Pros

More Actian Pervasive Data Integrator [EOL] Pros →

"I have found its most valuable features to be its package management capabilities and the flexibility it offers in designing workflows.""There are many good features in this solution including the data fields, database integration, support for SQL views, and the lookups for matching information.""The solution is stable.""The initial setup of this solution is very straightforward.""SSIS is an easy way to do data integration from various data sources. It doesn't matter whether it's a database, flat files, XML, or Web API. It can talk to the and join them all together.""In SSIS, the scope is not only to handle ETL challenges, but it will allow us to do so many other tasks, such as DBA activities, scripting, calling any .exe or scripts, etc.""The product's deployment phase is easy.""I have used most of the standard SQL features, but the ones that stand out are the Data Flows and Bulk Import."

"Support is absolutely excellent, efficient, and timely.""I found the initial setup very easy.""Their support staff are very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. I feel their support staff go above and beyond to assure their customers are satisfied.""The tool supports multiple target update methods.""Quickly develops a data warehouse for our organization with documentation and can track back/forward features.""RED has provided us the ability to integrate, stage, and transform data from diverse sources into an enterprise-grade data warehouse which meets the needs of my organization, but it also enables us to easily and quickly make ETL or DW changes.""The most valuable feature is the metadata generated code.""It has a built-in automatic scheduling environment."

Cons
"I am not sure if there are various connectors available in the recent version of Pervasive DI to support the wide range of sources available (e.g., big data, cloud, EME)."

More Actian Pervasive Data Integrator [EOL] Cons →

"Sometimes when we want to publish to other types of databases it's not easy to publish to those databases. For example, the Jet Database Engine. Before the SSIS supported Jet Database Engine but nowadays it doesn't support the Jet Database Engine. We connect to many databases such as Access database, SparkPros databases and the other types of databases using Jet Database Engines now and SSIS now doesn't seem to support it in our databases.""The solution should work on the GPU, graphical processing unit. There should also be piping integration available.""It should have other programming languages supported as well from a scripting perspective. Currently, only C# and VB.NET are supported, which limits it to .NET. It should have Java support as well.""SSIS is stable, but extensive ETL data processing can have some performance issues.""I would like to see more features in terms of the integration with Azure Data Factory.""Generic processes should be used instead of custom code for each table.""It's difficult to refactor SSIS. It gets cumbersome to reuse the solution.""SSIS should be made a little bit more intuitive and user-friendly because it needs an expert-level person to work on it."

More SSIS Cons →

"It could use a tool to diagnose what is missing from the environment for WhereScape to install successfully.""Project-based searching of data objects in the data warehouse browser needs to be improved.""They need a more robust support center. It has been a bit difficult to find solutions to problems that are out-of-the-box.""The ability to execute SSIS projects within WhereScape would be nice because we have a lot of packages that are too cumbersome to recreate.""Jobs cannot be deleted via the deployment package. When deploying from dev to QA or production, a job has to be retired. The job has to be manually removed from the target environment.""Technical support isn't the best.""Improve the object renaming ability (it works, but it could be more automated).""No support for change data capture or delta detection - that must be custom coded ."

Pricing and Cost Advice
Information Not Available
  • "This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
  • "My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft."
  • "This solution is included with the MSSQL server package."
  • "It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
  • "Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
  • "We have an enterprise license for this solution."
  • "It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
  • "All of my clients have this product included as part of their Microsoft license."
  • More SSIS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Factor in the price of specialized consulting who know this product. They're hard to find and expensive."
  • "ROI is at least 10 times."
  • "Speed to market of a warehouse solution at a relatively inexpensive price point."
  • "Our company purchased a corporate unlimited license."

Technology has made it easier for businesses to organize and manipulate data to get a clearer picture of what’s going on with their business. Notably, ETL tools have made managing huge amounts of data significantly easier and faster, boosting many organizations’ business intelligence operations There are many third-party vendors offering ETL solutions, but two of the most popular are PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). Each technology has its advantages but there are also similarities on how they carry out the extract-transform-load processes and only differ in terminologies. If you’re in the process of choosing ETL tools and PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS made it to your shortlist, here is a short comparative discussion detailing the differences between the two, as well as their benefits. Package Configuration Most enterprise data integration projects would require the capacity to develop a solution in one platform and test and deploy it in a separate environment without having to manually change the established workflow. In order to achieve this seamless movement between two environments, your ETL technology should allow the dynamic update of the project’s properties using the content or a parameter file or configuration. Both Informatica and SSIS support this functionality using different methodologies. In Informatica, every session can have more than one source and one or more destination connections.
