We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There were no concerns with the stability. This product is very good from a stability perspective."

More Actian Pervasive Data Integrator [EOL] Pros →

"The product seems stable enough.""The most valuable feature is its ability to extract metadata from various sources- be it an old SaaS application or the latest cloud application.""We can scan anything.""It can automatically connect or associate business terms with various options, providing flexibility beyond general capabilities.""The capability of the tool to scan and capture the metadata from a variety of sources is one of the capabilities that I find most useful. The central repository into which it is going to put that captured metadata is the best.""The most valuable feature of Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog is it provides clients with a full view of the enterprise data assets. For example, how many data assets they have and who owns them.""I like EDC's self-service capabilities. You can put the catalog on the intranet inside the organization, so users can search for something. People in the research world have specialized systems, and you might find data from various places that sound similar.""The solution scales well."

More Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog Pros →

"The data reader is the most valuable feature.""The most valuable thing is that it is easy to connect with Microsoft tools. In Europe, particularly in France, a lot of companies use Excel, SQL Server, and other Microsoft tools, and it is easier to connect SSIS with Microsoft tools than other products.""The reporting on the solution is perfect. I didn't expect to see reporting features, but they are great.""The scalability of SSIS is good.""It has the ability to be deployed into the cloud through Data Factory, and run completely as a software as a service in the cloud.""The most important features are it works well and provides self-service BI.""The most valuable features for our company are the flexibility and the quick turn around time in producing simple ETL solutions.""The setup was easy. All Microsoft products are easy to set up."

Cons
"I am not sure if there are various connectors available in the recent version of Pervasive DI to support the wide range of sources available (e.g., big data, cloud, EME)."

More Actian Pervasive Data Integrator [EOL] Cons →

"This solution is hard to set up and its interface is not user-friendly. It's also not as stable, and the technical support takes a lot of time to solve simple problems.""The model is somewhat flexible. There are certain aspects of the model that are not as flexible as we would like. It doesn't do certain things to a great level of depth. So, in situations where we want to drill in to do something specific, we have to essentially copy that data into our own structures in order to add that additional layer of flexibility.""The solution is quite expensive.""Currently, there are limitations in processing and the interface.""The UX and UI of the solution are areas with certain shortcomings where improvements can be made in the future.""Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog could improve by having a much better user interface. It is not user-friendly.""IEDC can improve the comparison of lineages.""The scalability is tough."

More Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog Cons →

"Microsoft's technical support has decreased in quality over the last few years, becoming less responsive and tending to pass problems on instead of solving them.""It should have other programming languages supported as well from a scripting perspective. Currently, only C# and VB.NET are supported, which limits it to .NET. It should have Java support as well.""It would be nice if you could run SSIS on other environments besides Windows.""I would like to see better integration with Power BI.""When I compare Talend and SSIS, Talend provides more features. With Talend, we can handle a large volume of data. Talend is usually used to treat a large volume of data, which makes it better than SSIS on the data side. Talend also has a very good Talend Management Console to schedule the jobs and do other things. It can also be easily connected to version control tools such as GitHub or SVN. The last time I used SSIS, it was connected through TSS for the Windows Console version. I am not sure it has been improved or not. If it is not improved, Microsoft should improve it. They should change the product to provide another console.""It needs more integration tools, so you can connect to different sources.""A change in the metadata source cripples the whole ETL process, requiring each module to be manually reopened.""The debugging could be improved because when it came to solving the errors that I've experienced in the past, I've had to look at the documentation for more information."

Pricing and Cost Advice
Information Not Available
  • "I have no idea what the price actually is. It is probably not going to be the cheapest, but it is a pretty stable and robust platform from the backend standpoint."
  • "I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
  • More Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
  • "My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft."
  • "This solution is included with the MSSQL server package."
  • "It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
  • "Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
  • "We have an enterprise license for this solution."
  • "It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
  • "All of my clients have this product included as part of their Microsoft license."

Technology has made it easier for businesses to organize and manipulate data to get a clearer picture of what’s going on with their business. Notably, ETL tools have made managing huge amounts of data significantly easier and faster, boosting many organizations’ business intelligence operations There are many third-party vendors offering ETL solutions, but two of the most popular are PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). Each technology has its advantages but there are also similarities on how they carry out the extract-transform-load processes and only differ in terminologies. If you’re in the process of choosing ETL tools and PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS made it to your shortlist, here is a short comparative discussion detailing the differences between the two, as well as their benefits. Package Configuration Most enterprise data integration projects would require the capacity to develop a solution in one platform and test and deploy it in a separate environment without having to manually change the established workflow. In order to achieve this seamless movement between two environments, your ETL technology should allow the dynamic update of the project’s properties using the content or a parameter file or configuration. Both Informatica and SSIS support this functionality using different methodologies. In Informatica, every session can have more than one source and one or more destination connections. There are… Read more →
