Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Configuring the solution is very easy. It's quite a straightforward process, and it's not difficult at all.""The most valuable feature of the solution is reliability.""It helps keep our network connections in a healthy state.""The product’s scalability and performance are valuable.""The solution has high performance and we do not have to troubleshoot the network.""It is a stable and good product. It is also easy to install.""Cisco Catalyst Switches is very stable, configurable, and durable. It is also easy to manage.""One good feature is UPOE. Another is having a built-in controller, the customer doesn't have to ask for another controller. For example, you get a built-in controller with the C650. And two-port is one of the premium factors from Cisco."

"Enterasys Campus LAN Switches is a trustable and powerful solution. The solution has good web management features. You can do whatever you want, like a CLI. The solution is easy to diagnose and manage. I like the Linux-based operating system. If any service crashes, you need to restart the system.""Extreme Networks is the only one that has this kind of universal switch. It simplifies things greatly. Customers no longer have to worry about the price differences between traditional and fabric technology switches, which used to have their own pricing. This has made it easier for us as solution providers to tailor options for our customers with fewer but more suitable choices.""The performance is good."

"HPE ProCurve is used to connect servers and storage in the data center.""It is stable, and it fulfills our needs. We have all the functions we need, so we're totally satisfied.""The user interface is simple to use.""Its easy manageability is most valuable. It's easy to manage.""HPE ProCurve has plenty of features.""The LAN features give us exactly what we need.""The GUI makes it easy to configure, manage, and work with.""One of the biggest things in HPE ProCurve that I like, though not necessarily a feature, is the HPE warranty because it's probably better than any of the other vendors that we deal with, as it has a lifetime replacement. Feature-wise, the web interface of HPE ProCurve is typically pretty good and I like that as well."

Cons
"Cisco can definitely improve the training part. They can provide more training related to configuration.""It would be good if Cisco Catalyst Switches could align maintenance with one version.""Cisco switches are expensive.""I would like for Cisco to come up with an affordable dynamic VLAN solution.""The technical support, in some cases, should be faster and could improve.""These switches should have better compatibility with software-defined technology.""Pricing for this product is on the higher end, and is something that could be improved. Security could also be increased.""The technical response could be faster in the future."

"Security features do exist, and they're mostly common with other switches. What makes these switches unique is the ability to see application layers on the switch, but not directly through the switch. There are tools from Extreme Networks that allow visibility of such traffic, which other switches lack. Extreme CloudIQ analytics can analyze all the traffic on Extreme Switches up to layer seven, offering full visibility. However, this tool is necessary for such detailed analytics and might not be compatible with some third-party products.""The tool's price is high. We need a cost-effective service. It also needs to add wireless controller features like Huawei.""While the support is good, it could be better, and the price could be reduced."

More Enterasys Campus LAN Switches Cons →

"I don't have any recommendations for areas of improvement.""We do occasionally have issues with the solution and need to change out the switches sometimes. This can be due to the fan, but, in most cases, it's because the power supply was broken.""An area for improvement in HPE ProCurve is the web interface not being as robust because you still have to go to the COI to make modifications or look at the exact configuration.""The solution should offer different gigabit interfaces. Right now, they have ten gigabits. However, for our needs, we only need one gigabit. We don't need 24 or 48 ports. We only need eight to ten. HPE should introduce into their portfolio some smaller and more compact options.""A few areas included in the network performance managers can be integrated into the solution's dashboard since it is the only area with a few concerns.""I would like to see integration with HPE OneView.""If we're aiming for an improvement, focus on enhancing security features in HPE ProCurve, particularly in terms of filtering.""I would like to see some kind of packet tracer where people can study how the switch is operating."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price should go down instead of up. "
  • "It has a very high cost, but understandably, due to its very good quality."
  • "Cisco's prices are not cheap, but the stability is worth it."
  • "Pricing could be better."
  • "If you consider Cisco's price with the Dell, you will definitely lose with Cisco. But Cisco has a major area of equipment in general. Cisco has routers, firewalls, NAC, certain video conferencing, Apple phones, and different security solutions. But Dell doesn't have such areas, Dell only has switching architecture."
  • "Generally, Cisco Catalyst would be relatively expensive compared to the competition, it would be on the expensive side."
  • "Pricing is an issue I have been facing, in comparison with HPE or Juniper. The Nexus series is out of the question right now. Scalability is more an issue on the pricing side and less on the technology side."
  • "Catalyst is very expensive."

  • "This is an expensive switch."
  • "The price of this product is cheap."
  • "HPE ProCurve products are reasonably priced."
  • "The price could be more competitive."
  • "We are a public company, so we are obliged to take the best offer from the vendors. They gave us the best price for the needs we had. It was considerably less than Cisco. It had maybe 40% lower cost."
