What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is not a scalable solution.

I am sure that the number of people using the solution in my company is not less than ten.

My company does not plan to increase the use of the solution since all 15 people who are concerned with the use of the solution are okay with that presently.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Earlier, in my company, we were not using any systems. It is only recently that my company chose to go for an upgrade.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase is very simple.

The solution's setup can be completed in less than an hour.

Reliable on‑prem server has supported ad, backups and file sharing while reducing downtime
Pros and Cons
  • "Having a robust, consolidated solution like Dell PowerEdge reduced our unplanned downtime and internal unavailability issues, so it has been a complete success."
  • "The cost is relatively high regarding how Dell PowerEdge T-Series could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

BioTech is a small company, and we use Dell PowerEdge T-Series servers extensively, specifically the Dell PowerEdge T130, as an Active Directory controller. We also use it for internal DHCP, internal DNS, and to host internal applications such as UniFi as the controller for the Ubiquitis, as well as a file server.

Dell PowerEdge T-Series delivers reliability and performance, which allows us to carry out these functions within the organization extremely well. We do not have problems with this server.

Dell PowerEdge T130 is a basic server, but for small organizations used as an AD controller or as a server to host a small staging/homologation environment for applications, it is essential and fundamental, and it serves that purpose well.

The Dell PowerEdge T130 we have meets the basic demands within the organization—AD controller, UniFi to control the Ubiquitis, backup manager hosting an application that pulls backups, and an internal file server. It delivers performance that is within expectations. The main improvements I have noticed are precisely in terms of delivery. Unlike other servers that have let me down, Dell can meet my needs well in my environment.

What is most valuable?

The best features that Dell PowerEdge T-Series offers include the iDRAC board. We can control the server remotely and independently. If it shows any kind of abnormal situation, generates any event, or creates a critical situation, iDRAC notifies and logs everything. For management, iDRAC really stands out as a very good solution, and unlike some competitors, it has the Dell brand, which brings confidence and reliability that I consider essential for enterprise environments.

I have already needed to use advanced remote management features in a critical situation when I needed to force a server reboot when it was completely frozen and I could not do it physically at that moment. iDRAC helped me in this process of rebooting the server, and I was able to operate the server again remotely. That gave us efficiency and agility that were very welcome and well above expectations. Additionally, if some member of the IT team opens the server, I can know that this event occurred. There are several very good features in iDRAC.

What needs improvement?

The cost is relatively high regarding how Dell PowerEdge T-Series could be improved. That is one of the main points I raised even with our partners when we bought the server. The acquisition cost is a bit high. Dell could offer some type of Dell PowerEdge T-Series server at a lower cost as well, focusing on small companies.

Overall, that is the extent of improvements needed or any other point that could be adjusted in this solution. We keep receiving updates normally.

For how long have I used the solution?

It has been more than five years that I have been working in my current role.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Dell PowerEdge T-Series is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It has very good scalability; we can perform upgrades when necessary.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Dell PowerEdge T-Series is adequate. Although the response time is a bit long for a corporate environment, I understand that it is acceptable and nothing out of the ordinary.

I rate customer support for Dell PowerEdge T-Series as nine.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used a custom-built server that I built myself. I bought the motherboard, processor, disks, memory, and everything from different suppliers, and this lack of integration for a corporate environment led to unexpected outages. Having a robust, consolidated solution like Dell PowerEdge reduced our unplanned downtime and internal unavailability issues, so it has been a complete success.

What was our ROI?

In the long run, using Dell PowerEdge T-Series helped me reduce the total cost of ownership in my organization, since it was spread out over the months because it was acquired through a leasing model. With each passing month, after we had finished paying for the server, we started to see substantial gains.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The acquisition cost of Dell PowerEdge T-Series was definitely one of the most impactful factors. Regarding licensing, iDRAC has a paid plan, but the free plan already meets what we need. Overall, for small companies that are looking for reliability, I recommend it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated HP solutions and HP Enterprise before choosing Dell PowerEdge T-Series, but the cost was still relatively similar, and I ended up choosing Dell.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, Dell PowerEdge T-Series is a good product regarding its features.

We have two Dell PowerEdge servers, and because of the reliability between the servers, since they are both Dell PowerEdge, I can have interoperability between them with very good synchronization. When we need to do an upgrade or some preventive maintenance, we have the confidence that we will not have any kind of impact on the organization. We have a structured plan and can keep these servers running for the long term.

This server has brought more flexibility to BioTech's operations. When we did the quotes to purchase a new server, considering everything it delivers, even though the cost is a bit higher, we ended up choosing it, and it delivers what we need in this internal environment.

It meets the sustainability goals that were defined at the beginning of the year regarding the impact of Dell PowerEdge T-Series on my organization's sustainability goals.

Dell PowerEdge T-Series definitely helped reduce unplanned downtime in my operation. There was a reduction in downtime precisely because it delivers one of the main things that Dell PowerEdge T-Series offers, which is reliability. We have a relatively robust server for our environment, and we do not have headaches with it. We simply let it run and only stop it for preventive maintenance.

We managed to reduce unplanned downtime with Dell PowerEdge T-Series, precisely because we previously had a custom-built server and we frequently had failures with it—unexpected disk failures, a motherboard failure that needed advanced repair, and later memory failures. Since it was a server assembled piece by piece, we had issues with unexpected outages and internal impact. Now we do not have that anymore with Dell PowerEdge T-Series.

On this T130 server that we have, we do not run AI or machine learning workloads specifically in our environment. We use it more for internal matters and internal management of the environment. However, I believe that depending on the Dell PowerEdge T-Series model, you can run small models, maybe with some small upgrades, and run these small models without major difficulty.

The newer Dell PowerEdge servers are very efficient in terms of energy and deliver a reasonable energy cost-benefit.

Dell PowerEdge T-Series is deployed locally.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A server that offers high storage capacity and great scalability
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of the solution is its high storage capacity, making it a good product."
  • "It is not easy to move around tower servers, especially since it is heavy to load the server somewhere. The heaviness of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."

What is our primary use case?

Dell PowerEdge T is a product that consists of tower servers, which my organization made available for five of our clients who were not looking for rack servers.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution is its high storage capacity, making it a good product.

What needs improvement?

It is not easy to move around tower servers, especially since it is heavy to load the server somewhere. The heaviness of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge T for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten. Dell PowerEdge T is a very good product, but it's a heavy solution for which my organization has only specific customers. Customers don't prefer tower servers because they are not easily movable and require a lot of space.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine and a half out of ten.

Three or four people are required to take care of the maintenance and deployment of Dell PowerEdge T since it is a very heavy product to move around.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is good. My company receives quick support from Dell's support team.

How was the initial setup?

I don't have much experience with the product's deployment process.

I am not familiar with the product's deployment process, but the product is used by those types of clients who do not want rack servers and are only looking for tower servers.

What was our ROI?

I am unsure if the product ensures an ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My company's clients make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. The product is neither expensive nor cheap.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the solution to those who are just looking for servers and not some specific servers.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.

An excellent choice for enterprise and medium-sized businesses due to its high reliability, robust performance, scalability, and exceptional support
Pros and Cons
  • "The systems are performing flawlessly."
  • "I'm currently working on setting up a lab for AI, big data, and data analysis, and my client needs exceptionally powerful servers, and such high-core counts are not currently offered within the available options."

What is our primary use case?

It is primarily used by a university in their labs, particularly for demanding AI applications and more.

What is most valuable?

The systems are performing flawlessly. They deliver impressive speed, and it's worth noting that we haven't encountered any complaints or negative feedback so far.

What needs improvement?

Currently, we don't have access to high-tier gold processors within the Dell lineup. When we opt for Platinum processors, we get the most top-of-the-line option available, but it maxes out at 52 cores. I'm currently working on setting up a lab for AI, big data, and data analysis, and my client needs exceptionally powerful servers, and such high-core counts are not currently offered within the available options.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for the last two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate its stability capabilities nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate its scalability features as nine out of ten as we're limited to a maximum of 52 cores. We can add additional processors to the system, which is a positive aspect of its scalability.

How are customer service and support?

Their customer support is exceptional. They consistently provide timely and high-quality support, the response time is excellent, and the quality of support they offer is top-notch. Their support staff is not only highly skilled but also very knowledgeable. I would rate it ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy and user-friendly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would rate it five out of ten for pricing because it's not geared towards small industries. For enterprise and large-scale companies, it's actually quite reasonable and not considered very expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I've recently conducted a comparison, evaluating it against Lenovo. In the past, I've also made comparisons with HP's ProLiant series, but PowerEdge is the industry leader and the superior choice.

What other advice do I have?

It is not suitable for small businesses but for enterprises and medium-sized companies. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

  • "The product has valuable hardware components with a long life cycle."
  • "We encounter issues with the power supply maintenance. It could be more stable."

What is most valuable?

The product has valuable hardware components with a long life cycle.

What needs improvement?

We encounter issues with the power supply maintenance. It could be more stable.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Dell PowerEdge T since 2020.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable platform.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable product and suitable for all types of businesses.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support services are good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The product is easy to install and maintain compared to other vendors. It takes around ten days to complete the process. In case of any issues, we can communicate with their technical support and explain it. They appoint a site engineer to resolve it. However, shipping of spare parts takes time. One executive is enough to execute the maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product has medium pricing. We have purchased a yearly support license for it.

What other advice do I have?

Dell PowerEdge T’s device warranty and support services are good. I rate it an eight out of ten as its price is higher than other brands.

Scalable, easy six hour setup, however technical support is terrible
Pros and Cons
  • "Dell PowerEdge T is the easiest of all the manufacturers."
  • "The technical support for Dell PowerEdge T is terrible. Their support does not exist."

What is our primary use case?

We use Dell PowerEdge for running databases.

What is most valuable?

Dell PowerEdge T is the easiest of all the manufacturers. One server is the same as another one because the management system updates the software and the bios.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see Speaker and more AMD processors running. I would like to see PCIe 5 deployed.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge T for thirty years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have found that the stability is good and that is the reason we purchased Dell PowerEdge T.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate the scalability of Dell PowerEdge T an eight.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for Dell PowerEdge T is terrible. Their support does not exist. We do it all ourselves because getting Dell on the phone to answer a technical question is out of the question. They have an NPS score in my book of about five.

What was our ROI?

The ROI with Dell is good. Depending on how big the deployment is customers usually see an ROI around seven months after deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Dell PowerEdge T takes about six hours to set up. We do these in groups of five or ten. We have a team of twenty people and they are all deployment engineers.

What other advice do I have?

Make sure that you work with a channel partner that knows how Dell PowerEdge T operates. I would rate Dell PowerEdge T a seven out of ten.

A cloud solution that help to resolve memory and hard disk issues and has good monitoring features
Pros and Cons
  • "The management features, including iDRAC and OpenManage are important."
  • "PCIe drivers could be included in the storage for good performance."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to resolve memory and hard disk issues via firmware drivers in the case of appliances.

What is most valuable?

The management features, including iDRAC and OpenManage are important. It is used to resolve customer issues. The BIOS Virtual is very flexible, easy to use, and user-friendly. Also, the monitoring tool is good.

What needs improvement?

PCIe drivers could be included in the storage for good performance.

For how long have I used the solution?

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Basic troubleshooting can be done without any downtime. However, in case of hardware failure, there will be downtime. There is a good provision for hard disk failure, so we can replace the hard disk and rebuild the array without downtime. In the case of the Dell PowerEdge T, the NV agent is straightforward to use in logs since it supports up to 24 slots. Using a 24-slot server, you can get up to two user tables and two MDMs by default. Other servers do not have this option, but PowerEdge T does. RAID configuration is also easy on PowerEdge T, and the rebuild time is fast.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and can be used as a high-performance tool for virtualization. You can use the platinum processor. We have to change the configuration if we want high availability.

How are customer service and support?

We get remote support. We can easily collect the logs from there and troubleshoot remotely. We only need to provide on-site support in case of any hardware issue. We can resolve almost all issues remotely because the firmware can only be updated remotely.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The Dell PowerEdge T series is a good choice for standard servers. For data centers, the C series is a better option. However, the T series is sufficient for simple tasks such as stand-alone SQL.

How was the initial setup?

For a primary server, if we use the Dell management, we can install up to five servers at a time in the queue. Deployment depends on your cases. If it is limited, it will happen quickly. In the case of Windows, it will take some time, but it will save you time in the long run.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
