than ten years and we are using the most recent version. It is deployed on-premises.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

I rate the technical support an eight out of ten. They are good, but sometimes the developers in technical support take time.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward and it took about an hour for installation. We completed the installation ourselves. I rate the setup an eight out of ten.

The solution requires some maintenance in the database. We have about 15 users of ManageEngine ADAudit Plus.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I do not have specific details on pricing but the price is average compared to other solutions. Customers prefer ManageEngine ADAudit Plus to other solutions because they produce good results for comparatively lower prices. We have to pay if additional features are added. I rate the pricing a ten out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution a nine out of ten. I would recommend this solution to others because of the price.

User-friendly with reports not found anywhere else
Pros and Cons
  • "ADAudit Plus's best features are that it's very easy to use with a user-friendly interface, and it gives reports on group policy and object changes that we couldn't find in any other product."
  • "ADAudit Plus can be very tricky, especially if we need to do some high-availability configuration or distributed environment installation."

What is our primary use case?

I mainly use ADAudit Plus to control changes in group policy objects in Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD.

What is most valuable?

ADAudit Plus's best features are that it's very easy to use with a user-friendly interface, and it gives reports on group policy and object changes that we couldn't find in any other product.

What needs improvement?

ADAudit Plus can be very tricky, especially if we need to do some high-availability configuration or distributed environment installation. They could improve this by making their documentation clearer. In the next release, ADAudit Plus should include tighter integration with QRadar because their standard syslog forwarding needs a lot of parsing and configuration on the QRadar SIEM system site, which requires a lot of manual work.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using ADAudit Plus for about three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

ADAudit Plus is quite stable and works as expected.

How are customer service and support?

ManageEngine's technical support team are very helpful and do their best to solve any question. In general, I'm very satisfied with their level of support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and simple - all you need is a server, a connection to your environment, and the installation package. However, the setup could be quite complex if you have a different database or need a distributed environment or high-availability installations. Deployment takes a few hours.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

ADAudit Plus's pricing is affordable and flexible, with very low prices in the market. They offer perpetual licenses with additional support and maintenance fees and subscription licenses paid annually.

What other advice do I have?

To install ADAudit Plus successfully, potential customers should understand they have to give some extended rights to the product because it has to have extended access to their domain infrastructure to work properly. I would give ADAudit Plus a rating of eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

The user behavior analytics creates a profile of each user and detects any deviation from it
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the user behavior analytics (UBA). It's a machine learning feature that creates a standard profile for each user when you install it. It creates a baseline for every user, so it can detect when anyone deviates from that standard baseline profile. For example, if a user typically logs in at 9:30 am and logs out at 6 pm, ADAudit will flag it as an anomaly when that same logs in after normal hours and alert the admins."
  • "ADAudit saves you the expense of hiring an outside auditor for compliance with regulations like PCI DSS or PCA."
  • "ADAudit could have a more sophisticated interface design. They are using a plain UI, which is decent. However, customers have said that it looks a little flat compared to other vendors. It's not fancy."

What is our primary use case?

ADAudit supports local Active Directory change management. When there is a change, the event is logged in the domain controller or on the member server and it immediately alerts the administrator.

You can get a notification when a user logs on after hours. For example, say you have a business-critical server containing all the financial data. If someone logs onto that machine after work hours, you'll get a notification telling you who is logging in and why.

What is most valuable?

I like the user behavior analytics (UBA). It's a machine learning feature that creates a standard profile for each user when you install it. It creates a baseline for every user, so it can detect when anyone deviates from that standard baseline profile. For example, if a user typically logs in at 9:30 am and logs out at 6 pm, ADAudit will flag it as an anomaly when that same logs in after normal hours and alert the admins.

What needs improvement?

ADAudit could have a more sophisticated interface design. They are using a plain UI, which is decent. However, customers have said that it looks a little flat compared to other vendors. It's not fancy.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with ADAudit for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

If you have all the prerequisites and everything correctly configured before implementing the software, ADAudit will work fine. You have hardware and software prerequisites, like the framework, PowerShell modules, etc. If you are working with the Azure Active Directory, you need to install the Azure module.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

ADAudit is scalable, and we support high availability for that purpose. You can have more than 100 domain controllers out of the box. We have tested it with 500-plus file servers, and 100-plus 10-inch Azure Active Directory tenants.

I'm talking about the professional edition, so it's all scalable, and if someone wants to run with a SQL high availability group, they can do that. It's suitable for enterprises of all sizes.

How are customer service and support?

I would give ManageEngine support 10 out of 10 because they've been helpful in terms of integrations. If there is an issue with REST API or there isn't native integration with a tool the customer is using, they will always come up REST API solution.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

Onboarding is pretty simple. It's all about configuring the Active Directory audit policies. All enterprises have their own Active Directory admins, so the admins simply need to create an audit policy in their Active Directory. It takes about 30 or 45 minutes to set up the software. You will get a report and the user behavior analytics working.

One person is enough to deploy the solution. It will usually be the admin who's handling the professional services. We do all the maintenance for our customers. We have a process called Health Check, where we contact the end-users every six months. It involves a set of questions for every product to determine if the solution is fully utilized.

What was our ROI?

ADAudit saves you the expense of hiring an outside auditor for compliance with regulations like PCI DSS or PCA. You don't have to spend much on auditing because ADAudit keeps you in compliance by default. It's an out-of-the-box feature. All the reports can be downloaded from the application. ROI is something. It's a lot cheaper, in the long run, to pay for this software rather than hiring auditors.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

ADAudit is licensed based on the number of domain controllers, file services, member services, and workstations. It's affordable compared to bigger vendors You pay about one-fourth of what other vendors charge. It's pretty inexpensive.

What other advice do I have?

I rate ManageEngine ADAudit nine out of 10. Every business needs a solution like this for their mission-critical infrastructure.

Good for monitoring your active directory with great file server control
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the control of the file server."
  • "The initial setup was quite complex and required some research beforehand."
  • "One problem with ADAudit is that it has too many configurations to apply to the active directory server, which makes it difficult to use."

What is our primary use case?

I use this tool to check what configurations the technicians are doing in the active directory and what kind of modifications the users are making in private servers.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the control of the file server.

What needs improvement?

One problem with ADAudit is that it has too many configurations to apply to the active directory server, which makes it difficult to use. This could be improved by adding a feature that could automatically apply the right configuration.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for approximately six years.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was quite complex and required some research beforehand. The complicated part was the pre-setup to make sure the software can collect the data.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented this product using an in-house team.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this product a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Monitors user activities and offers extensive built-in reports
Pros and Cons
  • "The monitoring and reporting are extensive and we get all the information we need while they continue to enhance the capabilities of the product."
  • "We are happy with this product; we use it for multiple purposes and we get a lot of useful information from it."
  • "There are so many reports that it sometimes makes it difficult to navigate to what you need."
  • "There are so many reports that it can be a headache."

What is our primary use case?

We mostly use this product to facilitate monitoring of user login activities and user file activities.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is really the reason for the product and that is monitoring activity. The product gives us a lot of information. There are a lot of reports. It takes all the audits correctly. It monitors all the management activities such as user management and group management — everything that we need to know is monitored. You also get a file auditor, which is a very good feature. From this, we get a lot of information like what files are added, which files have been edited, what files have moved, and what files have been deleted. It is complete file monitoring.

We also have the workstation audit component installed so we can see login activities, local user work hours — like how many hours they worked with particular things. We are collecting all that data and we are able to review all of that information.

What needs improvement?

The only improvement I can think of is that maybe they could improve a little on how easy it is to use. In my experience, it is very user-friendly in general terms but there are possibly even too many reports. There are so many reports that it can be a headache. If there was a way to customize reporting or a way to build customized views, this could simplify the navigation of the reports. If we can make our own views, that would be a fine enhancement.

So that is what I would like to see in the next update: improvement on the organization and customization possibilities in the reporting feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the product for the last six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

They keep upgrading their product with their latest builds. Sometimes on some of the builds, we find bugs. Bugs happening in the product, but they are always ready to resolve the problems. We have no issues with them dealing in with that in a timely manner.

Once we get the stabilized version, we keep upgrading the product. There will be some other additional bugs. If we find them then we report them and they issue a fix or another version. That is productive and cooperative behavior. Almost all products still have some small bugs. You get a few little bugs here and there and they have to resolve them eventually.

I don't feel that they need to improve in any technical aspect because they keep making the effort to make the product stable and improve it. I cannot always say in which area they have improved the product between versions and releases, but when I go into the application I see most of the things that we have asked about or required. What we are working on and what we need or ask for is usually resolved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to scale. Right now, the product is mainly used by only three or four people from our organization. They are only in an administrative capacity. But there should not really be a limitation on the potential number of users.

We are using it on a daily basis. But I suppose we use it as per requirement only. It could be on a weekly basis or less. We have different reports scheduled as well and different users have different analytical requirements for the application. So it is used as needed.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have had the opportunity to evaluate the company's customer support. They are very good and approach the concepts of support very well. We get a response from them within one day. If not, we can call them directly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of the product is straightforward. We were able to deploy it by ourselves. It takes maybe a maximum of half an hour to deploy. The process is not difficult.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not familiar with the exact costs, but I know that for adding features and other functionality it costs you more. Also, for the first installation, we paid an additional amount.

What other advice do I have?

We are happy with this product. We use it for multiple purposes and we get a lot of useful information from it.

When we get new features in the product, we always look for ways to deploy those to enhance our options and increase the functionality of the product. Now almost all of the features and options we were looking for are available. The dashboard is fine. They are still improving it, and on the latest version, we can see how the product is continuing to improve. They improve it more and more with enhancements in every release. If we want something that is new, we will always get in touch with them to ask them to include the feature. They have done very well in providing these enhancements.

When I require a feature, I just contact them to inform them of the requirements and they will often include it in the next build. I believe most of ManageEngine's products are handled like that. We have requested a lot of adjustments to features from ManageEngine that they have included in the product.

The reporting is good, the dashboards are good, the interface is good and even their pricing strategy is competitive in this product category.

Anyone can implement this software easily. As long as they have a domain controller and a file server, they can use the software.

I recommend this product. Compared to other products of a similar type, it is very good. The possibilities for integration are easy to implement. There are some limitations to the type of software integration. For example, some type of load correction software integration is possible and there are some other possibilities. But these limitations are not so important. It is easy to integrate when the opportunity is there.

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate ManageEngine ADAudit Plus as an eight or nine. I could not give this a ten as only something perfect would get a ten. It can be a nine.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
