Customizable labels and the ability to modify cards streamline task management and save time
Pros and Cons
  • "Trello definitely saves time and makes things a lot easier, except when it's buggy."
  • "There can be bugs sometimes. When more than one person tries to edit the description at the same time, it can do some unexpected things."

What is our primary use case?

We use Trello for a number of different things. We use it in R&D, in product, and across the company for tracking ideas and monitoring tasks.

What is most valuable?

The ability to move cards between boards is really helpful, as well as the labels. The ability to tag different team members in both the description and the comments, and the due dates feature are handy. We are able to customize the labels, both the text and the color, so when looking at a board, we can easily filter or see cards related to specific tasks or team members. This functionality really streamlines using Trello. Trello definitely saves time and makes things a lot easier, except when it's buggy.

What needs improvement?

There can be bugs sometimes. When more than one person tries to edit the description at the same time, it can do some unexpected things. I would like to see that improved. Sometimes they add new features, which can be either welcome or odd. More control over email notifications would also be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trello for probably ten or eleven years now.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is fine for our organization.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used something very outdated in comparison to Trello. I don't remember what it was called, maybe something like Bug Tracker, but I'm really not sure.

How was the initial setup?

It was so long ago I don't remember, but I think it was fairly straightforward. I think we also migrated some tasks or tickets from a previous solution.

What was our ROI?

It saves us time. Sometimes we can have a back-and-forth conversation in the comments, which helps minimize some meetings.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend testing it out. Trello has a free version, which is a really easy way to get started. It's simple to use, easy to add team members or even external consultants. I would rate Trello an eight overall. Trello is good for what we need. It is not too complex, but it has a decent amount of features that we take advantage of. Every solution has room for improvement, which is why I didn't give it a nine or ten.

Consistent capital project workflows have improved collaboration and real-time data use
Pros and Cons
  • "Using Trimble Project Management has made our project efficiency more efficient than not having it."
  • "The reporting does exist, but it is not great."

What is our primary use case?

Our general use case involves a 350 million capital budget at the university, so we use Trimble Project Management for all aspects of the design phase and construction phase, and for project management.

What is most valuable?

In my opinion, the best features of Trimble Project Management are that it is quite good as a database and process, and it has been working well for us. The big challenge is on the reporting side; it does not provide great dashboards and that type of functionality.

Using Trimble Project Management has made our project efficiency more efficient than not having it. It is a project management information system, so it is very important to have for our organization.

Trimble Project Management's real-time data integration has been a valuable feature; we have a data warehouse that it sends information to, and we use Tableau to create dashboards.

What needs improvement?

The reporting does exist, but it is not great. The reporting is not optimal, but otherwise, Trimble Project Management is serving us well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Trimble Project Management for about 10 to 12 years.

How are customer service and support?

We deal with their customer service, and they are good to work with. On a scale of one to 10, I would rate them an 8 for their technical service.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Comparing Trimble Project Management to Hive or other project management tools, I would say that Hive is more of a resource management tool, whereas e-Builder is more just process management, so they could be compatible with each other. That is what we are exploring.

What other advice do I have?

I was unable to download the Hive to e-Builder Trimble comparison, so I do not know; it was difficult to obtain. If you could send it to me, then I could provide my takeaway on it.

We are considering Hive. We use Trimble Project Management.

The role of the document management feature for our workflow is quite complex; that would be a very long discussion. It takes care of project approvals and everything.

We do not use the analytics feature.

I would assess Trimble Project Management's ability to enhance team collaboration as absolutely positive.

The benefits of using Trimble Project Management include providing us with a consistent process and documentation.

I think the pricing of Trimble Project Management is reasonable for us, given the size of our institution. I would rate this review an 8 overall.
