We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We can track changes to our data models and tie those changes back to specific tasks or efforts that we identify.""The most important features are logical and physical models that we can compare and develop. Also, the Data Dictionary can be created out of your studio. Finally, database schemas help understand the logic that's behind the scene, behind the SQL tables. Especially when there are a lot of them, the schemas help everyone understand the business processes.""This application does a lot of things, as do competitor products, but the main reason to go with this product was the ability to create many automations, where we can improve our work and our process.""When validating the model, the ability to provide sub-models to developers, and generate a physical model from the logical, makes it easier to review a logical model with stakeholders.""We found a lot of duplication, a lot of non-conformity in the way our databases were designed. By identifying these situations, we're able to go back in and try to create a more standardized solution.""We have a database design group of about 15 people. The Repository enables multiple people to work on the same model at the same time. We have fully integrated models, so we have one model for the enterprise data warehouse, one model for MDM, with a lot of sub-models in these things. People work on different parts of the model at different times. So the repository enables us to share the models, and keep track of what everybody is working on.""Using this product has improved the way we maintain our models because they have a place where we can keep all of them, and they can be viewed using the web interface.""We have been able to quickly create models for our enterprise-wide databases, even when some of them are third-party databases."

"I have found the singular GUI feature very helpful. Fewer DBA resources can be allocated with Toad licenses.""The single-pane and single interface in the centralized system is the most valuable feature.""I like that it's stable.""Oracle Enterprise Manager helps to control servers.""The 13cR2 updates to the OEM family, strongly integrate Cloud (off-site, hybrid and on-premise) services providing a seamless way to see all of your resources regardless of where they are deployed.""It is a good tool for monitoring databases.""Oracle Enterprise Manager has eased the responsibilities among our DBAs. We can now assign individual tasks to separate DBAs.""The product gives us as much control as we can have by providing a complete picture of the whole set of Oracle products."

"It provides a history of the activities on our SQL servers.""The most valuable feature is drill-down monitoring, which shows us from one interface the transaction chain from the front end to back end.""Infrastructure Monitoring and End User Monitoring are the product’s most valuable features to me.""The ability to track performance of an application or application suite over time is extremely valuable to our business partners and for our application development team with near real time results.""At a glance I can easily see what is going on with all of my VMware environments, including top consumers of resources.""Capacity on database and file servers. I found the algorithms to forecast growth and concerns particularly intuitive.""With the APM you can replay the end user session and see issues quickly by viewing the session.""Having standard monitoring features and a central repository saves us a lot of time and reduces risk of incidents."

Cons
"when there are some links to the external databases, if this database is not structured it is not uploaded. It gives me errors and I cannot see the view that was created on this structure and I cannot change those views, even manually. It skips the views. I have to ignore those views. I cannot re-upload them because it gives me an error.""I would like to upload, a database with about 3,000 tables. It takes so much time and, finally, it freezes the whole solution so that I actually cannot work with that environment. For the data warehouse, it's fine because I have 20 or 30 tables. It works fine. But, when I reverse-engineer the database with 3,000 tables, it freezes and it's hard to upload and reverse-engineer such environments in ER/Studio.""The only thing I had an issue with was licensing, and the support was very good.""Whenever there is a new version, there are a lot of release notes on the technical side of it, but I would like to be told why are we doing the upgrade... What I would like to really see is how this benefits us from the business point of view. What are the real benefits that the user gets? I want some kind of way white paper. The release notes describe the technical enhancements but, from the layman's point of view, if someone asks me what are the business benefits of this upgrade, I don't have any documentation to explain it to the business.""The number of options can be overwhelming at times. That is not necessarily a bad thing but for a newbie, it can be daunting.""It isn't easy to compare the thousands of tables in the model against the database. The tool should improve the synchronization within the large organization""Tech support is a sticking point with me. I am really disappointed in the tech support. We pay for the Platinum level. It takes hours to get a response.""One limitation I have found in ER/Studio is that when you want to make some changes to the table definitions, you have to go item by item. You cannot do it globally. Another issue concerns defining the foreign keys between the different tables. It is a little more tedious in the ER/Studio than in ERrwin. With ERwin it is direct."

More IDERA ER/Studio Cons →

"The solution’s stability could be improved.""My opinion is that this solution needs to improve consolidation. That is what our business needs the most right now.""The tool is expensive.""The tool's pricing is costly.""Technical support could be more responsive.""The solution's agents work with Java, and the Java code sometimes consumes a lot of memory on the CPU.""The solution is not as simple as people say it is.""Improving the integration speed would be beneficial, as the current Java-based system can sometimes result in slow responses."

More Oracle Enterprise Manager Cons →

"The “cartridge” concept for every little thing is a bit of a bother to implement.""The version compatibility needs work.""Being able to incorporate other bespoke monitoring into Foglight would have made the tool even more useful.""We are running a Webmethods stack (Software AG) and Foglight is unable to instrument. We are in a POC with Dynatrace and it was able to instrument with little effort.""My only complaint from Foglight for monitoring is that you only get a plot for five minute average for metrics like CPU and Memory, on the application side I can see metrics more quickly at 15 seconds for metrics like active sessions, heap. I would like to see the same for CPU and memory.""I want to see mobile access application in the next release.""SQL agents often failed but again this may have been addressed in future versions.""There are some metrics I'd like to track that are difficult to find or implement into a tracking solution without a lot of manual work."

    Overview

IDERA ER/Studio is a powerful suite for business-driven data modeling that enables companies to create an enterprise architecture foundation for data governance. With round-trip support for multiple database platforms, data architects have the power to reverse-engineer, analyze, and optimize existing databases easily from diverse platforms. Data professionals can easily capture and share models, metadata, data sources, and glossaries across the organization for improved alignment between the organization and Information Technology. Organizational stakeholders can take part in the metadata definition workflow and access information on models and metadata at the right level for their needs.

Unlike its competition, it provides the broadest range of data platform support, industry-leading enterprise-level capabilities, visual data lineage and flow modeling, full dimensional modeling for data warehousing and business intelligence, and business data objects to bridge the gap between developers and data architects. It also provides a complete solution for enterprise architecture and data governance, extensive model change management, unique incorporation of true enterprise data dictionaries, unique linking of constructs across models, integrated visual data lineage import, and integrated data and business process modeling.

    Reviews from Real Users

Oracle Enterprise Manager stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its central management and monitoring and its reporting capabilities

Robin C., head of Oracle Exadata Centre of Excellence at Tata Consultancy Services, writes, "The database performance monitoring features are very useful and allow us to quickly zero in on DB-related issues. Exadata storage server and Infiniband switches can be viewed from the GUI in OEM which cannot be done in other tools. The ability to deploy metric extensions makes this tool extensible for our custom monitoring also."

PeerSpot users note the effectiveness of these features. A database manager at a tech services company notes, “The solution's most valuable aspect is the fact that it is embedded with the Oracle database and Oracle's engineering system, its extra data, and analytics.  They have plug-ins that are very helpful. Due to the infrastructure's size, the introduction they offer is very, very useful. It helps with an overall understanding of the product. They have a very nice graphical user interface. The monitoring is good. We can capture the SQL tune from us. With Oracle Enterprise Managers, we can see the rich performance tuning.”

Manage your application infrastructure by monitoring the IT components that affect application performance.
